BOOK REVIEW - TRICKERY by JAYMIN EVE & JANE WASHINGTON - CURSE OF THE GODS # 1 - YA FANTASY

By: Jaymin Eve and Jane Washington
Published By: Jaymin Eve and Jane Washington
Released: Available Now
Details: Kindle purchase, 298 Pages

RATING: 5 LIGHT ON FANTASY, AWESOME ON WIT AND HOT SOLS STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

Willa Knight: Dweller. Slave. Non-magical being.

In Minatsol, being a dweller means that you are literally no better than dirt. In fact, dirt might actually be more useful than Willa. Her life will be one of servitude to the sols, the magic-blessed beings who could one day be chosen to become gods.

At least her outer village is far removed from the cities of the sols, and she won’t ever be forced to present herself to them... Until one small mistake changes everything, and Willa is awarded a position to serve at Blesswood, the top sol academy in the world—a position that she definitely did not earn.

Under the sudden, watchful eye of the gods, she will be tasked to serve the Abcurse brothers, five sols built of arrogance, perfection and power. They are almost gods themselves, and under their service she is either going to end up sentenced to death, or else they are going to ruin her so badly that she will wish for it.

Either way, she is in trouble.

BOOK REVIEW:

I really enjoyed this first installment in the Curse of the Gods series. Willa is quite the clumsy character and the five sols (brothers) are great characters.

The thing with Willa, don’t confuse being overly clumsy with being dumb, because she is far from dumb. Enormously clumsy—yes. Dumb—no.

Trickery is very entertaining and light fantasy. This I enjoyed.

The more you read, the more you learn about Willa and the more you will learn about the five brothers who are all stars in their own right even when there are twins and triplets making up this group of sols.

The last one. He looked just like Coen, the pain-gifted sol who had tried to kill me. They both appeared slightly older than the other three: Yael, the persuasion-gifted one; Siret, the trickery-gifted one; and Aros, the one who apparently had some kind of seduction gift.

A great chemistry grows between Willa and her sols, which has you giggling as you read.

“What are you doing in the male dorm?”

“Exploring my sexuality.” I leaned against the cart, propping my elbow, wiping my expression into something neutral. “How am I doing?”

“I can see your nipples. Your shirt’s wet.”

Emmy is the best friend/sidekick, even though Willa herself seems a bit of a sidekick to the sols, sometimes.

“I’m sick of them. I never want to see them again. Except Aros; he smells nice. And Rome, because he’s so strong. I’m pretty sure not even Rau can get past him. I don’t need the others. Except Siret. I’m pretty sure he hates me, but he’s really good at catching me like just before I face-plant into something. But the others, I don’t need them. Not at all.” I paused, my brow furrowing, my mouth pursing, and then I quickly blurted, “Except Coen and Yael. Coen is really good at making decisions, and if I leave out Yael he’ll probably hunt me the hell down and haunt me—”

That’s all of them,” Emmy interrupted smoothly. She didn’t sound panicked anymore. Now she sounded like she was trying not to laugh.

A lot of wit is spread throughout this book, making it a very enjoyable read.

“How the hell have you stayed alive this long?” he asked.

I shrugged, trying to catch my breath. “No idea, it’s been a rough road.”

I am looking forward to Persuasion # 2, which is released. The cover art is so beautiful.

BOOK REVIEW - RED QUEEN by VICTORIA AVEYARD - RED QUEEN # 1 - YA FANTASY - HARPER TEEN

By: Victoria Aveyard
Published By: Harper Teen
Released: Available Now
Details: Paperback from library, 387 Pages

RATING: 5 FRESH STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

This is a world divided by blood – red or silver.

The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.

That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.

Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.

But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart.

BOOK REVIEW:

I used to think there was only the divide, Silver and Red, rich and poor, kings and slaves. But there’s much more in between, things I don’t understand, and I’m right in the middle of it. I grew up wondering if I’d have food for supper, now I’m standing in a palace about to be eaten alive.

It is very hard coming up with something fresh in the YA world that is gonna grab readers by the masses around the globe.

Victoria certainly achieved this.

Even though I did see through a couple characters fairly early on, this story is still a five star read for me.

Red Queen is very rich in descriptive, which brings an amazing visual while reading.

I loved the whole concept of the Reds and the Silvers.

Divergent, ( that other big YA series)  has its society divided into factions, and this is the same for Red Queen, but it's different and this I LOVE.

It sucks if you are a Red, basically.

But—then comes along a girl…

And then there is a boy…

And then there is a brother…

Throw in some royalty…

Throw in some dramalama, rebels, lust, dancing lessons (*sigh*), more rebels, wise people, more rebels...special powers, gladiator style take-downs and a bloody good ending.

When I thought I had found a plot flaw and it was scratching away at me…I simply had to keep reading.

Damn—this was good.

Sure there is a basic recipe that all these types of stories start with, but it's the other ingredients you add—that set it above others and make it worth tasting.

I highly recommend Red Queen.

The cover art is amazing. Very apt. Easily understood.

I will be purchasing this series for my bookshelves, because Mini-Me is gonna be getting them shoved under her nose.

Victoria, I give you my glove clap.

Anyone can betray anyone.

BOOK REVIEW - A THOUSAND PIECES OF YOU by CLAUDIA GRAY - FIREBIRD # 1 - YA FANTASY - HARPER TEEN

By: Claudia Gray
Published By: Harper Teen
Released: Available Now
Details: Paperback from library, 357 Pages

RATING: 4 THEO & PAUL STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

Every Day meets Cloud Atlas in this heart-racing, space- and time-bending, epic new trilogy from New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray.

Marguerite Caine’s physicist parents are known for their radical scientific achievements. Their most astonishing invention: the Firebird, which allows users to jump into parallel universes, some vastly altered from our own. But when Marguerite’s father is murdered, the killer—her parent’s handsome and enigmatic assistant Paul—escapes into another dimension before the law can touch him.

Marguerite can’t let the man who destroyed her family go free, and she races after Paul through different universes, where their lives entangle in increasingly familiar ways. With each encounter she begins to question Paul’s guilt—and her own heart. Soon she discovers the truth behind her father’s death is more sinister than she ever could have imagined.

A Thousand Pieces of You explores a reality where we witness the countless other lives we might lead in an amazingly intricate multiverse, and ask whether, amid infinite possibilities, one love can endure.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:
I meant it when I said I didn’t believe in love at first sight. It takes time to really, truly fall for someone. Yet I believe in a moment. A moment when you glimpse the truth within someone, and they glimpse the truth within you. In that moment, you don’t belong to yourself any longer, not completely. Part of you belongs to him; part of him belongs to you. After that, you can’t take it back, no matter how much you want to, no matter how hard you try.

First of all I want to say, cover art NAILED IT!

Love it!

You can’t help but turn the book upside down and have a good look.

Secondly, fan of Claudia Gray. Love her Evernight series. Simply loved it.

I enjoyed this book and the whole idea of the parallel universes and the Firebird as the means to slip into a new one. I did admittedly get a little confused a few times with some of the theories and explanations of the parallel Pauls etc, especially when it came to the erm, sex scene and the whole which-Paul-and-how-much-the-other-would-know and ...GOOD LAWD!!

I kind of felt bad for Paul # 1 we shall call him, or was that Paul # 2?

Anyhoo, I loved Paul from Russia. I could have read him the whole book.

I like to note when I review, and I did have a bit of a plot chuckle and then more of a mortified plot *GASP* she-did-not-just-inner-monologue-that, moment.

Loyalist solider, you were a good boy running after the two Duchesses, but they are right beside each other and you nab the bratty younger one and leave the other one by herself. Admittedly it did leave the main character ( Duchess Marguerite) to get her nookie on and then inner monologue to my horror...

Endangered? Oh. By danger he means pregnancy. It’s not like it would be great for me to get pregnant right now in any dimension, but for the Grand Duchess Marguerite—intended to be the virgin bride of the Prince of Wales—it would be personally and politically disastrous. Fear quivers in my belly, but I tell myself it was only once.

Gahhhh!

Folkettes you can get pregnant with unprotected sex the first time. Just clarifying.

“They may have rigged the train with explosives. You must run to the forest.”

Cool, so Katya and Marguerite run. They flee to the forest.

But then shenanigans happen with a baddie and ...

His knife finds the traitor’s gut, and the loyalist grabs Katya in his arms as the dead man falls. He begins running with her back toward the train.

Loyalist soldier dude, what about that possible bomb? Oh and didn’t you forget Marguerite she is big sis and also royalty.

Hehehe.

I did work out something but then I got a big BAM did-not-work-that-out moment and I was so excited to get that twist.

I did enjoy this adventure of jumping into parallel universes and I am looking forward to more Theos and Pauls. The lads are so different but both so endearing.

Bring on Ten Thousand Skies Above You, and another brilliant piece of cover art.

BLOG TOUR - CRYSTAL KINGDOM by AMANDA HOCKING - KANIN CHRONICLES # 3 - YA FANTASY - PAN MACMILLAN

By: Amanda Hocking
Published By: Pan Macmillan
Released: Available Now
Details: Paperback from publisher for honest review, 422 Pages

RATING: 4.5 BRYN STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads
Cast out by her kingdom and far from home, she's the Kanin people's only hope.

Bryn Aven - unjustly charged with murder and treason - is on the run. The one person who can help is her greatest enemy, the enigmatic Konstantin Black. Konstantin is her only ally against those who have taken over her kingdom and threaten to destroy everything she holds dear. But can she trust him?

As Bryn fights to clear her name, the Kanin rulers’ darkest secrets are coming to light… and now the entire troll world is on the brink of war. Will it tear Bryn from Ridley Dresden, the only guy she’s ever loved? And can she join forces with Finn Holmes and the Trylle kingdom? One thing is certain: an epic battle is underway—and when it’s complete, nothing will ever be the same…

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle :

Things got hopping in this final installment. I really enjoyed the action side and the lurrvvve side was a slow burn but I was endeared to it and knew it was inevitable, just some emotional bridges to cross along the way.

Bryn and Konstantin get paired up for a fair bit of this book and I enjoyed having them partnered up, not by choice but by circumstance.

I really like Konstantin. Sure he did some shady, erm bad things in his past and I am not sure if I was that invested in why he did them, but he did, so here stands our bad boy in more ways than one.

But bad boy isn’t altogether bad, and I knew that, I could feel it early into the trilogy.

Ridley and Bryn spend a fair bit of this book apart, but when they get their mojo on the same page...

There are twists, a couple I could see coming, but for the most part I loved that I got little shocks and surprises. I enjoy getting those in a book.

There are villains and allies must be made and swords come out and Omte are about and Ogres and all good fantasy stuff is going on.

There are moments that will squeeze your heart tight and moments where you are cheering on Bryn who is being kickass and well... a cool chick.

Crystal Kingdom was a satisfying ending to the Kanin Chronicles. I am now looking forward to what Amanda will bring us next.

Published By: Pan Macmillan
Released: Available Now
Details: Paperback from publisher for honest review, 304 Pages

RATING: 4 RIPLEY STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

The second novel in the Kanin trilogy, from the international bestseller Amanda Hocking.

In this series, we return to the world of Hocking's million-copy bestselling Trylle trilogy...

Bryn Aven is still struggling with her burgeoning relationship with Ridley. She's also set on completing her mission to find the missing Skojare Queen. But when they do finally discover what happened, Bryn finds out that things are much more complicated than she'd originally thought.

And as she gets closer to the truth, Bryn is framed for the murder of the Kanin King himself. She ends up on the run, as home holds too few answers and no solutions.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

“So, what do you say, white rabbit?”

This was another great installment in the Kanin Chronicles.

Bryn and Kasper get paired up to go on security detail. Not a lot is revealed moving the story forward but we do get to know Kasper and Tilda better.

Ripley is a bit of a cranky pants and Konstantin is MIA from this book...well mostly.

I was so looking forward to some Konstantin in this instalment. I felt like I was looking for him.

The good thing is Ripley and Bryn seem to be getting their mojo on the same plane, but will it last?

Oh and that ending...whahhhhh!

I am looking forward to reading Crystal Kingdom up next.

I have to repeat, the cover art is GORGEOUS on this series.

BOOK REVIEW - THE SOWER COMES by MELISSA ESKUE OUSLEY - THE SOLAS BEIR TRILOGY # 3 - YA FANTASY

By: Melissa Eskue Ousley
Published By: Castle Garden Publications
Released: 11th July 2015
Details: Paperback from author for honest review

RATING: 4 YA FANTASY STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

As the new king of a world in turmoil, life for David Corbin is grim, at best.

Abby Brown, the love of his life, has vanished without a trace, and David fears the worst: that she was brutally murdered by the Daughters of Mercy, vicious creatures employed by Tynan Tierney, an evil lord vying for the throne. One of David’s best friends, Jon, has been captured by the Kruorumbrae, Tierney’s army of bogeymen, and David has no idea if he’s still alive, or how to rescue him. The powerful Eastern Oracle has pledged loyalty to Tierney’s cause, and all communication with David and the other three Oracles has ceased. Cai Terenmare is on the brink of war. And, to make matters worse, a new evil has arisen, the mysterious Sower, a monster puppeteered by Tierney himself.

On the bright side, David has his treacherous aunt locked up in his dungeon. Lucia’s not happy that her ex, Tierney, tried to kill her, and she owes David for saving her life. Lucia may have critical information about Tierney’s plans for the Sower, but after all the trouble she’s caused, can David ever trust her again?

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

I am going to start by saying I think Lucia turned out to be quite the surprise character in this trilogy, without really knowing it at first.
It took me to read this book to see under her layers and what made her tick.

This has been a wonderful YA fantasy trilogy to read. You can see how much Melissa loves writing in this genre.

The cover art has always been a stand out for me.

We join Abby and David, who for me has done a complete one eighty, he was the motorbike guy in Sign Of The Throne and he became King material in The Sower Comes.

Jon has been a fave of mine and we only see him for a small part of this book but he is such a valued friend to Abby.

Hedeon is another character I really liked even though he again is not in the book a great deal.

Tierney, now I almost...almost, felt sorry for him in a certain scene. I can see how Lucia had her emotions mislead.

Speaking again of Lucia and that tray scene, when you have no weapon you make do and she certainly knew how to use that tray!

This instalment has a plague that really had me scratching my head how it was going to be stopped. Visually that scene played out quite spectacularly in my mind even though it wasn’t a very long scene.

This has been a great journey I have spent with all these characters and I feel very satisfied how it all turned out.

Well done Melissa. J

BOOK REVIEW - FROSTFIRE by AMANDA HOCKING - KANIN CHRONICLES # 1 - YA FANTASY - PAN MACMILLAN

By: Amanda Hocking
Published By: Pan Macmillan
Released: Available Now
Details: Paperback from publisher for honest review, 321 Pages

RATING: 4 RIDLEY & KONSTANTIN STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

Bryn Aven is an outcast among the Kanin, the most powerful of the troll tribes.

Set apart by her heritage and her past, Bryn is a tracker who's determined to become a respected part of her world. She has just one goal: become a member of the elite King’s Guard to protect the royal family. She's not going to let anything stand in her way, not even a forbidden romance with her boss Ridley Dresden.

But all her plans for the future are put on hold when Konstantin– a fallen hero she once loved – begins kidnapping changelings. Bryn is sent in to help stop him, but will she lose her heart in the process?

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

I have been an Amanda Hocking fan from the word go, when she was self published. I have one of her original Trylle trilogy covers and My Blood Approves, signed.

I have watched Amanda almost be the pioneer for self published authors. I know she wasn’t the first, but she made a HUGE statement with the amount of books she sold by herself and then she was picked up by St Martin’s in US.

She has just kept on writing. And I keep on reading.

I do love seeing a blurb of mine inside quite a few of her books, gives me a little tickle.

Now I am onto her spinoff series that started with Trylle Trilogy and now we have Kanin Chronicles.

I am back in her fantasy world and love seeing Finn pop up. Although I will admit I got a little shock he is settled with two kids, a wife and one on the way, considering the whole he and Wendy issue and the why.

I did love Finn so hard in Trylle trilogy, but Loki was amazing too.

My heart is happy for Finn as it did feel a little lost for him after Ascend.

So we have Bryn in this new spinoff and she is very much like Finn with how she takes her tracker job uber seriously and shiz just doesn’t get in the way.

Ridley the Rektor, is a great character but I feel like I am missing something a little there at the moment. Some connection.

Ridley is essentially Bryn’s boss but he has eyes for Bryn and she has eyes for him, but like Finn, she takes her tracker job very seriously so he’s gotta go get himself some side fluff, who is actually a lovely girl.

Bring the Amanda-Finn-Loki-Wendy conundrum on. Nah, this time it could be easy for me to not have my heart broken...mind you there is also that other conundrum...

“I love it when you talk clean to me, quoting training manuals like sonnets,” Ridley teased, but I found his usual flirtation off-putting since I didn’t know how to respond.

We have what at first impressions is the handsome villain of the story, Konstantin Black.

But...is he?

Now from where I’m sitting there are the usual suspects to take into consideration this early into the trilogy...I know, but I do have me some.

I shall keep them to myself...but something isn’t adding up to me.

I love that Finn’s sister, Ember is part of this series. She is the lesbian character, not that there is anything wrong with that, just sayin.

I did get a nice OMG moment in the latter... latter part of this book and that was awesome.

It was one of those Luke I am your father, moments. Even though there was no Luke or a father...but you know what I mean...we just kinda go ...whahhhhhhh.

Frostfire was a good start to this series. I am missing a little fire in the story but I am on to Ice Kissed next, so we shall see where that takes me.

I adore the cover art, it is so pretty for both US and UK covers.

The thing is I will always pick up an Amanda Hocking book to read. I have such a love for My Blood Approves, which may never be resolved ( the last book ) and Trylle series.

I do recommend getting a hold of the Trylle series and also My Blood Approves and delving into what started off the whole Amanda Hocking phenomenon.

EXCERPT:

“Better.” Sappheire, Athena’s right-hand Siren and the leader of Zeus’s female warrior army, nodded at Daphne’s side. “You keep practicing and you’ll get there.”

Daphne wasn’t so sure. All Sirens went through rigorous training in a variety of different areas—combat, seduction, warfare, strategy—and she’d passed each section with high marks from her trainers. But she couldn’t take her final Siren vows until she conquered the marksmanship exam. And at the moment, her aim wasn’t even close to one-hundred percent, which was why she was out here now, on the training field behind Siren headquarters, working on her shot long after the other recruits had retired to the mess hall for dinner. So far she’d failed the test three times. Until she could hit a target repeatedly dead center—without injuring herself—she was SOL. Which meant her dream of being a full-fledged Siren kept hovering in the distance, just out of reach.

“That’s a nice thought,” she said, lowering her bow and shaking out her hand. “I’m not sure how realistic it is, though.”

“Persistence will pay off.” Sappheire’s luxuriously sleek mane—a mixture of blonde and chestnut and ginger locks—swayed as she turned Daphne’s way, and those brilliant blue eyes for which she was named sparkled. “If this is your calling, it’ll happen. Just don’t give up.”

Dressed in form-fitting black pants, a tight, black, low-cut tank that showed off her cleavage and muscular arms, and kick-ass stiletto boots that elongated her legs, Sappheire pressed the button at the end of her bow, shrinking the weapon down to a six-inch metal bar. She’d lost the leather breastplate and arm guards she usually wore in the field, but she still looked as menacing as any warrior. And not for the first time, Daphne was glad this Siren had taken a liking to her instead of harassing her as she did some of the other recruits.

Slipping the weapon into her boot, Sappheire added, “Athena’s been watching you.”

Watching her fail? Daphne winced. She wasn’t sure she needed to know that, not when she already felt like a major loser.

Daphne shrank her own weapon. She was dressed the same as Sappheire—tight black pants, fitted black tank, crazy high boots it had taken her years to learn to walk in—but where Sappheire wore the outfit with confidence and grace, Daphne still felt awkward in the take-notice-of-me-now getup. “Well, if nothing else, I’m sure she’s entertained.”

RAVAGED Synopsis:

Ari—Once an Eternal Guardian, now he's nothing but a rogue mercenary with one singular focus: revenge.

His guardian brothers all think he’s dead, but Ari is very much alive in the human realm, chipping away at Zeus’s Sirens every chance he can, reveling in his brutality and anonymity. Until, that is, he abducts the wrong female and his identity is finally exposed. It will take more than the Eternal Guardians, more even than the gods to rein Ari in after everything he’s done. It may just take the courage of one woman willing to stand up to a warrior who’s become a savage.

BOOK REVIEW - KIERA'S QUEST : PERCEPTIONS by KRISTY BROWN - KIERA'S QUEST # 3 - TWEEN FANTASY - MUSE IT UP PUBLISHING

By: Kristy Brown
Published By: Muse It Up
Released : Available Now
Details: Kindle for honest review from author, 140 Pages

RATING: 4 WITCH QUEEN STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

The Witch Queen has sunk to a new level of evil.

Kiera is helplessly stuck in Zakk’s realm. With the vortex destroyed, she is desperate to find a way home. Her Uncle Tom, her friends and now the boy she loves, are in danger. Will Kiera find the strength and the self-belief she needs to save them?

On her lonely journey she meets new allies from peculiar races. The Prophecy is all falling into place. Will Kiera be able to forgive the people she trusted? Will she be able to save the world from her twisted nemesis? Will she finally believe that she is indeed the ‘chosen one’?

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

The gang are all back in the third installment of the Kiera Quest series.

Perceptions carries on straight from where Sacrifices finished off.

The Witch Queen who was my fave character in this book was quite hilarious with all her snark and ‘deary’ comments.

“Oh keep your bloomers on. It’s not like it’s the end of the world,”the Witch Queen spat, without hesitation. She realised that this could not be Kiera-like behaviour, on seeing all three idiots, with their mouths swinging open.

I am not sure if I would have been fooled by her, but the gang were. The Witch Queen found it simply too hard to behave like a Kiera doppleganger.

I liked watching the ‘real’ Kiera and Zakk on their quest to find and make it through the vortex’s to get back to earth. They were aided by Kristy’s creative fantasy characters, the Capetorads and Mason the duplicating adonis, Hershen.

The shenanigans being played out on earth with witchie poo and her minion came with some laughs.

I think Madam Swift needs a gold star she was the only one who could put two and two together pretty darn quickly.

For all their heroic ways, Daz, Joe and Maddy certainly weren’t switched on when it came to the antics of their so called friend, played by the rather funny, Witch Queen.

This is very much a tween read. A very clean read. The romance is very, very light.

Will Daz and Maddy, Joe and Kiera, Zakk and Alex get a HEA?

Well, I guess you will have to read the fourth and final installment in Kiera’s Quest to find out.

A fun read, filled with Kirsty’s imagination.

Thank you Melissa for the book.

RATING: 4.5 FANTASY STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

Darkness is beguiling...and power always comes with a price.

Adopted by loving parents, David Corbin had no idea his life as he knew it was a lie. Then he met a girl. Abby Brown freed David from the spell keeping him from the truth, that he was the lost heir to the throne in a magical realm.

Even though he got the girl and gained a kingdom, David had no clue about the unfathomable power he would inherit, nor did he realize how much he would have to sacrifice to keep the throne.

If there is any hope of winning the war against the deadly Blood Shadows, David and Abby will have to journey to the outer edges of the realm to secure the loyalty of the four Oracles. Along the way, they will learn just how seductive darkness can be.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

Melissa has captivated me even more with this installment in The Solas Beir Trilogy.

We journey from Newcastle Beach into the world of Cai Terenmare with Abby, David, Jon, and Marisol along for the ride. Marisol has redeemed herself from her bullying ways in the first book and she is now part of the gang, fighting the good fight.

Cael is still the ever present First Knight to his beloved Eulalia, Queen of Cai Terenmare.

I totally dig Cael.

Nysa the nixie makes an appearance and Fergal is always a cutie. I like him.

Tynan Tierney is a most excellent villain. One minute I was almost sympathizing with him, then the next I understood why he was the villain of this story. I think he is very well written. He is almost one of my fave characters.

Did I just say that?

Or should I say he is one of my fave villains? He does know how to manipulate his minions like a true puppet master.

I did get a couple, gasp moments with our resident villain.

A fantasy filled with creative creatures, I mean fanged toads, not something you want to meet without protection. The Daughter’s Of Mercy, those chicks don’t know how to play nice.

The Kruorumbrae are quite evil and Tierney’s minions are in full swing in this installment.

Melissa raises the bar with some gore, and I had some sad moments. I also got a couple awesome twists that I did not see coming.

I always give an author a glove clap when I get a twist thrown at me that I hadn’t theorized on.

I will be honest and say I thought the first half of the book was a little slower than the latter half.

The latter half really took off and I really enjoyed the time we spent with the Southern Oracle and the Boto.

When we were in the Eastern Oracle’s realm, was one of my fave parts of the book as it was fast paced and a lot was happening in the storyline.

Shiz was going down.

All the characters were being challenged. I wanted to whip out a sword and join in.

Hedeon is a new character I really like.

But can he be trusted?

The ages of Melissa’s main characters are all eighteen and over, yet the romance is very chaste and they are all rather proper with each other. Almost old school with their behavior.

Not that there is anything wrong with that. It is a very clean read.

I do enjoy reading this trilogy. The fantasy is creative and visually I do see it very well in my head when I am reading.

I loved the moment when the title of the book clicked.

I am intrigued to know more especially after the ending that lends itself to the title of book three, plus all that shiz that went down.

Whahhh!

I was taken on a fantasy adventure with endearing characters, a villain that is quite unpredictable and a cast of fantasy creatures that go bump in the night. I am left tapping my foot for the third installment.

"You don't have to carry me -- I can walk. I'm fine. Really."
"Shhh," David said. "I was trying to be romantic. You're stepping on my hero moment here, woman."

RELEASE DAY BOOK BLITZ - THE FLY HOUSE by MISTY PROVENCHER - SELF PUBLISHED - YA FANTASY - DYSTOPIAN

The Earth’s atmosphere is swiss cheese. To avoid the oncoming oxygen crisis, black-sheep heiress, Maeve Aypotu, has been chemically suspended in one of the Archive’s plush, multi-million dollar chambers, located underground. Scientists claim they can patch everything up in about 15 years, so, just to be safe, the Archive programmed the chambers to open in 17 years.
And then, everything on Earth went wrong.

Up on the surface, Pluto has taken control of the planet, scorching away all signs of human civilization and reconstructing the environment to suit the Plutian’s lucrative dragon trade. Humans that survived were forced to be laborers, divided into five Houses, each handling a different stage of the dragon harvest. Survival and repopulation have become a currency among the Houses. To make matters worse, Rha Diem, the rugged leader of the Fly House, has gotten word that the cost of existence just rose to a price that no human should have to pay. And now there is a whole Archive of survivors that will be expected to pay too.

Learning to trust one another may need to start small—with the fusion of one powerful Rha and one bad ass black sheep—before a damaged race can even hope to regain control of their alien Earth.
