BOOK REVIEW - MAGIC GIFTS by ILONA ANDREWS - KATE DANIELS # 5.4 - ACE BOOKS - URBAN FANTASY - NOVELLA

By: Ilona Andrews
Published By: ACE Books
Released : Available Now
Details: From the library, Back of Gunmetal Magic # 5.5, 107 pages

RATING: 4 VIKING STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

This novella takes place at the same time as Andrea’s book, right after MAGIC SLAYS, and the two stories intersect.

A dinner date after a hard day at work sounds heavenly. Of course, when that date is between the Beast Lord and Kate Daniels, things don’t go as planned. Before you know it, undead are running amok, heads are being chopped off, lawyers are deployed and used with extereme prejudice, and drunk vikings are calling people out.

Read at your own risk.

MAGIC GIFTS appears as a bonus in the back of GUNMETAL MAGIC, Andrea’s book

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

I did laugh out loud at the way the Ilona Andrews writing team started this novella off, with tentacles from some squiddy creature.

Why. Not.

Lots of things are happening in this novella. The Guild is squabbling over who should be in charge. A deadly necklace is slowly going to kill a little seven year old.

What type of mother does what she did? I am still a bit stunned she did that.

She needed a stinky dead fish slap from me!

The Vikings, The Four Horsemen and ‘HE’ make for some great adventures for Curran and Kate.

Yes. Curran is getting a fair bit of airtime in this novella.

The usual blink and you will miss the smexi moment.

“Is that your gun or are you happy to see me?”

“Mhm, a challenge.” He nipped the skin on the back of my neck, sending electric aftershocks down through me. Some men got excited by white lace and a translucent negligee. My love muffin got excited by a woman dressed to murder. There was probably something deeply twisted about that. Lucky for me, negligees were never my thing.

I love those words of endearment Curran and Kate say to each other. I’m not sure if I said that sarcastically or not?

He kissed me again. “You’re finally getting the hang of this whole badass thing.”

“I was always badass.”

“No, you thought you were badass and talked a lot of crap.” He wrapped his arms around me.

Aha. “Let me go.”

“You have time.” He kissed my neck again. Every nerve in my body came to attention.

“No, I don’t. I have people waiting.” I pulled free from him and kissed him back. He pulled me close, locking me within his arms. Mhm, Curran. I really didn’t want to leave.

“Come on.”

“No. Have to go.”

“It won’t take long.”

* sigh * It never does.

The thing with this Urban Fantasy series is Ilona Andrews just don’t want to write the smexi...well...smexi. They like to skirt around it. I expect it now. I just laugh and maybe roll my eyes when I get to these little tete a tete’s.

HA! Again, not sure if I was saying that sarcastically. I think I may stomp my foot and pout until we get a great scene with these two.

Curran is the BEAST LORD. Apparently it is all very private behind the smexi doors.

A rather funny scene with Ghastek and Johan.

"They need a lesson in hospitality," Ghastek said.
"I'll show you hospitality," Johan sucked in some air.
"Don't do it," Ghastek warned.
Johan hacked. The gob of spit landed on the vamp's forehead.
"Suck on that!" Johan pivoted to Derek. "You're next!"

This was a great little teaser for Gunmetal Magic.

Raphael!! What are you doing? Andrea was only trying to be difficult. You wouldn’t have it any other way.

Now, I must crack open Gunmetal Magic , ASAP. Also I am four days overdue at the library. :p

An entertaining read, with much ado about something, going on.
