AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT - JAMIE MAGEE - INSIGHT SERIES & SEE SERIES

Today on Novels On The Run I have an Author Spotlight on Jamie Magee and her two series Insight and See.

Jamie Magee has always believed that each of us have a defining gift that sets us apart from the rest of the world, she has always envied those who have known from their first breath what their gift was. Not knowing hers, she began a career in the fast paced world of business. Raising a young family, and competing to rise higher in that field would drive some to the point of insanity, but she always found a moment of escape in a passing daydream. Her imagination would take her to places she’d never been, introduce her to people she’s never known. Insight, her debuting novel, is a result of that powerful imagination. Today, she is grateful that not knowing what defined her, led her on a path of discovery that would always be a part of her.

GOODREADS RATINGS ON INSIGHT SERIES

Before that fateful summer night, Willow had balanced the insight of emotion, and the vivid images. That night, the figure in her nightmare marked her wrist with a star, giving her father no choice but to tell Willow a family secret that would abruptly change life, as she knew it, forever. Before Willow had time to absorb the shock of her father's secret, her soul mate that had shared every stunning dream with her, found her, and darkness captured her closest friends. In order to save them, she must weave through broken myths and the undeniable power of the Zodiac. In the end, Willow discovers that at the moment of our birth we are all given a divine gift.

Not many Scorpio’s are known for their patience, and Willow Haywood is no different. Her only desire is to love Landen Chambers and redeem the lost souls of Esterious, but the path to that desire is long, dark and dangerous...
Before Willow’s life had a chance to balance the sudden revelations and grief she had to endure to get to Chara a disturbing discovery is made. A photo, one that shows Willow blissfully embracing the flawless image of Drake Blakeshire; giving her not only proof that she had lived before, but that she had loved him.
Running away from the memory of Drake’s hypnotizing touch, and the prophecy set before her seemed like the logical thing to do. That is, until a dark dream reignites her passion to save the hopeless dimension of Esterious. Willow struggles to find patience – to learn everything she needs to know before she faces Drake again, but her eagerness is dangerous and one step in the wrong direction takes everything and everyone away from her – the only way to survive this trial is for Willow to remember who she is and what she really wants out of this life. The question is….can she do that?

There is an ominous darkness, one that that is so dense and mind numbing that you can feel the chills race across your skin as the energy of the hatred behind it hovers near you. They thought that it was over…that he was dead….they never imagined that he was more powerful dead than he ever was alive.

A war is on the brink of erupting in the dark dimension of Esterious, the victory Willow had a few days ago was nothing less than vague memory. With each thought she has she fights the images of Drake’s dark eyes, his words… his promises. Doubt seeps into her soul as she stares forward and what could only be the hardest battle she has faced thus far.

Venus is meant to be the planet of love and peace….but when it falls into retrograde its influence changes. Matters of past relationships will surface; choices will be made with the mind and not the heart. Gateways to an evil that cannot be fathomed will open. Willow and Landen’s only defense is to hide their family away, and lock themselves in the palace that was once ruled by Donalt. The energy is heavy and dark within these walls…there is a presence that lingers and strikes at will. Cruel illusions are placed before Willow, but that is not even hardest part…what is hard is standing in room with Drake and Landen and listening to others tell you of lives that you cannot recall…for them to tell when and how you are going to die.

Every prediction and theory is about to be proven wrong…and the choice before Willow’s heart holds the lives of millions at stake. The question is will be she be able to see through the illusions before her and make a choice…she can live with?

Willow’s journey continues in VITAL, the fourth book in the INSIGHT series. Combating a crumbling family life, a circle of suddenly inconsiderate friends who seem determined to anger her, and a plethora of emotional trials too numerous to withstand, Willow feels overwhelmed. She has pushed herself beyond her own limits and in so doing has closed her mind. Dreams are no longer coming to her.

As she deals with this tumultuous environment, Willow also notices a change in her beloved. Once her source of support and compassion, Landen is suddenly filled with a newfound rage. Fierce and possessive, he forces Willow to wonder whether the bliss of their love has faded away, or if something darker is affecting Landen’s soul. Always watchful of Willow, Drake sees this change and the growing rift between the pair. Both he and Willow remember all too well what happened during Venus’s passing; will Drake take advantage of Landen’s compromised emotions?

Amidst all this turmoil, Willow finds herself obsessed with finding her: the elusive twin. The girl who looks exactly like Willow, and who must be Drake’s soul mate. Willow knows in her heart that to find this girl will remove a tremendous weight from her shoulders, clearing her mind and heart. But a mysterious warning about the chart of her past forces her to consider this course carefully.

And she must consider it soon. Even now, Mars approaches and Willow’s most important battle is at hand. Will she finally break beneath the torment the universe has set upon her, or will she stand beside her friends and loved ones as Mars unleashes its wrath?

SEE SERIES

See # 1
Witness # 2

Jamie is having a dual release January 2013 of Synergy (‘See’ 3) and Vindicate (‘Insight’ 5) the two series will collide at this point to solve a common conflict, then move on with their own stories.

I really loved See #1 and am looking forward to reading Witness. My review for SEE. Jamie wrote Draven , beautifully and the use of guitar throughout the story line was quite beautiful to read, and different.

I hope you take the time to read one of Jamie's series as she does write beautifully.

Fallen angel? Try risen demon.

Acadia Mills has been sent to perform very serious tasks. Part of the prophecy that predicts the end of the world, Acadia must figure out a way to make it less severe of an outcome. When the only person who can tell her how to do that is mysteriously murdered, Acadia must work with the compelling angel, Micah, whose team is also trying to figure it out.

Torn between following her guardian's orders and doing what is right, Acadia finds herself reliving her human life, where she makes a startling discovery. When everything falls to pieces, can Acadia save the one she loves to find the one she is destined for?

EXCERPT

I was a fallen angel. At least, that was the general term for it since I hadn’t actually fallen. Not really. The real Fallen had feathery wings and they were from Heaven. My wings weren’t feathery, but silky black spikes that hardly connected to one another and tried too hard to be feathers.

I reached down and gave the homeless person sitting on the sidewalk a coin. He cringed at my hand and then quickly snatched the coin, casting me a weary look. I tried to smile as warmly as possible. I was beginning to rise when a hand grabbed my arm and jerked me to my feet.

“You should not do that, Acadia,” my companion chided me. He turned to snarl at the homeless person, who shrank back and tucked his head in his knees and began shaking with fear. My companion dragged me away from the homeless guy. “Have you ever thought about the Fallen who do not want to be here?”

I ignored the last statement. How could they not want to be here? This place was wonderful compared to all the violence and torture from down there. Didn’t the other Fallen realize the entertainment in watching humans go about their lives and not have a clue there were supernaturals among them? I had forgotten what it was like to be mortal.

“Let me go, Samael,” I said right before I jerked my arm out of his grasp.

He turned and glared at me, but I wasn’t looking at him. My arm burned where his hand had been, and it wasn’t from heat—Samael wasn’t a pyro. No, this burn was due to my attraction to him. Whenever I looked at him after he touched me, I imagined us standing on a hill, houses surrounding us, while he approached me and wrapped me in an embrace, where his wings would wrap around me and end up fitting perfectly into the crooks of my own.

Because Samael was breathtaking. He stood in his six-foot five fallen angel glory, all his features looking to be sculpted from a statue. His black hair was tousled just perfectly without him even styling it. And the only—and I mean only—thing he wore was a pair of low-rising dark jeans, leaving a girl a full view of his chest, abs, and arms twenty-four seven.

“Why are you not looking at me, Acadia?” Samael asked, interrupting my thoughts. He reached to grab my chin.

I jumped out of his reach. “Because you are mad at me.”

“Surely that is not the only reason.”

I made the mistake of meeting his gaze. I was suddenly falling into the brilliant orange eyes all demons shared. There was a weird tingling in my mind, and I realized what he was doing. I forced my arms up and shoved him to break eye contact.

“Damn it, Acadia!” he thundered, the air carrying his voice, as it did when he was really pissed. “Why do you always do that?”

“My mind is no business of yours,” I spat. “You have no right—”

“No right?” he interrupted. “I was chosen to be your guardian. That gives me every right to look into your mind.”

“Only if something happened and I refused to tell you.”

He scowled. He stalked up to me so fast I backpedaled into a wall.

I refused to look at him so I ducked my head.

He grabbed my chin and jerked it up to look him in the eye. His face hovered inches above mine, his grip strong.

“Now,” Samael said, voice like honey, “tell me the problem, Acadia.”

I swallowed. My mind tingled again. “You need to wear a shirt,” my mouth said against my will.

He laughed and I wanted to wrap myself in its warmth. His eyes had softened to a yellow color. “If I wore a shirt, how would I fly, my dear?”

My heart started pounding. Surely he knew, with that endearment. “You could take it off.” I licked my lips, imagining that.

“Yes,” he said with a cold smile on his lips. “You would enjoy that, would you not?”

I vigorously nodded my head. I need to break this.

He dropped his face a couple inches, leaving it barely out of reach.

My heart started beating triple-time.

Samael smiled a cruel smile. “Enough of this,” he said, stepping back and looking somewhere else.

I suddenly felt extremely exposed. I wrapped my arms around myself and glanced at Samael with a wry look. He stood against the wall, resting one shoulder on it and leaving his wing lying against it at an odd angle. His back muscles flexed as he exhaled, his wings rising several inches.

I slowly walked up behind him. I opened my mouth to say something, anything to explain what had just happened, but Samael cut me off.

“We need to go.” He jumped and a sudden gust of wind carried him up and away from the buildings.

I adjusted my tank top so my wings could get full breadth and jumped, flapping furiously to catch up to him. “Can you not use that air to assist me as well?” I grumbled when I caught up, ten minutes later.

He glanced back at me. “Sure. If you could handle it.” He grinned wickedly.

I rolled my eyes. Of course the guy who could control air would tell me I wouldn’t be able to handle his help.

He laughed at my expression and sent wind racing toward me. I tried fighting it as best I could, but I still lost ground. “Okay,” I said. “Okay!” I glared at him. “I thought we had to be somewhere.”

He grinned. “We were not given a time to be there. I was getting impatient with you.” He shrugged. “I simply wanted something for us to do.”

“So where are we going?”

“You will see.”

Rather than be locked up, he opted to have the source of his powers removed, and to live out the rest of his days in his hometown watching the world go by without him.

Five years later, he had settled into his new life. Until one night, when he heard a kidnapped girl’s screams and came to her rescue. Reinvigorated by the experience, Virgil decides to become his city’s lone vigilante, even though he no longer has his power. GUEST POST

How To Write By The Seat Of Your Pants:
Outline or No?

The answer to this question really depends on a) what kind of writer you are, and b) what kind of project you’re working on.

First, you need to consider the type of writer you are. Some writers are rather meticulous. They need to feel as if they know exactly where a story is going, down to every last detail. They’ll want to know the precise order of scenes, what happens to each character in every moment long before they write it, every little nuance of what is to occur while the plot unfolds, etc. Other writers, on the other hand, like the idea of letting the story flow from within them once they know the basics of the plot. Perhaps they know the beginning, part of the middle, and the end. Just not every tiny bit of minutiae.

Second, you must think about the story you’re writing. Some stories require much more structure than others. For example, if you are writing a crime novel, where clues and hints are peppered throughout the story in nearly ever scene, leading to a big reveal, then you will probably want to outline as much of the story as possible. However, some stories – although, arguably, not as many – require that you write without a huge amount of direction. This can help you to write outside the box and let things flow naturally. For example, when I wrote my first novel, Patient Zero, from the point-of-view of a zombie virus, I didn’t plan out what “he” would say beforehand. I just let it flow. This may especially be true if, as in my case, the story is being told from a first person perspective. It may very well seem more realistic that way.

All that being said, there is no simple answer, nor is there a right or wrong answer. Personally, I’ve run the whole gamut of outlining. I’ll write one project where every storyline and character beat are sketched out in great detail, and then I’ll turn around and write a story with zero outlining. Just do what you feel is right for you and your story.

Today on Indie Author Spotlight we are spotlighting C.L. Causer's  book , 'Power Within'. I have a nice excerpt for you to read.

Blurb

After accidentally electrocuting her sister and blowing up her mother's kitchen, she suppresses her powers for ten years. Unknowing that there are more people like her out there. A lot more.

Having to learn about her powers and her past, she meets many new friends along the way. But you can't run forever. Someone close to her has betrayed her to the very people she is running from.

Excerpt
“Are they gone?” her mother asked, flicking her eyes up at Charlie.

“I wouldn’t worry about them getting up any time soon, Mrs. Gordon,” Jake answered as he went to help Valerie.

Daisy was trying her best to hold her quivering lip in check as she helped Steven untie her parents.

“Yeah. Charlie froze the blonde ones arm off and I knocked out the leader bloke with your pasta pot,” Steven added, slightly too enthusiastically.

“I hope you didn’t use the good pan - wait. What did Charlotte do?” asked her mother.

She stopped fussing with her husband and her gaze was now darting between Steven and Charlie. And so was their Dad’s. And Dave’s and Jane’s. Charlie tried to think of something to say, but then a choking sob escaped Daisy. She launched herself at her parents who fiercely held her, telling her that everything was going to be okay.

Charlie was not sure which one was worse. The expectant gaze from her family or hearing Daisy’s muffled sobs.

“It’s nothing,” she said, avoiding eye contact with everyone.

“They’re not going to do anything. That’s all that matters at the moment,” Jake said calmly, helping Valerie to her feet.

“Well,” Valerie sniffed angrily, as she tried to pat down her messy hair, “You always knew how to liven things up around here.”

Shaking Jake’s helping hand off, Valerie raised her head and started to walk past Charlie.

“Val, wait-,” Charlie said trying to stop her.

“No,” Valerie said angrily raising her hands out of Charlie’s reach and stepped away.

“As much as I just love your little visits, you bought this trouble on us,” Valerie hissed, pointing her finger at Charlie.

“Valerie,” their dad warned.

“What? I’m only saying what you’re all thinking,” she shouted. “We all heard him going on about you. That you’re just the same as them.”

“I am nothing like them,” Charlie snapped, feeling her face heat up.

“You’re exactly like them,” she screamed hysterically. “Freaks that break everything they touch. And Ryan-” she choked.

Covering her face with her hands, she gave herself a few moments to pull herself together. Their mother got up and touched her shoulder. Valerie stepped out of it and shook her head.

“They should have taken you away a long time ago,” Valeria said numbly to Charlie.

I hope you enjoyed that excerpt , the blurb has me intrigued to know more. Check C.L. Causer's page out with the link above.

In a sinister turn of events, Reid becomes the danger to Elyssa's life, and it’s Zeke who finds himself doing whatever he can to protect Elyssa...

Excerpt from Chapter Seven of Darkest Embrace

ZEKE

I gazed at Dmitri with wide eyes, feigning shock. “What did you do to her?” I asked him, my tone accusing.

He shook his head wildly, eyes darting back and forth between my accusing stare and Wyatt’s alarmed face. “I didn’t do anything,” Dmitri insisted.

“What didn’t you do?”

Shit, I thought, turning toward the sweet voice as she walked down the staircase, holding hands with my youngest brother. Her ebony hair was wet and she’d changed… Oh, let’s not imagine her in the shower.

Reid’s eyes found mine and he stared at me, eyes cold and hard. When they reached the bottom, Elyssa hovered on the edge of the group while Reid stepped into Annibel’s former place, clapping Wyatt on the shoulder as a greeting.

I watched the black-haired girl stand off to the side before moving to stand just behind Reid, clinging to his arm like a child.

“Dmitri scared off Annibel,” I murmured, shaking my head.

Reid watched me carefully, disentangling his arm from Elyssa’s hold so he could wind it around her shoulders instead.

I killed the hiss that built in my throat and chest, instead smiling at my brother. His eyes narrowed and I looked away.

“So why was I not aware of the family meeting?” Reid asked, staring at me with a hardened expression.

I gave a shrug and changed the subject.

“So you guys are looking rather chummy,” I said with a false grin. “Did you Mate her or something?” The question was laughed out, and I added to the effect with a wiggling of my eyebrows.

Elyssa’s face flushed, and I held my breath against the stronger scent of her blood. The rest of the group stiffened as well, and I wondered what would happen if they all attacked her.

“I’m not his Mate.” The voice was steadier than I expected it to be. She came out from behind Reid, then, choosing to stand just in front of him, in plain sight.

I met her eyes with a smirk. “Well, Reid, you should snatch her up before someone else does. I do grow tired of my slaves, you know,” The words were meant to be teasing, but Elyssa’s hardened gaze said that she didn’t pick up on that. She saw through the playful tone and right into the menace I meant for only Reid to see. “I may have to snatch her up for myself,” I said softly.

“I’d like to see you try. You’ll get the same as your brother,” Elyssa said, smirking at Dmitri.

Dmitri scowled and Olivia patted him on the cheek. I wondered what she had done to him, but brushed it off as I met Elyssa’s gaze once more.

“Oh, I like this one, Reid,” I said quietly, stepping into the middle of our circle to stand before them. Reid’s arm tightened around Elyssa, his face hardening. “I really enjoy breaking girls with such spirit, you know. They make the best slaves,” I finished with a whisper, as though I was sharing some great secret.

“You couldn’t break me if you tried your hardest!” Elyssa said angrily, stepping out of Reid’s hold.

Reid looked lost, his hand held up as though to snatch Elyssa back into his embrace, but something stopped him from grabbing her.

“Reid, I suggest you shut her up before she annoys me, and I have to steal her from you.” The threat was murmured, and I didn’t take my eyes from Elyssa’s green gaze. She held her chin up, meeting my eyes without backing down.

I want you, so much, I thought, and laughed inwardly. You belong in my shackles.

“I hate to break it to you, honey,” I told her with a smirk, placing my hand on her shoulder. She immediately shook it off and glared at me. “I would break you, without much effort at all. I have been torturing girls like you for nearly a hundred years,” I told her, my voice a hushed whisper as I leaned in to place my mouth near her ear. “I am quite good at it,” I finished.

All I needed was the slightest excuse to take her from Reid – the slightest push in the right direction, and she was mine.

Elyssa shoved me away and slapped me hard across the face. The heel of her hand hit hard on the corner of my mouth, and I tasted the blood as my lip split.

Perfect, I thought, bringing my hand up to my face. I gently raked my thumb across my lower lip and pulled it away to inspect it. As I had known already, blood was smeared across the pad of my thumb, and I angled it just enough for Reid to see.

Reid’s face changed, and there was hopelessness in the dark depths of his eyes that I had never seen before. His hand inched closer to Elyssa.

“Back off, you idiot! Obviously I’m not afraid of you, so go torment someone else!” Elyssa was getting rather annoying, and I contemplated taking her to my dungeons right then and there to end it. She flipped her hair over her shoulders and Reid grabbed onto her, tugging her harshly into his arms and out of my arm’s reach.

“Don’t worry, Reid,” I assured him, running my tongue over the small, pesky cut on my lip. “I won’t take her yet. But, rest assured, she is mine now.”

After reading this excerpt , what do you think?
I think Elyssa has gone and got herself in a bit of a pickle.
