It was a rough start to the school year for Shayna and her friends, Jodi and Steven, but thankfully summer break is near. Trying to sort out her feelings for the new guy in town, Shayna agrees to let Jensen join her on a group date with her friends. While out they end up at a local coffee house where their classmate, social outcast Jeremy McCormick, is humiliated by his baseball star brother.

When Jeremy runs away from the jeering crowd, Shayna and Jodi hear the unmistakable sound of a thousand wings chasing after him, but no one else seems to hear them. These are not like any air elementals that Shayna or Jodi have ever encountered before and they fear Jeremy has gotten himself tangled up in something too dangerous for him to handle. But when Shayna tries to help Jeremy control his magical abilities she realizes it might be the biggest mistake of her life.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle :

Evil Faeries are the creatures causing major disruption in this instalment of the Elemental series, nothing like an evil fairie to try to contend with. This of course, is easier said than done, as our crew of three elementals, plus Jensen, who pops up every now and then to lend a hand, find out.

Air’s story centres around Jeremy a classmate of Shay’s. He has always been this odd guy at school , being picked on, especially by his brother Jimmy. Nice one Jimmy ( said sarcastically), you think you could rely on your own family to accept you and stick up for you.

Jimmy does the unforgiveable while Jeremy has stood up at open mic night to read some rather bad poetry, humiliated , Jeremy works some weird mojo , and there we have the direction this story takes.

Shay , Jodi and the ever loveable Steven try to track down Jeremy and find out what is going on with all these faerie type creatures.

But, all may not be what it seems.

Shauna has entertained me with some colour characters in this instalment, Hobya, Iris of Shattered Light and Tegan.

I loved having Tegan the wee little Earth faerie about. He was a great addition and I hope he sticks around.

Jensen and Shay have a sometimes physical relationship and a sometimes, not really relationship. I would have liked to have made more ground in this book with them. Jensen was more a sub character ,as Shay, Jodi and Steven are this tight crew who don’t leave much room or time for others in their life. Shay is always finding somebody that needs help and she can gungho it with her other elementals, leaving not a lot of space for Jensen.

I liked meeting Anthony , Steven’s current squeeze. If Steven wasn’t gay , he would be a gorgeous boyfriend for Shay. He is very caring and protective when Shay permits him to be, even when she doesn’t. There is just something very Team Steven about him, even though he bats for the other team.

Jeremy’s character is really taking the reader on a chase with all the things he is getting up to. The Bookstore and Police Station scenes were rather intense and a scene with Jimmy....oh dear!

I thought this book would be from Jodi’s pov as it is titled Air, but it was Shay running the show and trying to keep herself and her friends safe and others out of harms way.

Shauna brought some new creatures to my attention as I hadn’t heard of them which I thought was great.

I enjoyed this instalment, I would have liked more Jensen and relationship development with Shay. Her character was very independent , not taking a lot of time to play with her feelings with Jensen. Bad boy Jeremy stole the show with the at times violent behaviour he got up to.

BOOK REVIEW - EARTH by SHAUNA GRANGER - ELEMENTAL # 1

By: Shauna Granger
Published By : Self Pub
Released : Available Now
Details : Digital , 230 Pages

RATING: 4 JENSEN STARS!

Book Blurb : Goodreads

Shayna and her two best friends have the abilities to manipulate and control the four elements, earth, air, water and fire. While learning to hone their growing powers, they discover a new and malicious presence in their sleepy beach town. Someone is performing blood magic and threatens to expose their small magical community. So far only small animals have been slaughtered, but then the nightmares start.

Shayna suffers nightmares of being chased and sacrificed only to wake up bloodied and bruised. She thinks her magical blood is the ultimate target for the final blood rite. When an innocent girl, Tracy, is kidnapped Shayna knows it's only a ploy to draw her out; she can't let someone die because of her.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle :

Shayna aka Shay, Jodi and Steven are Elemental’s. They have nicknames for each other. Terra = Shay as she is an Earth Mother. Fae = Jodi as she is an Air Elemental. Drake = Steven , who is Fire. There is a water Elemental, but we don’t meet this character.

Steven is fun, witty and oh so snappy with the makeup touch up, when a girl needs a little touch up in her day. Jodi isn’t as fun as Steven and Shayna appears to be like their leader. They can speak to each other in their heads. Love a bit of Jedi mojo.

The story has this group of three wanting to cast a spell, call forward a Guardian Angel to find the one guy that will treat their friend Tracy right. Tracy is in an abusive relationship with Nick, who is more than a jerk. He leaves bruises and hurts Tracy, but she is too weak to give this fool the flick. I know what I would be doing. He would firstly get a ‘stinky dead fish slap ‘ from me then.....

The story detours a bit from their plan as a set of twins arrive at their school , Ian and Jensen. Ian lays Nick out on the pavement , giving him a taste of his medicine back. We all know medicine doesn’t taste nice.

Meanwhile, Shay is having nightmares and waking up injured from them. She is seeing Jensen in her dreams. Animals are being sacrificed in the woods, which is looking like the wrong kind of magic, by the wrong kind of person, so a little mystery takes off in that direction.

We begin to wonder if Ian and Jensen are involved. Is the gorgeous Jensen a baddie?  I picked up they weren’t identical twins? Maybe I got that bit upside down. Shay always seemed to be able to tell them apart easily enough.

Jensen and Ian are a bit mysterious and we see Jensen popping up where Shay is and letting her know he knows what she is. Poor Mike didn’t stand a chance. Awww, Mike was sweet.

The plot thickens and gets a bit darker with what the bad guy or guys are up to.

Shay takes it into her own hands to pull a Nancy Drew and get more information, she gets a bit too close to the source.

We have guardian angels, mystery, a Grimoire ( sounds like a creature but it is a Book of Shadows) , witches, hooded robed man, runes, some action scenes, dreams, sacrifices, light on the romance, and a cousin named........ and...... who knew Steven could look so smexi in his ...........

I enjoyed this first instalment in the Elemental series and look forward to reading Air and reading more about Team Jensen. But, is he a good boy or a bad boy?
