RATING: 5 FAST PACED, EXCITING STARS!!

Blurb: Goodreads

VENGEANCE WILL BE HERS

Allison Sekemoto once struggled with the question: human or monster?

With the death of her love, Zeke, she has her answer.

MONSTER

Allie will embrace her cold vampire side to hunt down and end Sarren, the psychopathic vampire who murdered Zeke. But the trail is bloody and long, and Sarren has left many surprises for Allie and her companions—her creator, Kanin, and her blood brother, Jackal. The trail is leading straight to the one place they must protect at any cost—the last vampire-free zone on Earth, Eden. And Sarren has one final, brutal shock in store for Allie.

In a ruined world where no life is sacred and former allies can turn on you in one heartbeat, Allie will face her darkest days. And if she succeeds, triumph is short-lived in the face of surviving forever alone.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

“Let’s go stop the apocalypse.”

Man, I LOVED this book. It was such a ride from start to finish.

Julie has done a brilliant job of this series. I have loved every book.

Oh, yeah. This book was YA Epic.

I got to say, Julie amped up the fighting and the gore in The Forever Song and I loved it. It was very true to the dire situations the characters found themselves in.

Shiz is going down!

The Forever Song has us watching Kanin, Allison and Jackal, trying to save what is left of the human race and vampire race. They all have a common goal to band together and stop Sarren who is one of the most evil SOB’s I have read in YA.

Sarren is setting devious traps for the trio to fall into and not make it out of. Rabids, blood and gore are visually painted in our mind as we read Julie’s words of awesomesauce.

Yes. I said awesomesauce.

“That must’ve taken him a while. Bastard sure went through a lot of trouble, just for us. I feel so special, don’t you?”

“Well,” Jackal remarked, gazing around the carnage strewn space, "that doesn’t scream ‘trap’at all. Is this the best Sarren could come up with?”

Jackal has the best lines. I love reading him. He is the bad boy we love to read. Julie changes our mind about him from The Immortal Rules to The Forever Song.

Julie threw everything at her characters in this finale. Both emotional turmoil, and she had them fighting for their lives and for the beings that were left on Earth.

I cried for the boy I had lost, the human who’d believed I was more than a monster, even if I couldn’t believe it myself.

You’re not evil,” he had whispered, those bright, solemn blue eyes staring into me, peeling away every defense. “No one who fights so hard to do the right thing is evil.”

I got sad, I laughed, I got real nervous for them, Sarren is a bastard of the highest degree. His mind will not be saved. He is true evil.

I can see this trilogy as a movie. The fighting scenes would be magnificent up on the big screen. Jackal would have the audience laughing, and Allison is trying to fight the good fight and not become the monster that lies within her waiting to be released.

“Sister.” The vampire’s voice was a warning, and he raised his hands, one of which held a bloody fire ax. “Don’t be stupid. Get a hold of yourself. Don’t make me smear your brains all over the pavement.”

Kanin won't give up on Allison.

“I tried, Kanin. I really did. But you know what I discovered?” I curled my lip into a sneer. “We are monsters. No matter how long I fight it, I’m always going to want to hunt and kill and destroy. You taught me that, remember? What happened with --" my mind recoiled from his name  “-- with that human-- that was stupid and wrong and eventually, I would’ve killed him. It was...better...that he died.”

Valentine from The Mortal Instruments was a bad YA evil guy, but Sarren he really does take the gold medal for his convincing role of Top Evil Dude.

I wouldn’t last a second around him and the traps he invents, he is quite the thinker when it comes to being creative with his evil killing.

“You know this is not going to be pleasant, right?” he stated to the rest of us. “Whatever the sicko has in here, he obviously wants us to see it. Which means it’s probably going to fuck with at least one of us, really badly.” He snickered, shaking his head. “Course, that’s the trap now, isn’t it? We could walk away, right now, but not knowing what’s inside is going to drive us bat-shit crazy.”

I felt how hard the characters all had to fight to stay alive.

All the time Jackal kept me amused with his dialogue.

“So, go ahead, tell him that everything is going to be fine. All the meatsacks are perfectly content on their happy little island, Sarren has given up world destruction to raise kittens, and the magic wish fairy will wave her wand and turn shit into gold.”

... “Hey, I’m just being a realist, here.” Jackal laced his hands behind his head, leaning back with a snort. “Someone in this fucked-up family has to be.”

“What the hell do these bloodbags use for fuel, their own piss?”

“The last ship from bat-shit crazytown is sailing, so cut the ropes and let’s get the hell out of Dodge.”

One of my personal favorites.

“Oh, for the love of fuck!” Jackal snarled, whirling and smashing a coil of rope across its face, sending it crashing back. “The bastards don’t give up, do they?”

I love Kanin, he is so serious and straight laced with his words of wisdom and frowns. He very much plays the role of parent to Allison and Jackal.

“No.” Kanin’s voice was suddenly hard, terrifying. “You are simply using your demon to hide from what you really feel. Because you are afraid of what that means, that it might be painful. It is far easier to be a monster than to confront the truth.”

Watching him put up with his two kids bickering, was kind of fun.

“Hey, old man,” Jackal called in a mocking voice, “you forgot to say ‘if you kids don’t stop I’m going to turn this car right around and then no one will go to Eden.’”

Hahahhaaaa!

Allison and Jackal are such fun to read when they are verbally sparring.

“Better be careful, Jackal.” My voice came out cold. Empty, because I couldn’t feel anything, even now. “It almost sounds like you care.”

“Oh, well, perish the thought, sister.” Jackal gave me a sneer and moved away. “I’ll stop talking, then. But if we reach Sarren, and he says something to make you fall apart, don’t expect me to pick up the pieces.”

But Jackal is also starting to show some humanity.

“What’s the real reason you want me around?”

“Because, my thick-headed little sister...”Jackal sighed. “I trust you.”

Julie has inserted some cool curveballs.

This was one hell of a ride from start to finish. Evil guy is truly evil and Jackal may surprise you how much you love him. A brilliant end to this trilogy that kept me turning the pages, but at the same time not wanting it to end.

Sarren gave me a look of genuine pity. “No, little bird,” he said, shaking his head. “You are still an infant demon, far too young to know the truth. Eternity is not a gift. It is a curse.”

ARC BOOK REVIEW - THE ETERNITY CURE by JULIE KAGAWA - BLOOD OF EDEN # 2 - HARLEQUIN TEEN - 5 GRITTY, DANGEROUS, DARK, BLOODY STARS!

By: Julie Kagawa
Published By: Harlequin Teen
Released : Available Now
Details : ARC for review from publisher, Paperback, 428 Pages

RATING: 5 GRITTY, DANGEROUS, DARK, BLOODY STARS!!

Blurb : Goodreads

In Allison Sekemoto's world, there is one one rule left: Blood Calls to blood.
Cast out of Eden and separated from the boy she dared to love, Allie will follow the call of blood to save her creator, Kanin, from the psychotic vampire, Sarren. But when the trail leads to Allie's birthplace in New Covington, what she finds there will the change the world forever - and possibly end human and vampire existence.

There's a new plague on the rise, a strain of the Red Lung virus that wiped out most of humanity generations ago - deadly to humans and vampires alike. The only hope for a cure lies in the secrets Kanin carries. If Allie can get to him in time...

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

Gritty, dangerous, dark, captivating, and there will be blood....lots of it.

Colour me happy people, this was quite a ride. There are no faeries in sight in this dark and fearsome instalment. Julie Kagawa has gone majorly dark, just check out the tone of the trailer and listen to that music!!

Oh, man! This was better than, ‘The Immortal Rules.’ Allison is now standing on her own two feet, well and truly. Kanin is at the torturous disposal of the enormously talented villain, Sarren.

This is one evil, crazy SOB.

“Here you are, little bird. Here you are, and here we are , and the world spins and dies around us.”

When I say torturous.... in Sarren’s mind, what goes around comes around ... 1,000 fold.

Oh deary me, Ms Kagawa, somebody has decided to have fun playing in a dark and bloody world with a side order of cannibalism.

Jackal, oh you made me hate you in The Immortal Rules and now I think you are humorous and dare I say civilized when opportunity presents itself.

But can I trust you?

This book is broken up into parts, much like book 1. You may think you are in for a humorous easy ride in the first part with the odd couple teaming up and the sarcastic banter playing out. I like to call them Team Jackison. Not in the romantic sense... not even close, lol!

But hold that thought...........

The ride gets creepier and down right dark, to the point that it was rather frightening with crossbows, mole men, Rabadism, and those tunnels. There is backstabbing and betrayal, and an enormous amount of blood that will be spilled through the pages.

Allison is a very worthy lead. She has grown a lot since book 1. She is taking on a lot considering her age as a vampire. She is just holding onto her humanity, but she is welcoming the vampire side of herself, when the need arises. Little Allison has become quite the fighter.

You will always be a monster -- there is no turning back from it. But what kind of monster you become is entirely up to you.

Jackal is a great side kick, although don’t tell him I called him that. When things are dark and gloomy, he will pipe up with something humorously sarcastic. I love it when Jackal calls Allison, ‘sister.’ I got the feeling at times that he liked being blood related, having somebody he could call family.....and then other times.....

“I must admit, I’ve killed a few siblings , but you’re the first one I actually thought I could get along with.”

“What do you think he wants?” Jackal gave a distracted grunt.

“Don’t ask me. I’m not a psychotic maniac.” He paused. “Well not as much of a psychotic maniac.”

“Exciting, isn’t it?” Jackal grinned and folded the map again. “It’s moments like this that really make you appreciate immortal life. Don’t you love it, sister? Doesn’t it make you feel alive?”

“Comment number one -- how much do you weigh to snap the bridge like that? I thought you Asians were supposed to be petite and dainty.”

“He’s been here.”

“What? Sarren?”

“No , the boogeman. Look.”

“Sorry, sis. hard to think ... right now. Slight ... stomach-ache.”

“The good news is that the jeep is still where we left it, and I got the damned thing working again.”

“What’s the bad news?” I asked.

“Somebody took my fluffy dice.”

I can’t help it if I like him!!! It’s Julie’s fault.

I don’t trust him as far as I could...errr....well I couldn’t do anything as I am only a lowly bloodbag.

Ezekiel Crosse aka Zeke, do I love this guy or what! He is still such a selfless character, putting everyone before himself, but now he is also tougher. He knows how to go all Commando, and I don’t mean without knickers. The boy, who is still a boy in age... is fierce.

Vengeance is a pill not to be taken on an empty stomach.

Allison and Zeke, can anything be salvaged between them? Can Allison trust herself to keep that humanity within her. Or will she in time, become vampire, like Jackal? All humanity dissolved.

He met my gaze, unwavering. “It wasn’t home without you.”

I really saw this book in my head like a movie. I was familiar with my surroundings as I could see them so clearly. It could be a video game, danger lurking, waiting, around every corner. A virus that needs to be stopped, video game magic.

Salazar, is he friend or foe, or is it again dependent on the opportunity that has arisen?

You really do feel the hopelessness and the want to survive of the humans, the Unregistered, who are trying to survive outside the Princes walls. I felt like I was one of them, living in a time where survival for even a few more hours was very unlikely, too many evils working against them.

I really liked by the end of book 2, I felt very satisfied how far I had come in this series, what I had learned and where Julie was taking me. She really does fill the pages with meaningful words.

The picture Julie paints of her world for us to see is so grim, but at the same time, there is this sliver of hope, hope that keeps me reading to find out more.

This is a really well written series, fast paced, energetic and enthusiastically bloody, lightened with Jackal’s running of his mouth.

Oh yes....and Mr Stephen. Part well played J

Julie is fearless with what she puts her characters through. But as I always say, it ain’t over to the fat lady sings.

“There are no good choices, Allison,”Kanin offered in a quiet voice. “There are only those you can live with, and those you can work to change.”

AWESOME !! MUSICAL INTERVIEW & GIVEAWAYS - BOOKS!!! WITH THE ONE AND ONLY JULIE KAGAWA AUTHOR OF THE IRON FEY SERIES & HER NEW SERIES BLOOD OF EDEN, YES IT'S VAMPIRES!!!

I would like to welcome the mega talented JULIE KAGAWA to Novels On The Run and give her a WHOPPING HUGE THANKYOU for agreeing to answer my Musical Interview Q's and for agreeing to pick the 2 winners in my giveaway below. But you must read this interview to successfully be able to enter the giveaways.

Now I had a bit of a think and I wanted to try something a little different. I usually ask this as a bit of a signature question of mine as part of my interview Q’s when interviewing authors, and it is quite popular, so I thought I would make the whole interview around the music of characters and their relationships. Just to try and bring something a bit different to the table.

I love singing and can't sing to save myself.  I sing like nobody is holding their hands over their ears and I sound like Beyonce...hehe!!  So, I am not asking Julie anything other than the music that best expresses her characters and a special one at the end. ( Loved!! the answer)

LATEST NEWS!!! 23/5/12

The Giveaway below,  Julie Kagawa has actually put this giveaway up on her page....yes I know!!! She liked the contest that much that she is throwing in a paperback, same question to be answered for US/CANADA only entrants. So once you have read and scrolled down to giveaway section of this posting and entered, if you are US/Canada ,pop over to Julie's Page ( click here)  and bung a song down there and you have another chance. Don't put same song  down as that would be a bit odd as Julie is judging this giveaway for Aussie and INTERNATIONAL winners ( same song on both my page and her page won't make sense , she can't choose it twice). US and Canada welcome to enter here as you come under umbrella of International. But you can be in with another chance to win on Julie's page.

Michelle:  Could you please give me the song that expresses to you, the following characters/relationship in The Immortal Rules for each of the following and a little bit of the why?
Allison Sekemoto, Kanin, Zeke, Sarren, Allison & Kanin's friendship, Allison & Zeke's friendship, Allison & Ruth's relationship and Jackal .

 Allison Sekemoto:

Monster by Skillet.

Julie:  Just listen to the lyrics. "I feel it deep within, it's just beneath the skin. I must confess that I feel like a monster. I hate what I've become, the nightmares' just begun. I must confess that I feel like a monster." It perfectly describes Allie's struggle with being a vampire.

 Kanin:

Unknown Soldier by Breaking Benjamin.

Julie: I don't know why, this song just seems to fit Kanin.

Zeke:

Weight of the World by Framing Hanley.

Julie:  Loyal and protective, Zeke is always trying to take the burden away from others, even Allison. Even if it means taking it on himself.

 Sarren:

Sunshine in a Bag by Gorillaz.

Julie: Sarren is slightly crazy and a lot creepy, so this song I felt just fit.

Michelle: Ooo , Yes I do love this for Sarren * nods *

SUNSHINE IN A BAG - GORILLAZ
(Lyrics incase of sing-a-long)

Ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo
I ain't happy, I' m feelin glad
I got sunshine in a bag
I'm useless, but not for long the future is comin' on

I ain't happy, I' m feelin glad
I got sunshine in a bag
I'm useless, but not for long the future is comin' on
is comin' on is comin' on is comin' on is comin' on

(poof)
Yeah, ha ha
Finally someone let me outa' my cage
Now time for me is nothin' cuz I'm countin' no age
Naw I couldn't be there, now you shouldn't be scared
I'm good at repairs (s'all simple), and I'm under each snare
Intangible (aww naw), bet you didn't think so I command you to
Panoramic view (you), look I'll make it all manageable
Pick and choose (hmph), sit and loose, all you different crews
Chicks and dudes, who you think is really kickin' tunes
Picture you gettin down in a picture too, like you lit the fuse
You think it's fictional, mystical, maybe
Spiritual, hear all who appears in you to clear your view when (yeah) your too crazy
Lifeless, to those a definition for what life is
Priceless, to you because I put you on the hype shit
Ya like it
Gun smokin', righteous with one, token psychic among
they'll posess you with one go

I ain't happy, I' m feelin glad
I got sunshine in a bag
I'm useless, but not for long the future is comin' on

I ain't happy, I' m feelin glad
I got sunshine in a bag
I'm useless, but not for long the future (that's right) is comin' on
is comin' on is comin' on is comin' on is comin' on

The essence, the basics
Without it you make it
Allow me to make this childlike in nature
Rythm, you have it or you don't
That's a fallacy
I'm in them
Every sprouting tree, every child apiece
Every cloud at sea
You see with your eyes, I see destruction and demise
Corruption in the skies (that's right)
From this fuckin' enterprise, now I'm sucked into your lies
Through Russ so not his muscles but percussion he provides
With me as a (say what) guide
Y'all can see me now cuz you don't see with you eye
You percieve with your mind
Thats the end (fuck em)
So I'ma stick around with Russ and be a mentor
Bust a few rhymes (bah boom boom boom boom) so mother fuckers remember where the thought is
I brought all this, so you can survive when law is lawless(why here)
Feelings, sensations that you thought was dead (yup)
No squeeling, remember that it's all in your head

I ain't happy, I' m feelin glad
I got sunshine in a bag
I'm useless, but not for long the future is comin' on

I ain't happy, I' m feelin glad
I got sunshine in a bag
I'm useless, but not for long my future is comin' on
is comin' on is comin' on is comin' on is comin' on
My future (future) is comin' on
is comin' on (future future future) is comin' on is comin' on is comin' on
My future is comin' on
is comin' on (future future future) is comin' on is comin' on is comin' on
My future is comin' on
is comin' on is comin' on
My future is comin' on
is comin' on is comin' on (future future future)
My future is comin' on
is comin' on is comin' on
My future

Allison and Kanin’s Friendship:

Julie:  I honestly could not find a good song for Allie and Kanin, though I know there is probably a perfect one out there somewhere. They have such a complex relationship, not really father-daughter, although Kanin is her sire and teaches her everything she needs to know about being a vampire. Possibly their relationship could be classified as mentor-student, but if anyone has the perfect song, I'd love to hear it.

Michelle:  Now because I stumped Julie on this Q, I thought why not have a giveaway and ask the people. Julie has wonderfully accepted the role of judge and will choose 2 winners for this question.   What song best represents Allison and Kanin’s friendship? Keep reading this interview then enter and Julie may choose you? I think she is rather keen to hear what you all think?

 Allison and Zeke’s Friendship:

Awake and Alive by Skillet.

Julie: My favorite Skillet song, this also tells Allie and Zeke's struggle with their faith, their friendship, and coming to terms with what they believe in a world that wants to tear them apart.

Another good one is Arms by Christina Perri, as Allie is always trying to distance herself from Zeke, and yet can't help but fall for him.

 Allison and Ruth:

What is this Feeling? from the Wicked soundtrack.

Julie: Lol, basically this is a song describing how much they loathe each other.

Bahhhahahahhaaa!!
I did laugh when I heard this…….good choice!

Julie: Jackal

Ain't no Rest for the Wicked by Cage the Elephant.

Michelle:  Could you also please tell me the song that would best express Julie Kagawa?

Julie:
 Anything but Ordinary
by Avril Lavigne.

Michelle: I love this!! Wouldn't it be awesome if we could all be brave like this song and just be anything but ordinary?

Michelle:  Thankyou Julie for playing along and giving us some wonderful music that expresses your characters.....and you! We wish you all the best with your writing and any movie deals. I think everybody who reads The Iron Fey series falls in love with it.

And, you are never to old to SquEeeeEeee over Ash ( looks in mirror)

Sentimental Education

Didn't I, Didn't you, Didn't we say…
Didn't I, Didn't you, Didn't we say…
So you walking home from your second job,
and a melody's forming out of sobs
and I want to change but I don't know how
and I want to change but I'm too much who I am now

Oh, Oh, could you feel it?
Could you feel it coming?
Such a sentimental education
You sleep seven streets away from me,
I went to see you,
You were sucking on her neck and didn't see

I know, that you'll carry on
I know this is wrong, this is wrong
I'm going home, home
I'm going home, home
I could feel it,
I did feel it, I did feel it coming
Didn't I?

Haunted - Taylor Swift

Solitary - Skye Edwards

Lyrics

Solitary

You said the thing you said and you twisted me up
I don't feel any different but there it is in my head
Stuck like glue, like a molecule
Like my brain, a speeding train
I'll never be the same
Will we always be the same

You did the thing you did, and it twisted me up
Now I'm wrestling with reality
Waiting for the bell to ring
And you kill me, you still me
Come find me, don't loose me
That is all I want, that is all I want

The sky, the rising sun... Solitary
And you my only one... Solitary

And in the morning when I wash my face
I see happy, I see hired
I see ugly, I see peaceful
I'm waiting, running, I'm not angry or wired
I just get a little worried simetimes

Then I do the things I do, but they still twist me up
I'm wrestling with my sanity
Listening for the bell to ring
And I kill me, I fool me
Can't find me, don't loose me
That is all I want, that is all I want

The sky, the rising sun... Solitary
And you my only only one... Solitary
No time, no end believe... Solitary

You did the thing you did, and it twisted me up
Now I'm wrestling with reality
Waiting for the bell to ring
And you kill me, you still me
Come find me, don't loose me
That is all I want, that is all I want

The sky, the rising sun... Solitary
And you my only one... Solitary
The shore is to the sea... Solitary
And in the end we'll be... Solitary

In a future world, Vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.

Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die… or become one of the monsters.

Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.

Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.

But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle :

The Iron Fey series is a favourite faerie series of mine, by Julie Kagawa. I adore Ash, and Puck is this great bff fun type character. Visually her writing is spectacular, her imagination colourful. Kagawa has travelled a different path with her new series, full of vampires, rabids, gangs, death, raiders, and somewhere amongst the hunger and pain, there is hope. It is a crumb on a map, but even a crumb is better than nothing. Humanity is still fighting for existence.

Allison Sekemoto ( love her name) is a survivor. She has no surviving family. Like all unregistereds, she must fend for herself daily. Daytime is her friend.  She is a scavenger, trying to survive amongst a world that has gone to the vampires and not get caught or die. The night is filled with vampires and rabids, who will attack, tear you to pieces before you can save yourself. If caught out at night, your chance of survival is greatly lowered.

Allison chose to be unregistered. She chose not to be ruled. Wise choice?

To care, is hard. To trust is feared.

Allison and her group look out for each other, they survive together, but survival is hard earned. Sometimes payment is high.

Allison found out the hard way.

I love how this book is split into the different parts of Allison. Kagawa is tough on Allison and her feelings. She makes Allison work to survive. Allison grits her teeth and bears the brunt of a life that she chose, with little choice to begin with.

“You will always be a monster - there is no turning back from it. But what type of monster you become is entirely up to you.”

Sometimes words are more powerful than actions.

Kanin . Love this guy, a quiet strength, with a closet full of skeletons. The rules he teaches swiftly, with a clear understanding, very black or white, no shades of grey.

Kanin’s  words of wisdom ...... will haunt Allison.

A light moment in the book, I thought of Harry Potter when he was choosing his wand , Allison too chose her weapon. I loved this scene, what we covet now, so we don’t forget the past, so we have proof of a life, an existence before our time, is lost to be rediscovered again..... one day.

Ezekiel aka Zeke, is an angel to some, a survivor who learnt no matter how painful the consequences, to listen to his heart, and what it is telling him. All that has been preached to him and his group, is questioned. He is brave beyond his years, a big brother figure, a provider and a fighter.

He is also falling for what he fears.

I loved the scenes with Zeke and Allison. You know as the reader their friendship is a ticking time bomb. I love Ruth, she is a walking countdown widget to the time bomb, always jealous, suspicious, threatening to expose what she does not understand.

The reader is on an ever evolving storyline. It doesn’t lag. We meet groups of people that cross Allison’s path, survival for some, means death for others.

Visually, the writing is running through your mind very clearly. You see it, feel the desperation to survive. You can almost touch the blood, the dirt you are surviving in.

We get pulled into this dark, tough, vampire, dystopian, action, emotional world that has been written for these characters.  The reader becomes a part of it.

Every man for himself.  Power is within the grasp of some who are so desperate for it, they will not hesitate to achieve their ultimate goal.

Kagawa is powerful with her words, grabbing hold of the reader’s emotions.  She gets us to like and loathe characters in the setting of a cruel world she has built for us. She hunts, attacks and slaughters her characters, filling the reader with fear as they turn the pages.

The world building is awesome, fascinating, terrifying. Kagawa drops seeds of story throughout the book that will grow in further sequels.

The villains at every turn get more frightening and creepier. I was gripping the pages in the latter part of the book holding my breath, grabbing onto my ‘oh shit bar’.

Kagawa writes bad ass villains but an even more kickass girl.

Her heart may not beat but just remember......

“You will always be a monster - there is no turning back from it. But what type of monster you become is entirely up to you.”
