Big Thankyou to Karice for sending me the book to read:)

RATING : 4 ATHENS & ANA LOVING STARS!!

Book Blurb : Goodreads

As the magical holiday season is disrupted with an afternoon of horror, it becomes apparent that the Legions have begun their uprising around the globe, and Ana does her best to stay strong even though her world has been shattered. It is up to Ana to find the strength within and not fall prey to the dark side as she begins her chase to reclaim what’s rightfully hers.

Realizing that Ana’s visions alone are not enough to protect them, her family begins her training immediately before she is targeted once more. The Legions will not quit until they get what they want, and they have made it clear that mortals will not be spared, leaving Ana little time to figure out what it is the demons are after.

As Ana balances her time between chasing after her destiny and spending her time relearning how to fight demons, she learns something about her past that could change why she’s fighting for anything at all. Clues continue to unfold in the form of yellowed letters she finds from Athen buried within an old Tudor home; and her future is signaled in a lone, white rose left for only her to see giving her the strength to persevere. She is determined to not give up faith that she will have it all once more.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle :

The one thing I love about Karice’s writing is she really makes you ‘feel’ the love between Athen & Ana. It really does jump off the page how much these two respect and love each other.

The way ‘Awakening’ finished I knew Ana was going to be doing it tough until she could be reunited with Athen. Karice writes the time Ana spends away from Athen until he can be awakened, very heartfelt.

I was mentally trying to hold Ana back from making a mistake that would jeapodise them all getting Athen back , sooner rather than later. I was inwardly yelling, get out of that library.........

I don’t know how I would react if I had to stand by watching somebody I loved, living a day with another, knowing that we were supposed to be together. It would be very hard to hold back knowing you were so close, yet so far.

I would like Athen to be my book boyfriend but he really does only belong to Ana.

Karice’s writing is very ‘clean’ writing , I like to call it. She doesn’t swear and describe sex scenes in detail. She shows you the love through her words. She has a really lovely connection with her characters.

I loved the little twists Karice threw into Legions, they give the story a more sinister direction. We learn more about the Legions who were coming to begin the war, using humans as pawns in their destructive path ,and the why. Making it look like nature was attacking, rather than the evil that was behind it.

Oh, yes, there is a little bombshell dropped there.

I still love the whole white demon idea. I think it is very clever.

If you notice on the cover of Legions there is a white rose, I loved finding that part in the story.

I must say Athen and a Ducati Diavel is a rather nice visual.

Ana is really starting to stand on her own two feet and work out her power mojo, with surprising results.

I love watching her being so feminine and loving around Athen , then ......when she needs to do what she was put on earth for, she becomes this neck snapping demon killer who knows how to slay them down and keep them down.

Cyril , Arie , Athen and Ana are such a great group of characters I enjoy reading about. Something is a little squiffy with one of our crew, so I am looking forward to finding out how that all pans out in ‘Cataclysm’.

Alone in snowy, remote Whistler village, Ana tries to build a new life since losing her parents. With a cozy condo, a sweet-faced bulldog and an evening job to leave the days free for the slopes, life slips into a great routine. If only she could shake the guilt for not remembering anything about her parents and banish the night terrors that haunt her every dream.
On a whim, Ana goes out with Athen, a guy she's just met in the Grizzly Pub... The only problem is that she feels like she already knows him.

Within 48 hours of meeting Athen and his family, Ana's world implodes. She falls for Athen quickly and before she knows it, a past life begins to resurface. As thrilling as the revelations appear at first, she fights against the chilling information that Athen is from the underworld. Soon she begins to struggle as her own supernatural gifts are slowly unveiled, and she realizes that the nightmares she's been having might be premonitions and not dreams at all.
It is up to Ana to decipher between fact and fiction before it is too late, and her new love, Athen, follows in her same fate - one that is lost between two worlds.

Book 2 of The Watchers Trilogy, Legions, is due out December 1st, 2011

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle :

I did not know anything about Awakening before I read it. I now know it is a story about Arie, Cyril, Athen and Ana, white demons, the children of Fallen Angels. It is a story of good demons vs bad demons, in the name of keeping humanity from making bad choices.

I loved the setting, the snow town of Whistler. We start this story with Ana , who works at the Grizzly Bear Lodge as a server. The beautiful couple Arie and Cyril are sitting in her area, an instant feeling hits her upon looking at them , she is not sure what she is feeling.

Enter Athen, The Gorgeous , the brother of Arie, and this story takes off with the title of this book being, ‘Awakening’. Ana is going through an Awakening.

I loved Arie and Cyril, they are so loving, and Athen is so patient . I appreciated Karice giving Ana information at a pace that the reader could handle too. There is quite a depth to Ana and Athen’s life.

In saying that, sometimes I felt too much time may have been spent with the more mundane things in their lives. Shopping , eating out....I get that the baddies would surface and we would learn about ‘posers’ and the lesser minion baddies, but sometimes I thought the story could have been speeded up. I felt that Cyril and Athen handled things too easily sometimes, I would have liked a bit more action .

I loved how caring and protective Arie, Cyril and Athen are with Ana. This is a great group of characters. As the reader you really feel the love Athen has for Ana.

There is a mystery involving missing hikers and a snowboarder that weaves itself in the background of Ana’s awakening.

I am interested to meet head baddies Azazel and Asmodeus and ‘Serpent Eyes’ more, hopefully in ‘Legions’. The title of book 2, has meaning in this book.

A nice couple twists are thrown into the storyline that I didn’t see coming, which is always nice and an ending that will have you grabbing for ‘Legions’.

Matilda is a cutey and a faithful friend. I enjoyed ‘Awakening’ and look forward to reading more about this ‘family’ of white demons. I liked the whole concept of the white demon, I thought it was very clever and original.

I would love to read these in paperback , the covers are gorgeous, as I found the digital format on my ereader a tad annoying to read as I had to zoom in to maximum and I was forever scrolling the page.

Excerpt - Cataclysm

Athen and Cyril were in similar circumstances elsewhere in the city. They were recording more events to share with everyone so that we could prepare for our fight better. I had to remind myself that this was for the greater good.

It truly tore at my soul knowing that these less than brilliant humans were about to turn over every precious fiber of their mortality to the dark side. They had no idea. Maybe it was better that way, for their sake.

Arie leaned against the wall next to me. She wore a pair of black leggings and a stylish oversized black shirt with her favorite pair of red stilettos, whereas I only managed to throw on the outfit from the girl who I had the shapeshifting accident on. Her clothes were the closest items in my closet that seemed fitting for tonight’s escapades.

“Do you think he will show tonight?” I channeled to Arie.

“Only if we’re lucky,” she replied sarcastically.

I suddenly felt as if my worlds were colliding. I didn’t want to be a witness to this type of mortal depravity, but I needed to see it to understand how to win the battles that lay before us. I was so torn inside. It was like a bad accident that we all tell ourselves not to look at, and yet, we bought front-row seats. I only hoped none of the evil would penetrate me.

The music turned to silence. The heavy beats and faulty euphoria were immediately emptied out of the room. The worry began spreading that these humans might figure us out.

“Are we gonna be found out?” I asked Arie through our wavelength.

“No, not to worry. They are all far too focused on what is about to take place.”

The humans were coming from everywhere like a rodent infestation. They were scattering through the hallways and corridors we passed through to get to this room. They all began huddling around the sacrificial being they didn’t seem to think twice about. Maybe since they weren’t killing her in the normal sense, it made it no big deal to them. My stomach began stirring a viscous nausea at the thought of witnessing this event.

The chanting began as the unassuming lamb began squirming on the cold surface slowly, realizing what everything meant. Her consciousness only returned to a state just enough below sanity, to not fully recognize what was about to occur. The beings clamoring for a chance to be the next victim became overwhelming.

The chanting quieted as a darkness spilled over the room, and all the candles were extinguished, and the air was sucked out of the pseudo dungeon.

Asmodeus arrived.

Not expecting this, I looked over at Arie for some sort of guidance.  Rather than her calm eyes, I saw a fear like never before. We were in over our heads, and there was no escape.

“What… do we…,” I uttered.
