BLOG TOUR 48 - #LOSING LILA 's Suki & Nate chat about boys, fashion & Demos' Crew!

Today Novels On The Run is stop number 8 on the
Losing Lila Blog UK & Australian Blog Tour

And with this special stop we have the pleasure of hosting a chat with none other than
Sassy mind reading fashionista SUKI
The Jack/Alex obsessed projector NATE
Welcome guys to Novels On The Run....

Suki and Nate, you’re both members of the group of Psys, led by Demos, who are being hunted by the Unit. Suki you’re a mind reader and Nate you can astrally project – what’s that like?

Nate: It’s crazy. Amazing. I can go anywhere in the world, access all areas. Last week I went to a Justin Bieber concert in Manila and got backstage. I was hiding out in his dressing room watching him warm up. He was singing ‘Boyfriend’ right to me. Suki was really jealous when I told her.

Suki: I’m so not jealous of you hanging out with Justin Bieber. He didn’t even know you were there. Now if you’d been hanging out with Katie Holmes and her divorce lawyers or with the hot one from Game of Thrones, then I might be jealous.

Nate: She’s so jealous. I spend a lot of time following Jack. Especially when he goes to the gym.

Suki: Yes, but I know what he’s fantasizing about. And, sorry to disappoint, but it’s not you. Being a mind reader has its upsides, even if a lot of the time I’m listening in on inanity.

Nate: It’s tiring. Being a psy is tiring.

Suki: Yes. It is.

I’m hearing a lot of talk about boys, what qualities does your ideal man have to have?

Suki: Killer hotness…
Nate: Wrapped up in a uniform.
Suki: Yes, we like concealed weapons.
Nate: I can think of two people whose concealed weapons we’d like to inspect.
Suki: What are you talking about Nate? You already inspected them. Nate likes to spy on certain members of the Unit. One day he’s going to get caught.

Both of you have crushes on Alex and Jack. If push came to shove, and you could only pick one, who would you choose: Jack or Alex?

Suki: We don’t like this game.
Nate: That’s like Sophie’s Choice. Evil person.
Suki: I would play that game ‘kiss, sex, marriage’ though. Come on, let’s play that instead! I would skip the kissing and just have sex with Jack and marry Alex.
Nate: All three with both of them please.
Suki: We’re really pro same sex marriage. Imagine walking Jack down the aisle. I could be your best man.

Who’s your favourite person, besides each other, in Demos’s crew?

Suki: We’re all one happy family. There are no favourites.
N: Though you’re Demos’s pet. You’re so the teacher’s pet.
S: Demos isn’t a teacher. And I can’t help it if I’m irresistible.
N: OK, so you’re the unelected mind control leader’s pet.

What was it like growing up with those superpowers of yours?

Nate: Well, it was my grandma who first figured out what I was. Because she’s one of us too. And my dad was not happy. He didn’t want me to be like him. But it’s genetic. They kept trying to wake me up in the morning and I’d be flopping all over the bed because I wasn’t in my body, I was up on the ceiling watching them. At first I thought I was dreaming because it only happened when I was sleeping – I guess I was about four. And then I started figuring out how to do it when I was awake. I’d sit in math class and then go flying off to the movies or to the beach. I failed a lot of classes in high school.

Suki: For me it was very different because no one in my family has any power. I grew up in Tokyo. But there are so many people all crowded together and there’s only so much I can take when it comes to voices in my head and Hello Kitty so I came to LA to study English and that’s where Demos found me.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Nate: I am reigning X-Box champion of the Batmobile. I like hanging out back stage at gigs too.

Suki: shopping. I always wanted to be a stylist. I’d make Rachel Zoe eat her wedge shoes. All the celebs would come to me. (sigh) but for now I just have to make do with dressing all of the people on the bus. Though Demos has put a limit on the amount of wardrobe space I can take over. (whisper) He has control issues.

After you’ve kicked the Unit’s butt, what plans do you have for the rest of your life?

S: Like I said, I’m going to be a stylist one day to the stars. Or maybe I will be a designer. And maybe Nate could be one of my assistants. And Jack and Alex could be my models.

Nate: Why can’t I be a model?

Suki: You’re too skinny. But you are cute. Maybe you could model footwear or something. Or hats. Yes you could model hats. I would create a brilliant hat range just for you to model.

Nate: I’m going to be too busy. I think I’ll be a spy. A private investigator. I could make loads of money and I’d never have to leave my front room. It would be sweet.

What’s the most naughty thing you’ve done with your super power?

Suki: Nate spies on Jack and Alex naked all the time.
Nate: Not all the time. Only at the gym. I can’t get in their apartments or onto the base cos of all the security. Suki is way worse than me. She maxes out her dad’s credit card all the time and when he cut her allowance to punish her this one time she went to a club in LA and listened in on (edit: name of star removed to protect from being sued) what they were thinking and then she sold their secrets to TMZ.

Thank you both so much for the chat...enjoyable to say the least!

Thanks also to Sarah Alderson for writing such an awesome series - we all look forward to more from you :)  Don't forget to follow Sarah on her blog, twitter or facebook pages!

BLOG TOUR #46 +Giveaway - JANE KINDRED'S THE HOUSE OF ARKHANGEL'SK VIRTUAL BOOK TOUR

Today is our lucky day! It's our stop on THE HOUSE OF ARKHANGEL'SK Virtual Book Tour for author Jane Kindred.  The first in the series The Fallen Queen is already available and the second The Midnight Court will be released at the end of August 2012.
Plus.... Jane and the lovely people at Entangled Publishing are giving away an ebook copy of either The Fallen Queen (book1) or The Midnight Court (book2).

Jane has kindly written a guest blog post on a topic of my choice......The Lengths I Go To Research My Book.

I'd like to thank Jane for taking the time in providing a fantastic and very interesting response!

Going to Extremes

How far would I go to do research for a book? When I first got the idea for these books, I never thought I’d go as far as I did; in this case, it was all the way to Russia.

My usual pattern for research is to read about topics that are relevant (or even just tangential) to events in the book or specific to the era in which it takes place. I’ll research anything from the practicalities of plumbing and lighting, to how to make gunpowder or open a portcullis—and to find out what the heck a portcullis is in the first place.

But with The House of Arkhangel’sk, I became a bit obsessed. When I decided to make the setting a celestial version of St. Petersburg, I wanted to learn more about Russia and I was also toying with the idea of easing back into school to get another degree, so I took a class on Russian culture at the local community college. Little did I know I would fall head over heels for all things Russian. Before I knew it, I was flying to St. Petersburg to live with a host family for a month for an immersive Russian language course.

I had already begun the first draft of Book One before I left for Russia, but being there in person made everything I’d read and imagined come alive for me. In all honesty, if it weren’t for American toilet paper, I’m not sure I would have come back. ;)

In addition to St. Petersburg, we took a trip north to the city of Veliky Novgorod, where I had the opportunity to visit the beautiful Yuriev Monastery and to see a real kremlin—or medieval Russian fortress—in person. Novgorod and the monastery both ended up in the first book, The Fallen Queen, as did the apartment where I stayed in the Lesnoy District of St. Petersburg, along with many of the places I visited, such as the Winter Palace, which echoes the home of my celestial imperial family, and the parks of Tsarskoe Selo, which feature prominently in The Midnight Court.

And I did manage to learn a bit of Russian, which I put to use here and there in the books, though I’m sure anyone who actually speaks the language would find it unintentionally hilarious.

Upon returning to the States, my obsessive research continued. I’ve pored over train schedules and subway maps to make sure I never have one of my characters take a trip that couldn’t physically be done, and for The Midnight Court, I’ve scoured the Web for images of the Solovetsky monastery, where several scenes in the book take place, to find just the right corner of the surrounding fortress to describe, or to see how the latches on the doors work.

My husband often reminded me with amusement while I was researching that no one was going to check, but it’s become part of my love affair with Russia, inextricably intertwined with my love of these characters. It’s a little bit like being there again to go over these mundane details—not to mention that it suits my OCD tendencies. And maybe someday I’ll be able to go back in person and research the next series. As long as I remember to bring my own toilet paper.

About The Midnight Court:
Against the pristine ice of Heaven, spilled blood and a demon’s fire will spark celestial war.

The exiled heir to the throne of Heaven, Grand Duchess Anazakia and her demon companions, Belphagor and Vasily, have made a comfortable home in the Russian city of Arkhangel’sk, but their domestic bliss is short lived. When their daughter Ola is taken as a pawn in Heaven’s demon revolution, the delicate fabric of their unorthodox family is torn apart—threatening to separate Belphagor and Vasily for good.

Anazakia is prepared to move Heaven and Earth to get her daughter back from Queen Aeval, risen in Elysium from the ashes of temporary defeat. But Aeval isn’t the only one seeking Ola’s strange power.

To conquer the forces amassing against them, Anazakia is prophesied to spill the blood of one close to her heart, while Vasily’s fire will prove more potent than anyone suspected. In the battle for supremacy over Heaven’s empire, loyalties will be tested and secrets will be revealed, but love will reign supernal.

About the author:
Jane Kindred began writing fantasy at age 12 in the wayback of a Plymouth Fury—which, as far as she recalls, never killed anyone…who didn’t have it coming. She spent her formative years ruining her eyes reading romance novels in the Tucson sun and watching Star Trek marathons in the dark. Although she was repeatedly urged to learn a marketable skill, she received a B.A. in Creative Writing anyway from the University of Arizona.

She now writes to the sound of San Francisco foghorns while two cats slowly but surely edge her off the side of the bed.

You can find Jane on Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, and on her website.

Thank you Jane and Dani at Entangled Publishing for including Novels On The Run on this blog tour.

Blurb:

Running through a strange forest with a bloodthirsty demon hot on her heels wasn’t Taylor’s idea of a rockin’ evening. Then again, neither was soaring backward through time and space. Time travel chafed and left a rank, nasty aftertaste. So, when she finds herself floundering amidst a sea of Commandment-loving holy rollers who fling accusations of witchcraft and bedevilment like hotcakes in a diner, finding her way home jumps to the top of her to do list. Too bad she can’t remember who she is or where she came from. And if that wasn’t bad enough, Taylor realizes she’s fallen for Gabriel, the mysterious Latin warlock who came to her rescue.

Battling an identity crisis and lost in a time that’s not her own, Taylor is determined to find her way back to twenty-first century Hanaford Park. But first, she and Gabriel must work together to uncover the dark scourge lurking in the shadows of Salem Village, and in doing so, save their lives, and the lives of countless innocents from a lethal date with the hangman’s noose.

Blog Tour #20 - JUS ACCARDO GUEST POST - UNTOUCHED BLOG TOUR & GIVEAWAY

Today I'd like to welcome to the blog, JUS ACCARDO - author of TOUCH (A Denazen Novel #1) and the new novella UNTOUCHED (A Denazen Novella #1.5).
Jus has written a great guest post for us and her awesome publisher, Entangle Publishing, has provided us with an ebook for a giveaway (see end of post).

GUEST POST written by JUS ACCARDO

SINGLE TO SEQUEL

When I sat down to write TOUCH, I had nothing. No plans. No plot. No expectations.
Zero.
Zip.
Zilch.
It was just a really cool idea I was going to run with.
Then it started to unfold and I was like, Huh. This could actually be something. Sassy chick. Sweet, yet dangerous guy. A whole boat load of secrets and some really twisted baddies. Fun, right?
And it was. But I’d never really thought about making it a series. It wasn’t until I got to the end that I realized there was so much more to Kale and Dez’s story. So much more than one lonely little book could possibly tell. And just like that, the Denazen Series was born.
I wrote TOUCH in under a month. Fast, right? I couldn’t help it. I was a woman possessed. When I sat down to start on UNTOUCHED, the first novella in the series… Well, let’s just say it wasn’t as easy.

The first book has done so much better than anything I could have ever imagined, and I’ll be totally honest. I started to panic. What if I couldn’t do it again? The novella was planned in Kale’s POV. What would people do to me if I screwed up Kale?
(please—no one answer that! I’m not sure I want to know :D )
Not to mention the idea of novellas in general scare me. Yes. You heard right. I have novellaphobia. Sounds sexy, right? It’s not! Add all that to a brand new empty page one and I was terrified. Seriously. I had nightmares.

UNTOUCHED had three different opening chapters. Well, that’s not true. It had three different opening 4-6 chapters. I’m not kidding. I had people talking at me from everywhere. Need to make sure this is epic. Even though this is a novella, it’s technically this is your sophomore book—don’t blow it! Each time someone said something, I’d go back, delete everything, and start from scratch.
I went back and forth like that for two weeks. And then I took a day off and reread TOUCH. When I sat down the next day, I had a hard time remembering what the issue was. Granted I ran into a snag here and there—Dez and Kale’s voice is so different and I found myself reverting to old Dez-habits in some places—but overall, it wasn’t as hard as I was making it. And so much fun!

So what have I learned from all this? A couple really cool things, actually. First of all—self doubt is a bitch. I knew what I was doing all along, but I let outside influences bog me down. My best advice for anyone writing their second book? Tune everything out. Focus on your characters and their world and do what you love to do. Have fun with it!

Second? Each and every book is going to be a wholly new (and exciting, and scary, and wonderful) experience. Like snowflakes, no two book journeys are the same. That dreaded empty page one is going to bring something new with each title.
And honestly, I really can’t wait to find out what…

Book Blurb
Untouched (A Denazen Novella 1.5)
Until he met Dez, Kale’s days were filled with violence and death. He was used as a weapon of destruction by the power hungry men of Denazen. He’s a Six. A person with an abnormal ability. Some people call them gifts, but not Kale. Kale’s touch means instant death.
But now there’s Dez, the girl he can touch, and they’re hunting down Sixes and warning them about Denazen. Kale is learning about the world outside captivity and trying to put his dark past behind him. But they underestimated how badly Denazen wanted him back.
When Dez sacrifices herself to save the new Six they’d rescued from falling into the corp’s hands, Kale is lost. Denazen has brought out its best to get the job done. Samsen, a nightmare from Kale’s past—the only person he’s ever truly feared—has come for them, and it soon becomes obvious he has his own twisted agenda.
Kale will need all his training to get Dez back and ensure they make it out, free—and alive. But will it be enough?

Add Untouched to your TBR pile on Goodreads

Touch, the first novel in the Denazen series, is set to re-release in mass market on June 12th (Complete with additional scenes from Kale’s POV!).

Toxic (Denazen 2) hits shelves on September 11th 2012. As a thank you to those who pre-order, Jus is giving away a book plate and magnet of choice

BLOG TOUR #15 - EMBRACE by CHERIE COLYER - BOOK REVIEW

EMBRACE by CHERIE COLYER
BLOG TOUR
BOOK REVIEW

Marissa's Rating:    4 out of 5 Power Binding Stars !!

Published by Omnific Publishing

Madison is familiar enough with change, and she hates everything about it. Change took her long-term boyfriend away from her. It caused one of her friends to suddenly hate her. It’s responsible for the death of a local along with a host of other mysterious happenings. But when Madison meets a hot new guy, she thinks her luck is about to improve.
Madison is instantly drawn to the handsome and intriguing Isaac Addington. She quickly realizes he’s a guy harboring a secret, but she’s willing to risk the unknown to be with him.

Her world really spins out of control, however, when her best friend becomes delusional, seeing things that aren’t there and desperately trying to escape their evil. When the doctors can’t find the answers, Madison seeks her own.

Nothing can prepare her for what she is about to discover.

Dangerous, intoxicating, and darkly romantic, Embrace is a thriller that will leave you spellbound.

MARISSA'S REVIEW:
If you love to read YA...and love a beautiful romance.....with a helping of paranormal....then Embrace by Cherie Colyer is for you.

Madison, our lead, has to deal with a number of changes - and change is not her ideal way of dealing with life. With odd  happenings in her home town, in walks Isaac - a very hot and mysterious guy whom she's immediately attracted to. I did find that though the attraction was instant and acceptable, the love was a little too quick to happen - this is often the case in Teen novels and not always a bad thing....the author does need to keep the reader hooked on every page and sometimes dragging out a romance can be somewhat tiresome.

The way Cherie Colyer has romanticised the connection with Madison and Isaac is great. A spark, a tingle and even a zap is shared by the two whenever they are together - it is only Isaac that has the control of his powers to keep them from passionate harm!  Madison has to learn to control hers to be able to even come close to the embrace and kiss she longs for with Isaac....he could make it happen - but he's gonna make her work for it first!!

Madison has embraced her witchcraft, and as a natural witch she will have some potency - but first she must learn to control her powers before someone gets hurt or she burns down her house!

Madison, Isaac, Josh and Kaylee must solve who is the witch behind curses and bind their power before someone is killed......and that would be Madison as all actions are pointed in her direction.  Just when you think you have it figured out and the characters have picked the same person....a twist, a turn, some stolen magic and you'll find yourself guessing again!

Thank you to YA Bound and Omnific Publishing for including us in the Embrace Tour and providing a review copy.

FATED by Sarah Alderson AUSTRALIAN BLOG TOUR

Welcome again Sarah to Novels On The Run.  Thanks for taking time to answer my questions and hopefully have a little fun on the way!

Today we are the second stop over for the Sarah Alderson – Fated Blog Tour…..WOOT HOO!  Todays interview theme is Choosing Your Own Fate.  Now for those that have read FAQ’s on Sarah, you will know that there is probably not much in her life that she would need to change….well not if I was her!

Many of us grow through childhood wanting to be one thing and turning out to be something else. Was there a career path or family legacy that was expected of you to follow or that was prominent within your family? If so, did you follow in that direction at any stage?

No, my parents never pushed me towards one thing or another, they've always let my brother and I follow our hearts. But I went to the kind of school which didn't provide much in the way of inspiration or ideas beyond becoming a lawyer or doctor. For a while I thought I would become a lawyer but then after university I temped in the private sector and utterly loathed it. I got fired by Accenture (probably the best thing that ever happened to me) and then I decided I needed to work in the non profit sector. It fit my values a lot more. I worked in that sector for 9 years - it was so creative and fun and filled with passionate people all wanting to make the world a better place - I loved it.

Do you feel you were “fated” to be an author?

It never even crossed my mind to be a writer. And then one day BAM. Just like that the idea came to me and I just knew, once I started, that I could never stop and that I could never do anything else again and be as happy. It's my passion. It's not a job. It's not even work. I love it. And I realise how lucky I am to have discovered that. But I do think that having lived a fair bit and travelled and experienced lots of different jobs makes me a better writer now. I don't think I would have been so good ten years ago. It came at the right time. Is that fate? I think so.

In FATED, Evie is the last in a long line of demon slayers…… she can’t change that fact…..but she can change how she uses this. Do you personally believe that everyone has a distinct fate already mapped out?  Is it just a matter of deciding how your fate will play out even if the outcome is the same?

This is how I imagine it is; we're all sticks on a river and fate's trying to pull us down a particular stream, but sometimes we pull against the current and sometimes we sit and hang out in little cove doing nothing, maybe because we're scared of the rapids up ahead. Other times we take the route that other people pull us down because it looks like that's the path we should be on too or because someone (teachers, parents, friends) tell us it's the only way to go. So we have choice in our lives for sure. But if we sticks listen to our instincts and trust them then we'll end up on the right course, and we'll arrive at the place we're meant to be and life will ROCK! that's my experience anyway. You need courage and commitment to take that path though. That's the deal. (Did you like my little analogy? Deepak Chopra move over right?)

Now, I thought we could take the interview to a relatively simple (yet I hope fun!) level!!
When I was asked to do a Choose Your Own Fate themed interview, what instantly came to mind was the old Choose Your Own Adventure tales.  So I would love it if you could choose answers to the following questions……which will give us a quirky little short story at the end!!

Fate has decided the following for you:
           a)      You’re the only one who can save mankind
          b)      You are destined to be with one individual but desire another
           c)      All alone with your cats for company!
          d)      You live a long and uneventful life
          e)      After losing your parents in a house fire, your dog being hit by a car, your best friend having an affair  with your boyfriend, the small town gossip following you everywhere……

     Sarah’s Answer =   a and e) cos that makes a good story ;)

You decided to sell all your worldly possessions and move to:
           a)      A cabin nestled in the trees around Lake Tahoe
           b)      A villa looking out over the sun drenched beaches of Western Australia
           c)      A cave house built into the cliffs overlooking the Aegean Sea
           d)      Take refuge and solace in Deception Valley (Kalahari Desert)
           e)      Travel back in time to be a senior in high school and have a rocking awesome time!!

Sarah’s Answer  =  b - My next move is going to be to somewhere close to the ocean

What is your special skill/ability/paranormal affliction!:
           a)      Just plain normal human
           b)      Shape Shifter
           c)      Super speed
          d)      Telekinetic
          e)      X-ray vision
          f)       Energy Conductor
         g)      High school cheerleader with lethal pom poms!
         h)      See the future

Sarah’s Answer  =  Shapeshifter who is also telekinetic.

         Love……..
          a)      Just the two of us no decisions required
         b)      Triangle
         c)      Square – I like lots of choices!!
         d)      No thanks too busy saving the world!
         e)      Just me and my cats thanks!

Sarah’s Answer  =  can it be 8-sided? (with all my male characters please!)

        Money…..
        a)      Grows on trees in my backyard!
        b)      Barter systems rock!
         c)      Would love it…..just don’t have it
        d)      Average wage for a normal days work
     e)    Super heroes have no need for money! (We get TV endorsements and book deals!)

Sarah’s Answer = Barter systems rock!

You decide to change fate by doing this:
         a)      Place a “wanted” ad in the paper for more “super heroes” to join forces
         b)      Move to another destination and try again
          c)      Get rid of your cats and try internet dating
         d)      Write up your ultimate bucket list and live life on the edge!

Sarah’s Answer  =  b) because I love to travel and d) cos I've done that too

So to sum up we know this of fictional Sarah Alderson……….

After losing her parents in a house fire, her dog being hit by a car, her best friend having an affair with her boyfriend and the small town gossip following her everywhere (stalkers are so annoying!), Sarah admits to being the only one who can save mankind – geez, much pressure?!
Sarah is a telekinetic shapeshifter who just needs a long holiday and break from reality.  So she packs up, sells her belongings and moves to a villa looking out over the sun drenched beaches of Western Australia with her 8 men in her love octagon – choices are a good thing!
Living in an “alternative” village, Sarah and her man candy live off the land and barter their wares for the staples of life – wine, cheese and French sticks!
After living it up and still finding no meaning to her life, Sarah writes her bucket list for life, leaves the lads and the beach behind her in search of another destination and another new beginning.
Where she goes, is anyones guess.  What she looks like when gets there will also be a mystery. At least she won’t have to physically carry her own bags around!

THANKS SO MUCH SARAH FOR INCLUDING NOVELS ON THE RUN IN YOUR FATED BLOG TOUR!

FATED by Sarah Alderson is a fantastic read.  I urge you all to get your hands on a copy and read, read, read!

ENJOY!
