BOOK REVIEW - SIRENSONG by JENNA BLACK - FAERIEWALKER # 3 - PAN MACMILLAN - ST MARTIN'S GRIFFIN

By: Jenna Black
Published By: Pan Macmillan, St Martin's Griffin
Released : Available Now
Details: Paperback from library, 312 Pages

RATING: 3.75 KEANE, ETHAN, ERLKING STARS!!

Blurb: Goodreads

When Dana is invited to Faerie to be officially presented at the Seelie Court, it’s no easy decision. After all, everyone knows Titania, the Seelie Queen, wants her dead. But Titania claims not to be the one behind the death threats; and her son, Prince Henry, makes the decision a whole lot easier when he suggests Dana might be arrested for (supposedly) conspiring with her aunt Grace to usurp the Seelie throne. So she and her father better do as they're told . .

The journey through Faerie is long—and treacherous. Dana thought it would be a good idea to have friends along, but her sort-of-boyfriend, Ethan, and her bodyguard’s son, Keane, just can’t seem to get along, and Kimber’s crush on Keane isn’t making things any easier. When a violent attack separates Dana from their caravan, the sexy Erlking saves her just in the nick of time . . . and makes it clear that he hasn’t given up on making her his own.

Arriving at Titania’s beautiful palace should be a relief. But Dana is soon implicated in an assassination attempt against Titania’s granddaughter, and is suddenly a fugitive, forced to leave her father behind as she and her friends flee for their lives. Will she be able to prove her innocence before the forces of the Seelie Court—or, worse, the Erlking—catch up with her? And will she save her father before he pays the ultimate price in her stead?

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle :

For me personally, I feel like I have gone on a bit of a slippery dip ride like you get at the Carnivals, those badass long steep slides with the big bumps.

For me and my opinion only, Glimmerglass was a good book 1 but a bit wobbly. Shadowspell really was AWESOME and exciting and raised the YA bar in parts * waggles eyebrows * , I was left with a group of boys that were humma, humma. I was intrigued by the Erlking , Keane was the fey with the goth boy look and smartass attitude with Dana. Ethan I liked, but Keane threw off better vibes. Finn his father, ( yes I shall include Mr Men In Black Sunglasses) was gorgeous and cool in his dad kind of way .

Sirensong left me a bit on the down bump , rather than the ‘weeeeee’ bump where I am lifted a bit off the slide.

I enjoyed Sirensong, but I found the villain to be rather obvious as, well, the villain was. Sure there was a great twist thrown in, which I loved, at the detriment to this other poor character.

I loved we got to go to Faerie and visually that was nice to see in my head as I was reading. I thought there were a bit of shenanigans going on and the pace wasn’t there. Not after reading Shadowspell and seeing how Jenna handled that book.

I really loved the Green Lady, I thought she was a wonderful character. Showing us a little more of Connor was great. Getting the vibe that The Erlking has got some feelings , but we still aren’t quite sure whether to relax around him or fear him.

I missed Finn as he is a smexi dad, and Kimber is always great value, a real friend for Dana. The bickering between Ethan and Keane seemed kind of pointless.

I felt like Jenna had to make some decisions boys wise, in this book so the Erlking got a bit of a dressing down ( compared to in Shadowspell) , Ethan’s character didn’t really make me connect with him. I was connecting with Keane in Shadowspell , but then he didn’t really have a great part in this book. He was more a bickering verbal sparring partner for Ethan. I felt like the lads in this book all wobbled about a bit.

Dana certainly took charge more and had a stronger character role, which was nice to see. I liked seeing more of Seamus’ character. He didn’t feel as 1D as he felt in the other books. Dana connects better with him.

I am not sure why mum still has to be such a drunk? What point to this storyline is having mum continuing to be on the bottle? Her character really isn’t doing much. I want to put her in rehab, the poor love. I’ll pick up Girls Night Out # 3.5 Novella and check it out.

I am looking forward to reading more of this series. As an overall I really like the characters and the world Jenna has made for the reader over the last few books. I can see some different ways Jenna can now be taking the story now she has sorted out all these boys and where they are now slotted in my mind.

RATING: 5 SMEXI ARAWN STARS!!!!!! ( ERLKING )

Book Blurb : Taken From Goodreads

On top of spending most of her time in a bunkerlike safe house and having her dates hijacked by a formidable Fae bodyguard, Faeriewalker Dana Hathaway is in for some more bad news: the Erlking and his pack of murderous minions known as the Wild Hunt have descended upon Avalon. With his homicidal appetite and immortal powers, the Erlking has long been the nightmare of the Fae realm. A fragile treaty with the Faerie Queen, sealed with a mysterious spell, is the one thing that keeps him from hunting unchecked in Avalon, the only place on Earth where humans and Fae live together. Which means Dana’s in trouble, since it’s common knowledge that the Faerie Queen wants her – and her rare Faeriewalker powers – dead. The smoldering, sexy Erlking’s got his sights set on Dana, but does he only seek to kill her, or does he have something much darker in mind?

BOOK REVIEW:

Jenna Black has certainly turned up the smexi in 'Shadowspell', at one stage I thought we may have crossed over the border from YA land into uber smexi land, but no complaints from me, just saying it did get a tad OMG at one stage, or two...lol!!!

Jenna has got me bouncing up and down for book # 3 to hit the shelves in July 2011 titled  'Sirensong'. I enjoyed , 'Glimmerglass', but it was written for a younger audience, but 'Shadowspell' I think kept me entertained quite nicely and I would think it's aimed at the older end of YA. New characters were introduced and I loved Arawn, the Erlking and look forward to reading more about him. I was looking forward to smexi Keane , after reading him in 'Glimmerglass' as I thought he gave that book a little lift, but along comes Arawn and he is one bad boy, but one smexi, get what he wants guy. Kinda helps that he wears black leather and depending on the occassion rides a motorcycle.

Keane is still a fave of mine and things are getting a bit confusing for me. Do I wear Keane's T-shirt or Arawn's?

Shadowspell has lots of smexi guys, Finn is still on guard, Keane is training Dana in the ways of staving off an attacker, but does he want more? Dana is causing all sorts of headaches for Finn and her father as you can't cage this bird and expect her not to take flight.

With the Erlking now thrown into the mix, this story has gotten real interesting and might I add heated up a notch or two. Ethan is still gorgeous and smexi , but he has his own problems. Dana has to think seriously about all these guys in her life as some are far more dangerous than others.

The Erlking has me intrigued. His emotions sometimes show through going against what he represents or is that again a ploy. Dana is like a bug caught in a spiders web and she is going to have to figure out how to not get eaten.

Kimber is a great friend and always there for Dana. I'm busting to give away storyline but I will not as I read this in one sitting as I just loved the fast pace and rather extra smexi YA read.

Can't wait to read , 'Sirensong', to see how Dana handles the conundrum she has herself in...* wiggles eyebrows*.
Read away, I'm sure you will enjoy:D

P.s. I love the cover, can't wait to see, 'Sirensong' book cover.

RATING: 4 STARS!!!

Dana Hathaway doesn’t know it yet, but she’s in big trouble. But from the moment Dana sets foot in Avalon, everything goes wrong, for it turns out she isn't just an ordinary teenage girl—she's a Faeriewalker, a rare individual who can travel between both worlds, and who can bring magic into the human world and technology into Faerie.

Soon, she finds herself tangled up in a cutthroat game of Fae politics. Someone's trying to kill her, and everyone wants something from her, even her newfound friends and family. Suddenly, life with her alcoholic mom doesn't sound half bad, and Dana would do anything to escape Avalon and get back home. Too bad both her friends and her enemies alike are determined not to let her go . . .

BOOK REVIEW

Dana's mum is a hopeless drunk. Life is not going well for 16 year old Dana on the home front or any front for that matter. Dana decides to take flight literally go meet the father she has never known who lives in Avalon a city outside of London where Faerie and mortals co-exist. After finding her own way to Avalon she is intercepted by a customs official and then her simple plan of landing on her father's doorstep begins to unravel.

Dana is loosely imprisoned after being told her father was in jail. Then she is 'rescued' by the handsome Ethan and his sister Kimber , members of the Student Underground , to then be witness to an attack by the 'Spriggans'. Ethan has a way with women and magical powers to boot. Ethan gets Dana to do a test, which proves she is a Faeriewalker. She is a rarity, a literal half blood who can travel to both realms,  Faerie and mortal. She is the only living one. Dana has no idea how important/valuable she is. Finally Dana is reunited with her Faerie father and the process of father , daughter begins . The Cameo Dana wears is a gift from her father ,  a symbol of the Seelie court , but is it more?
Politics in the Seelie and Unseelie courts ensues and Dana learns she can trust no one.
I love the introduction of 'Secret Service Man'..aka Finn. he is gorgeously written. Very MIB ( Men In Black). A surprise for the reader appears in the form of Keane. Gothic , gorgeous Keane. Oh dear I am now lost between Keane and Ethan. Which one is my Team captain.

Glimmerglass has manipulation, betrayal, danger, smexi tension and discovery within its pages. Does Dana make it to the Faerie realm? Will the secret of the Cameo be revealed before book 2 'Shadowspell', well you will have to read and find out.

I have predicted we will find out alot more about Keane in Shadowspell....well we had better, he sounds rather nice. I think the story of Dana the  Faeriewalker, has only just begun.  I did laugh at the 'dirty books' that Dana packed in her bag to read. Hmmmm...'dirty books'..lol!!!

FAVE QUOTES:

"Look at her face , you wanker!"Kimber said, her voice sharp as needles. "She's about to faint."

Geez, what an asshole. As far as I was concerned, bad boys should be seen , not heard.

"So are we going to have a lesson?" Keane asked, "or are we going to shoot the shit?"

"Now why didn't you go for my balls when I slung you over my shoulder? I let you hang low enough to have a shot."

"He was an asshole, but he was one hell of a sexy asshole, and I couldn't help being aware of it when his hands were on me."
