RATING: 4 HUNTER & GAGE STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

Gage was the first guy I ever wanted. He was my first crush and my first fantasy, but he wasn't my first in any other way because he never saw me as anything more than a friend— at least not until the night that changed everything.

It was all Gage's fault. He insisted we drive through the storm and take the back roads. By the time the storm hit full force we had no chance. One night of snowbound sex changed our relationship forever. The problem was at the same time I caught another guy’s attention. This other guy happened to be the alpha of a pack of shifter wolves. I thought the wolves were the worst of my problems, but I was wrong. When things went from bad to worse I had to make a lifelong sacrifice to save Gage, but what price is too much to save the one you love?

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

I enjoyed this first installment in The Dire Wolves Chronicles. Alyssa built a great foundation for this series.

Mary Anne has been crushing on Gage, she has known him quite a few years as they came from the same town.

Gage has offered Mary Anne a ride home for Thanksgiving, in more than one way.

This is where nothing goes to plan for these two.

Enter Hunter. The all Alpha male who at first had me a little confused at his strong emotional pull towards Mary Anne. It was flat out possessive, confident and a little egotistic from the start.

He stepped toward me, backing me up to the bed until my only choice was to sit down on it. “I’m attracted to you, Mary Anne. My body aches to join with yours, but that doesn’t mean I’ll listen to that desire. I can control myself, and I’d never force myself on a woman. I have patience.” He leaned over me, his hands making imprints on the bed on either side of me. “But what I can’t control is my need to protect you. That need isn’t one that can be pushed away or denied. I cannot, and will not, allow something to happen to you.”

“You don’t even know me. Is this just because I’m a girl?”

“I would protect anyone worthy, but I’d go farther for you. You’re exactly what I’ve spent years waiting for.”

Now he was getting creepy again. “I take it you don’t get out much?”

I simply didn’t get it at first, but then we get a glimpse of something more.

I did enjoy watching Gage stand up for himself and try to protect Mary Anne, even if it was almost impossible to win against a man like Hunter.

We get introduced to Chet, Falcon and Marni.

More story unfolds making me curious to read more in this series.

I kind of like the villains. At first I was wondering who the true villains were, but then, more story unfolds and I am intrigued to know more.

A good start to this series, leaving me wanting to know more about Hunter and that ending begs me to read Dusk # 2.

Excerpt:

A single howl made me stop short. “The wolves!”
“Let’s hope they are farther away than they sound.” Gage tightened his hold on my hand and pulled me forward.
Three more howls filled the night. “They sound closer.”
We picked up the pace, and I chanced a glance behind me. That was a mistake. Several large grey wolves came into view. “Run!”
Gage didn’t need to be told twice. He broke into a run without letting go of my hand.
I ran as fast as possible over the frozen snow, but we didn’t get far before the wolves started circling around us. “Oh my god.” Could things get any worse?
“You have to make a run for it.” Gage’s voice quivered. “They’re going to kill us.”
“I’m not leaving you.” I tried to stay strong, and I kept my eyes locked on the wolves. There were five of them. All of them were massive, much larger than any wolf I’d seen before, but one of them was even bigger and had a large silver streak running down its back. That wolf seemed to be staring right at me.
“I’ll distract them. You run. I’ll catch up.”
I spotted an opening next to one of the smaller of the wolves and went for it. I didn’t make it far before one of the wolves stepped in front of me. I froze, paralyzed with fear, before my legs were knocked from under me. Suddenly, I was lying in the snow with a giant wolf hovering over me.
“We’re fucked.” Gage voiced exactly what I was thinking.
The silver streaked wolf stared down at me. It’s almost glowing eyes bored into mine. Was I really going to die as half-frozen food for a giant wild animal?
Then things got hazy and the air seemed to buzz. Moments later it wasn’t a wolf on top of me—it was a man. A completely naked man with a faint scar across his face.
“What the heck?” I tried to scurry back, but Hunter didn’t move. His very exposed parts nearly touched me. I didn’t want to notice his size, but I did. He was huge. He also didn’t look remotely concerned with the cold.

His lips brushed against my ear. “Were you going somewhere?”

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle :

I enjoyed this first instalment in The Crescent Chronicles series.

Allie and Jess, best friends, spend the summer working at The Crescent City Hotel in New Orleans. I always enjoy reading a story set against the backdrop of New Orleans. It is one of the places I would LOVE to visit.

Allie and Jess are eighteen year old girls taking a break before they start University. Allie’s dad just happens to own The Crescent and he puts the girls up in a lovely suite while he takes off on his business ventures.

Allie isn’t looking for love or a boyfriend and it would appear, Jess is up for anything.

Enter Levi ,aka Leviathan, Owen and Jared, the three mysterious boys that the bell hop Billy, and Alex the barman, warn them against.

We spend a fair bit of the story with the girls drinking and eating out with several boys. Jess hooks up with Jared and Levi tries the moves on Allie.

We learn some things about Levi, Owen and Jared but nothing more than the basics. Hailey is Jared’s sister and she is becoming a good friend to Allie.

I would have loved to have been fed more than the basics of what Levi and the boys were. I have not much to go on other than the physical.

When Allie stumbles across or gets showed things, it isn’t really for a purpose at this stage. In one scene with Natalie in a basement, Allie doesn’t receive answers. I would have liked more impact or more of a powerful response to the discoveries.

The book starts to move along in the last 80 or so pages, where things take a bit more of a leap. I would have liked more depth to some of the characters. I didn’t really connect with the potential of this story. I loved the whole idea of the thing that Levi and the boys were, but I don’t think it was used to its potential in this first instalment. I felt like I received more of a sightseeing tour of the many eating places and drinking of mystery drinks. More of Jess and her partying ways.

I thought the last 80 or so pages got the book cranked up and I felt Levi’s character more. I liked the villains.

Overall I liked this story, the cover is gorgeous and I loved reaching that part of the story and recognising the cover scene.

I am interested to know where Alyssa takes this series. I still rate this book well as the writing was good I just think maybe we could have edited out some of the story and injected it with more of Levi and his thing. Fastened up the pace.

Gorgeous cover.
I love the dark tone and the caught in a smexi pose, alley scene.

Book Blurb: Taken From Goodreads

As Charlotte steps through the gate, she has a strong feeling that nothing will ever be the same again.

Moving back to South Carolina after three years away, Charlotte knows she's going to have to face people from her past and adjust to a new high school, but she's completely unprepared for what else waits for her in Charleston.

Drawn through an old garden gate, Charlotte discovers a hidden world where she meets Calvin, a boy to whom she is inexplicably attracted. As Charlotte is pulled deeper into this hidden world, it's up to her older brother Kevin to rescue her. No matter how hard Kevin tries, the rescue depends upon Charlotte fighting her intense feelings for Calvin while mastering a set of abilities that she has only just discovered she possesses.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle :

How much of a surprise read was this little gem? Well, yes, very much so.

I can ‘feel’ how much potential already without having read Perilous Light # 2, this trilogy has.

Charlotte and Kevin have come to live with Monty their uncle in Charleston. Back to the family home they once lived in with their mother. Dad’s in Alaska doing his thing, and mum is dead.

This story is told from Charlotte and Kevin’s POV’s , which I kinda liked.

There is a Forbidden Gate down at the end of their garden and like all things forbidden, where there is a will there is a way. Basic rule of being a teenager.

Liam is Kevin’s buddy and the guy Charlotte was crushing on when she was thirteen.....eeeppp!!...she even kissed him, much to a stunned Liam’s ...well...stunned..ness.

Oh, boy, now Charlotte has come back to Charleston pushing 16yrs old and she will be going to the same school as Liam. Now this is where you think...Charlotte and Liam sitting in a tree K.I.S.S.I.N.G....well no!

Enter James.

James is this mysterious guy , always available, hanging about.....so food for thought.

The one thing I realised as I was reading was how Charlotte was surrounded by protective guys, Kevin ( bro) , Liam ( bro’s bff) , Monty ( uncle) and James ( mysterious dude?).

I love Liam he is fun, caring and witty. Kevin and Liam together are great characters.

Then, the story takes on a whole different direction, which I found gorgeous visually....but hang on a minute...I didn’t mention the other dude , Calvin. Now I am not one for insta love...but...this was more like one second, full blown , glow in the dark love.

So, here I am left thinking...awww...crap, is this going to be annoying? Well, no! Then there is this whole surprise package of a story that blossoms. We alternate from Kevin telling us his part in this story, back to Charlotte and this originally quiet, shy young girl ......fast forward many pages, to this young woman who is taking charge.

Charlotte is doing it her way....go sister!

Now I must admit I am kinda rooting for ‘the other guy’ , I currently have a problem with a certain somebody and I can’t help feeling judgemental about this somebody, even though it is all things true and the worlds are aligned and all that stuff. There is even ANOTHER somebody who has redeemed himself in my eyes who I like too.

But, ONE guy I would love Charlotte to be with.....I don't think there is much chance as the worlds are aligned and all that, love and bond stuff.

Cryptic , I know..hehe!!

Oh and Henry...he’s so sweet, I just want to hug him.

This book has a little ...oooo *gasp* ending that makes you want to pick up ‘Perilous Light’, ASAP!

Beckoning Light Excerpt

After clasping the necklace around my neck and throwing on a jacket, I ran downstairs and jogged down the garden path. I yanked back the vines and carefully slipped the key into the lock. Hoping it wouldn’t completely break, I tried to turn the key, but it wouldn’t budge. A wave of disappointment engulfed me. I jiggled the key gently and was finally able to turn it slightly. I put more pressure into it and was able to push the key all the way around. I hesitated a moment before trying the gate. I knew that what I was doing was clearly against the rules and, if I got caught, I would probably be in more trouble than ever, but really, if my family wanted me to stay out of it, they could at least tell me why. Besides, the key hadn’t been very hard to find. I pushed against the gate and felt it give. As I stepped through, I had a strong feeling that nothing would ever be the same again.

Hope you enjoyed all that:)
