NOVELLA REVIEW - TORMENTING LILA by SARAH ALDERSON

 TORMENTING LILA
(Lila #2.5)
by
SARAH ALDERSON

Format/Acquired:  Digital from Author

RATING: 5 SHORT AWESOME STARS!

When Lila and Alex sneak off for a romantic weekend away, Lila’s hoping she’ll finally have a chance to work on Alex’s resolve.

But just as things start heating up news reaches them of a serial killer at loose on the island and it isn’t long before their intimate weekend away is interrupted.

A mind reader, a projector, a protective older brother and a serial killer. One of them is going to find Lila first. She's hoping it's the serial killer.

MARISSA'S REVIEW

True to Sarah Alderson's writing skill, I became engrossed in Tormenting Lila from the start.

It was great to be back reading more Lila and Alex - and as the story progressed (though short) it certainly became evident that there was a whole lot more to come for these two.  So much so that when I got to the last page.....I kept flicking back and forth seeking more pages to read...."No - it can't end there"!  I had been sucked in and so engrossed, I had forgotten it was a novella!!

Looking for some R&R after an awesome bad guy take down (!), Alex and Lila head off to have some "alone" time on Nantucket. Well, alone as can be had when your super power buddies end up in the same place.  Oh, and Alex has some rules for what is allowed to happen during your alone time!!! Lila is not impressed and no amount of girl swagger can change his mind!

But with all things Lila, nothing is simple and danger seems to saunter up and slap her like a wet fish !  Seriously - can a girl get some down time please?!

The clever introduction of new characters has been used as a launch to Sarah's newest and stand-alone novel The Sound. With the introduction of Jessie into the storyline, fans of Lila Series should be jumping out of their skin for The Sound. My eyes will be devouring that one for sure......Jessie sounds like Alex's competition in the hottie department!!

In a nutshell people - if you love the Lila Series, Tormenting Lila (as with previous Lila Novella's) is a must read. If you haven't delved into Lila's world - go....go now and don't return till you have all available books/novella's......and have yourself a Lila fest!!

ENJOY!

BLOG TOUR - CHAT WITH LILA - TORMENTING LILA by SARAH ALDERSON

TORMENTING LILA
BLOG TOUR

- A CHAT WITH LILA -

Today I take part in the 4 stop blog tour for Sarah Alderson's latest inclusion in the Lila Series - Tormenting Lila.  I'll share with you a couple of questions from a chat I recently had with none other than Lila!  PLUS link you to the best ever giveaway for fans of the Lila Series and of course....Alex !

The Lila Series has been one that I have thoroughly enjoyed from the beginning and with each book and novella, fall in love with the characters further.

Tormenting Lila is the latest Novella in the Lila Series and is set a short while after Losing Lila ended.  The drama of the Unit's take down is now behind them and it's time for closure and moving forward.........

When Lila and Alex sneak off for a romantic weekend away, Lila's hoping she'll finally have a chance to work on Alex's resolve.
But just as things start heating up news reaches them of a serial killer at loose on the island and it isn't long before their intimate weekend away is interrupted.
A mind reader, a projector, a protective older brother and a serial killer. Which one is going to find Lila first?
---
Set 8 weeks after the end of Losing Lila, this story will delight fans of Hunting Lila while introducing them to the characters and stunning location from Sarah's next book The Sound (published August 1st, 2013).

Without further ado....my chat with Lila..... :)

So, Lila…..what happens now? Surely some serious downtime is needed – I mean, whoah, you’ve had THE most intense few months imaginable!!

Yes, it's been intense, in good ways and bad. The summer has been lots of fun though, getting to hang out with my mum and catch up on the last few years and being with Alex every day. Now I think we're going to start looking at places to live in San Francisco. At least, Jack is planning on living there and Alex is going to go to college there so I know that's where I'll be moving too. I have one year left of High School. I don't yet know what my mum and dad's plans are but there's no way I'm going back to London. I'm hoping life gets a little more 'normal' from now on.

You took down some seriously bad dudes from the Unit – single handedly!  It almost cost you your life.  Thanks to Jack and his amazing healing ability, we still have you here with us today.  What was it like? Dead one minute – alive the next!

I know! Don't tell Jack but I'm quite jealous of him for getting that ability. I don't remember much about it other than hearing Alex talking to me but sounding really far away. It was strange, like a part of me was desperate to stay, but another part of me was also happy to leave as though it wasn't the end. I'm not scared of dying anymore because I know there's something more. But I also know that I want to live every single day as though it's my last (and hopefully it won't be because Jack would be around to save me again if anything bad happened).

And just how much “I literally saved your life” is Jack bringing up when he wants to trump you?!
Oh it's all the time. He doesn't seem to think that me rescuing him from the base counts at all because he says he wound up rescuing me, which was so not the case. He's not mentioning quite so often now after I showed him how good my knife throwing and twirling skills were getting.

Now Suki and Nate are just two of the most awesome friends to acquire – but obviously with their talents….you’ve got to be careful around them, not so easy keeping secrets!  Have you had a chat with them about, you know…..staying out of all things “Alex and Lila” ?!

Of course! But do you think they listen? No. My only hope is that they both find their own boyfriends soon, to which end I've signed them up to match.com

And speaking of all things “Alex & Lila”!!  How’s Jack handling it?!

Well, if you've read Tormenting Lila you'll have an idea of how Jack is handling my relationship with Alex. Not. Very. Well. He seems to be slowly (and I mean SLOWLY) coming around to it but not without a lot of grumbling. Luckily he seems to be getting distracted with Amber. And there's also the fact that I think he is only just now realising that it isn't just a short-term relationship, that we're both in it for the long term. And I think he'd rather know Alex was going to be his brother-in-law one day, than a complete stranger.... there are benefits.

Thanks Lila for the quick chat.  I now have to let everyone know of THE most awesome giveaway that your creator Sarah Alderson is holding.  As it was set before you came along....well,......you might not like what the winner gets!!!!  And you need to get prepared for eaves dropping on Jack's interview tomorrow with Book Passion For Life - who knows what beans he might spill on you and Alex!

Enjoy!

BLOG TOUR #66 - SHADOWED by SARAH ALDERSON

Welcome to our stop of the SHADOWED blog tour for Sarah Alderson.  Today, Sarah is sharing with us her playlist for Shadowed and a few thoughts to go along with each.  Huge thank you to Sarah for sharing this with us :)

FROM SARAH ALDERSON........

The playlist I put together for this book still has the power to make me cry whenever I listen to it. It’s my all time favourite playlist.

As soon as I hear the opening bars to Angus and Julia Stone’s ‘All of Me’ my gut wrenches. It’s the most perfect song to start the book, which picks up about eight weeks after the end of Severed and it’s all from Evie’s point of view. She’s heartbroken and in pieces. This song and the ones that follow, like ‘Under your Spell’ by Desire, perfectly evoke what she is going through.

‘Will I make it through another day?... I survive on the memory of you.’

La Roux appeared on the Hunting Lila soundtrack and I had to include ‘In for the Kill’ for the first major fight scene between Evie, Risper and Ash and the new army of unhumans taking over LA. Evie is really working out some of her ‘issues’ in these fight scenes. Like the tagline of the book suggests, the way through might be closed but that doesn’t mean she’s got closure.

SPOILER! The fight ends with a really big twist and the return of a major character. “Wizbot” by Sea of Bees is the song that I felt summed up this particular character’s feelings about Evie and his state of mind at that point in time.

“Disappearing World” by Fair is all about the world as they know it disappearing which it is. Unhumans are running rampage throughout LA killing people and things are escalating out of control. The Rogue Hunters are struggling to control the deluge and mount any kind of defense against The Originals.

Lykke Li is an amazing vocalist. Her song “Tonight” is the song that plays in the attic above the bookstore after Evie flees the hospital. It’s my favourite scene in the whole entire book. I really lived that scene, every tiny emotion between all the characters, what every single word and movement meant to each of them. It was so hard because I felt so much for all of them and I really hurt for each of them too. That was a hard scene to write. But this song could be listened to from each of their perspectives.

Ellie Goulding’s “Guns & Horses” is the song I imagine playing at the end of the final fight scene, when Evie sees something she really doesn’t expect to see. And she wishes she could erase the pain she’s caused and take it all away but it’s too late.

“No Rest” by Dry the River, one of my favourite bands. This track for me sums up perfectly the penultimate chapter, especially the lyric ‘I loved you in the best way possible.’ But I’m not going to say who is thinking it about whom as it will give away what happens in the book!

If you want to listen to the songs as you read, then here’s the playlist on Spotify.

ENJOY!

BOOK REVIEW: SEVERED by SARAH ALDERSON

SEVERED
by
SARAH ALDERSON

 Publisher: Amazon (Kindle Edition)
Pages/Acquired:  Digital Book from Author for honest review
RATING

Description from SarahAlderson.com :
Fate brought them together. Now it’s threatening to tear them apart.
As the last in a long line of demon slayers, Evie’s destiny is to end the war that has raged for centuries between humans and demons.
Lucas, the half-Shadow Warrior half-human who was sent to kill her, has betrayed his own Brotherhood and his family to fight alongside her.
With an army of demons on their tail, Evie and Lucas are forced into an uneasy alliance with a group of rogue Hunters who offer protection and the promise of answers.
As the past is untangled and the dark history of the Hunters revealed, Evie discovers that severing the realms is going to require a lot more than just fighting. It’s going to require a sacrifice – one that only she can make.
…More than realms will be severed.

MARISSA'S REVIEW:
The sequel to Fated delivers a continuation of action, drama, suspense with some romance and an eye-popping twist thrown in for good measure!  PLUS an ending that shocked me I had to read it twice to make sure it was for real.  (Thanks Sarah....you floored me with that one!)

Evie (the last full blooded Hunter) and Lucas (half Shadow Warrior half Human) are on the run to save themselves and ultimately the world. After surviving the slaughter in Fated they must be cautious who they turn to for help - seems many want Evie out of the picture for good.

With the inclusion of Cyrus and his band of merry wayward hunters, things heat up, pick up and get a little berserk for Lucas and especially Evie.

Cyrus is a Hunter and his hunter mother is not to be trusted.  Cyrus develops a "thing" for Evie and is quite happy and helpful in leading Lucas away on a fruitless expedition - allowing him some alone time with Evie. But she's not stupid .....there's an extra bond between Evie and Lucas that neither can identify - and it's not just love.

With an army of unhumans about to enter their world and reak havoc on society - the prophecy of the White Light must be found so the opening to both realms can be closed for good - so just exactly what has to be sacrificed for this to happen?

If you haven't read Fated or Severed (books 1 & 2), you are in for a treat.  Not only is it a really enjoyable series....book 3 is out now ..... so what are you waiting for???

ENJOY!

RATING : 5 ALEX & JACK MUSCLY BOYS & FUNNY NATE STARS!!

Blurb : Goodreads

Alex and Lila are on the run, desperately trying to stay one step ahead of the Unit, which somehow is managing to track their every move. Whilst Alex is determined to keep Lila safe and her ability secret at any cost, Lila’s only thought is of finding a way back to California so that she can rescue her brother and mother from the military base where they’re being held.

Struggling to control both her growing power and her deepening feelings for Alex, Lila decides the time has finally come to stop running and start fighting. Together with Alex, Demos, and the people she’s come to think of as family, Lila plans not just to save her brother and mother, but to completely destroy the Unit and everything it stands for.

But the plan requires Lila to return alone to California, make friends with the enemy, and to risk losing everything - Alex, her family, and even her life.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle :

Alex was standing behind me, bare-chested and in jeans, his hands resting lightly on my shoulders.

Excuse me while I take a moment. This was the third sentence in the book.... giddy up!
I'm trying to show the vibe of the first chapter

The opening chapter was like something out of the Fast and Furious 5. Holy batman! We were off and running on rooftops over Mexico City in the sweltering heat. I was on those rooftops jumping and running too. Bullets whizzing past me ...errr.... Lila, and Alex as they try to escape from, The Unit.

See now, you have to work with me people, it's the rooftop action I am talking and the guns . What can I say, it seems funnier in the native tongue of Brazil. The Rock is like one of The Unit guys ......Paul Walker is like Alex and so forth....bahahaaaaa!!

This is supposed to be the 'feel' of the opening chapter.
All explosive and exciting.
Made me consider doing more cardio in my life!!
My imagination is doing overtime
Big Guns ..check!
Big Boys..check!
The Unit......kinda...check!

Out of one boiling kettle, into the hands and trust of Carlos and his drug den.

Lila and Alex are our main character’s busting their chops to get Jack and Melissa out of The Unit’s clutches with Demos and Key playing ...errr... key parts.

Nate and Suki are uber gorgeous doing their part. Nate is more, out- of-body. I would love a little novella with Suki and Nate’s little adventure to help their crew out. Suki did manage to stop off and get herself some new shoes.

Girlfriend knows how to work those heels.

Nate and Suki together, ogling Jack and Alex, are rather precious. They are very funny together, feeding off each other’s dialogue.

Lila is coming in to her own, really working her powers, starting to learn control. Plans are being formed for the next death defying scheme, attempting to infiltrate the marine base where Jack and Melissa are being held.

Who can they trust?

OMG the twists!

Loved them!

I personally would have liked more Alex and Lila action. Hunting Lila was very ‘hot’ and smexi..... and that was just the tension. In 'Losing Lila', Sarah teases us with nuddy scenes! Not that I am complaining.
Visually it did wonders in my head J

Happy Days J

I luuurrrvvved every time Alex knelt down in front of Lila to talk to her....* sigh* , the attention he gave her was dreamy.

Sarah has left me craving more, and I am uber nosey to find out about a couple of the characters and where Sarah will take us with them. It all just got switched up another notch.

Oh, Demos and Harvey you little devils.

I looovvved the spesh bonus Alex POV at the end of Losing Lila. Alex is just a hunk of lad...* sigh *.

From the opening action scene to the crazy ‘break out’ scene, Sarah will capture your attention, the pages will turn, you will be left gasping, and gripping your book. The twists will come, and Nate and Suki will have you belly laughing. Sarah will have you wanting more nuddy swimming, *wink* and for Lila to hurry up and have a birthday....hehe........ what?

FAVE QUOTES:

'.....What will we do for eye candy now? Were you thinking of Nate at all? Were you thinking of me?'

'I can't believe you elbowed me out of the way,' Nate yelled from the corner where he was sitting, watching himself on-screen.
'Nate, they wanted someone pretty in the shot. That's why they interviewed me.'
