BOOK REVIEW - HEART OF DARKNESS by LAUREN DANE - BOUND BY MAGICK # 1 - BERKLEY

By: Lauren Dane
Published By: Berkley
Released : Available Now
Details: Paperback From Library, 276 Pages

RATING: 4.25 ALPHA DOMINIC STARS!!

Blurb: Goodreads

From national bestselling author Lauren Dane comes a white-hot new series of a dangerous family legacy, and sensual paranormal passions played to the death on the knife-edge of darkness…

Meriel Owen, next in line to control the largest organization of witches in the country, is asked to investigate the owner of a notorious club reportedly siphoning magic from the font of the Clan. It’s a direct violation of the Clan Code of Conduct, but one look at Dominic Bright and Meriel’s willing to make a deal. One taste of the sexually feral outlaw witch, and she’s eager to go further: he’s her bond mate, a legal conduit into the world of Clan witches and their magic.

Playing by the rules isn’t Dominic’s style, but bonding with Meriel—night after explosive night—is. However, Meriel has unwittingly invited someone else into her world: Dominic’s mother, a dangerous and poisonously influential magic addict whose lust for death and power corrupts all she touches. Now her shadow is closing in on Meriel, her Clan, and the man Meriel loves, and it’s casting them all into the inescapable heart of darkness.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

I liked this witch vs mages book quite a lot. Heart of Darkness is a quick read, in saying that, I did have to grab on to my concentration handles tightly with the first few chapters and the world building. We are given a lot of info and I had to slow it down to absorb the ‘what’ of everything.

In a nutshell, Meriel Owen is next in line to Clan Owen. They are the witches who are keeping their territory well policed and hidden from humans.

There are Hunters, who track down and ‘sort out’ the wannabe baddies. Nell and Gage are great sub characters, this is their role. Nell is also an awesome friend to Meriel. She brings out Meriel’s more girlier side.

There are other clans of witches, but Clan Owen is the topic of this story. Edwina is head witch and she is Meriel’s mother. I was not sure how to take Edwina at first as Meriel seemed to like to stay out of her way, but I dig Edwina. She has a big job , a serious job that needs a serious attitude.

There are bond mates. You don’t have to have a sexual relationship with a bond mate. You will know when you and your bond mate cross paths.

Dominic Bright happens to be being a naughty boy and getting himself some free Owen magick for his club. Meriel decides to go and sort out Mr Bright for his wrongs and finds herself a bond mate.

Dominic is ALL ALPHA male. I love this guy. He is smart and street wise, he also has a gorgeous buddy named Simon Leviathan who happens to be a Lycion, a Were. Simon is a great character. He knows how to talk to Dominic.

“You’re being a grumpy fuck, who is going to have my fist in his eye in about five seconds.” Simon growled at Dominic from across the table.

Dominic slumped , looking around for the eighth-millionth time, hoping to see Muriel and then remembering she was gone. And then he’d start missing her again. Even more than he had an hour before.

His friend looked around and then shook his head. “Get your head out of your ass. Damn it, Dominic. You are one of the smartest guys I know. Street smarts, business smarts. You are a survivor for a reason and that’s because you are fearless when it comes to the truth.”

Now we come to the villains of the story, the mages who are human gain their energies through rites witches condemn. They steal the magick. Mages need blood magick to survive. Mages are killing witches and this is seriously pissing off Clan Owen.

Stuck witches are turned witches. A witch who has become addicted to stolen magick. Their own magick becomes severed from the rituals they used to gain the stolen magick. To be stripped of your own magick eventually starves a witch and they will die.

Meriel is a character that grew on me. She is bold and sassy and is well matched for Dominic Bright. I love her attitude towards Dominic. She wants to pounce , but she holds herself at a distance which only intensifies what they feel between them. Dominic was raised differently. He doesn’t like to play by the rules so she has to show him that there is nothing to fear from being accepted into a Clan. There is only much to gain.

I loved watching Dom work his feelings out for Meriel. He knows she can handle herself and that doesn’t sit well with him. He wants to be her hero, her protector.

By the time he hit the sidewalk outside she was already making her way up the block.

She waved to him like it was totally normal to scare the shit out of him on a daily basis.

“Why are you smiling?”Annoyed, he turned away and escorted her home.

“Because you’re ridiculously hot when you get protective.”

Dominic has some tough decisions to make. His foster father Tom, is a brilliant character. Love him to bits. Tough but fair. It would have been fun growing up with him, in a guy way. All the outdoors activities and firm hand that only later in life did Dominic appreciate. It helped shape the man he became.

He wanted to show her off, he could admit it, at least in his head. He wanted to present her to Tom and have Tom see what an amazing woman he’d fallen for. Wanted Tom to approve of how he’d made his life better.

A quick sexy read with sub characters you want to get to know more. Simon is next in his book, Chaos Burning. I am looking forward to it.

Rawrrrr.

BOOK REVIEW - SACRIFICE THE WICKED by KARINA COOPER - DARK MISSION # 4 - AVON BOOKS - 4.5 SMEXI SIMON STARS!

By: Karina Cooper
Published By: Avon Books
Released : Available Now
Details : Paperback from Library, 375 Pages

RATING : 4.5 SMEXI SIMON STARS!!

Blurb: Goodreads

Parker Adams has always done what’s expected of her . . . until a double agent with nothing to lose ignites a passion she doesn’t dare give in to.

Mission Agent Simon Wells is everything Parker Adams has been trained to fight: manipulator, murderer, spy… witch. But for her, what makes Simon most dangerous is his mesmerizing sexual magnetism, powerful enough to tempt even the famed ice queen of the Mission. Though she knows better, each encounter with the deceptive agent leaves her craving more.

Simon isn’t a man to let go of what’s his, and his pursuit forces Parker, a woman he can’t get out from under his skin, to make a stand that could destroy her. If they can work together, they might survive the politics that have enslaved their devastated world—or fall victim to the pitfalls of desperation, bone-deep mistrust, and a hunger that threatens to consume them.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

Location, topside, New Seattle, and is the proverbial poop flying about in this installment.

Mission Agent Simon Wells, and Director Parker Adams, as Parker must keep reminding Mr Wells, she is the Director, he is the Agent, are getting themselves in and out of a pile of doo doo continuously in this installment.

Fast paced scenes with some time out for Simon to get a tumble between the sheets with the straight laced, by the book, Parker.

That book is getting thrown in the shredder.

Simon is rewriting it.

Corrupt agents, who does Parker trust? Can she, should she, place her trust in Agent Wells? Does she have a choice?

Parker has to dig deep and decide does she go with her gut feeling and trust nobody, not even her own people? Things are not adding up. There is a political game being played and she aims to find out who the players are.

But she can’t do it alone.

Parker didn’t figure into Simon’s big picture. She was a means to get what he needed done. He is dying like all the witches. He needs answers and quick. He has selfish motives, but then he can’t seem to get Parker Adams out of his heart, out of danger, out of his bed, out of his mind.

Back to the drawing board.

Parker is in trouble, up to her eyeballs. Simon is playing on two teams. Parker does not like what she is uncovering and the powers above want her snooping stopped.

Permanently.

Kayleigh is finding her world turned upside down. Who does she trust? Something isn’t feeling right. But her father would not lie to her....would he?

The witches are just subjects, nothing more.

Aren’t they?

I like Danny, I hope he gets a bigger role in future installments. There was something very engaging about the guy.

Jonas...sweet Jonas.... Karina you had me worried. Don’t do that to me! Not nice!

Executions, corrupt team members, loyal friends who had been tucked into the background coming into play, new friends, political terminations, dying witches, lust, and fast paced action makes this series very intriguing to read.

Book 1 to book 4, so much has changed, been uncovered. Who is loyal, who is trustworthy? Can the remaining witches be saved from a horrible death..... or an execution?

What is worse?

Who is 100% batting for good and who is only appearing to bat for good?

I think you will be surprised!

If you enjoy Stacia Kane’s Downside Ghost series, I think you would enjoy this series.

I just happened to get an email showing me a novella, just after I wrote this review.

Bouncy. Bouncy.

Now I get Jona’s novella...Woot!! Wicked Lies # 4.5 .....and ummmm....from the blurb, me thinks it may be Team Jonny J

I did a double take!

* waggles eyebrows*

Bring . It. On!

BOOK REVIEW - ALL THINGS WICKED by KARIINA COOPER - DARK MISSION # 3 - AVON BOOKS - 4.5 SECRETS REVEALED STARS!!

By : Karina Cooper
Published By: Avon Books
Released : Available Now
Details : Paperback from library,

RATING: 4.5 OMG!!! SECRETS REVEALED STARS!!

Blurb : Goodreads

Juliet Carpenter thought of the coven as family, but when she falls for a man who betrays them all, she's left alone and desperately searching for a reason why. Caleb Leigh has spent the past year in hiding, unable to escape his demons. When Juliet finds him again, her need for vengeance clashes with the hunger still burning between them.

It's a fight born from the embers of a half-forgotten attraction and the wounds of a past too raw to ignore. With enemies circling and secrets threatening to consume them, Caleb has no choice but to fulfill a promise made long ago--protect her, save her. Even if it costs him his blood, his body . . . and what's left of his mind.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

Loved this instalment! What I find so intriguing with this series is all the bed hopping from The Church to the Witch’s side of the fence.

Caleb Leigh, Jessie’s brother, I am still unsure of his rather evil in appearance behavior in ‘Blood Of The Wicked’. I mean the dude appeared to want to harm his sister......now I am unsure if he is this dark , evil witch, or was there a plan that had some goodness in the outcome from all this nasty ritual killing.

So much more comes to light, but is it going towards redeeming Caleb, in my eyes....I am still not sure. I know he loves his sister, but there was some pretty horrific rituals going on in book #1.

Juliet Carpenter and Caleb have history. It is history that both are fighting to forget.

Juliet becomes the centre of attention for the ...... well, are they bad guys or good guys or a combination.

Caleb knows how to get his smexi on, but Silas is still my fave.

This book was very exciting , boy, did some dirt get turned over. Lordy there are some corrupt people in authority, working behind the scenes.

Juliet has a good heart. Caleb.....is his heart too blackened by what he has had to do? The promises he has had to make. Keep.

It took me a while to click , but there was a rather interesting thing with Caleb.

Jonas Stone, I just love his loyalty. He is one of those that makes up his own mind who to stay more loyal to. He is very intelligent and keeps in contact with those who have jumped ship. He knows there is some shit being flung about. He also knows and remembers who his friends are, no matter what side of the fence they sit on.

I got told by somebody to watch out for Simon.

.......Enter Simon.

The other man didn’t wait for an introduction. He slid into one of two chairs arrayed in front of Parker’s borrowed desk, kicking one ankle up over his knee in easy comfort. “I’m Simon Wells,” he offered, tipping an imaginary hat. His brown hair was longer, the same shade as the coffee-coloured desk between them. His eyes twinkled at her, an odd mix of green and brown, and his lips curved into an engaging smile that she didn’t return.

Flirt. She knew the type.

Simon Wells lounged in the frame, fingertips caught loosely on the upper ledge and muscles idly bulging. His blue tank top sported a vee of sweat, his hair damp against his forehead. Work-out pants slung low on his hips, button-down legs open at the bottom to fall over trashed sneakers.

The pose showed off every mouthwatering muscle in his arms and shoulders, and the smile shaping his mouth could only be called easy. Indolent.

This book is very gritty and tough on its characters. We go back into the bowels of Old Seattle. New Seattle can make you almost forget that the world has changed. There is a facade of normality. The witches and missionaries know what is lurking under this facade.

Power breeds evil.

I can’t wait to read more about Simon. He gets book # 4, Sacrifice The Wicked.

BOOK REVIEW - NO REST FOR THE WITCHES by KARINA COOPER - DARK MISSION # 2.5 - NOVELLA

By: Karina Cooper
Published By: Avon Books
Released : Available Now
Details: Digital, Amazon , 100 Pages

RATING: 4 SILAS STARS!!

Blurb : Goodreads

New Seattle is changing. Witches and witch hunters have become allies, and the Order's grip on the city is slipping. But they won't go down without a fight...

After the disastrous end to their last mission, Jessie, Silas, and Naomi regroup at their sanctuary far beneath New Seattle. But their brief rest is shattered when Jessie "sees" two of their own attacked topside. Dodging bullets and black magic, they risk it all on a treacherous rescue mission. Already stretched to the limit, danger waits in unexpected corners. If the Holy Order finds them, the team is as good as dead. But they can't hide forever..

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

This was a great novella, a little bridge between Lure of the Wicked #2 and All Things Wicked #3. I do recommend not skipping over this book. It is around 100 pages so it is a reasonable sized novella.

What did I like about this book? I liked Silas and Naomi . Silas’s heart is taken by Jessie, but Naomi is special to him too. You can tell they have that working, growing up history. He knows how to talk to her.

I love Jessie and Silas as a couple. Jessie has such a good heart. She just wants to help and she is pushing herself to the extreme, dangerous extreme.

I loved watching Naomi reluctantly accept the new power she possesses and being in a slightly uncomfortable place where she is healing and helping a witch , rather than being a killing machine. Not a natural reaction for her.

Naomi is at odds handling the man she loves and not really liking that she needs someone. She cares about Phin’s mum and she has these new emotions running through her that are foreign to her. Her hard exterior is being tampered with, by love.

I am watching Matilda’s home slowly filling up with new faces, the Church and the witches are slowly finding each other and I wouldn’t be surprised that Matilda see’s it all coming before it happens. She seems very relaxed about ex Missionaries landing in her secret hideaway and falling for witches or witch sympathisers.

Naomi and Phin have a complicated relationship because Naomi is still coming to terms with all the change in her life. I enjoyed this novella as there was more to say. One book was not enough for Naomi and Phin, they still had more emotional rubble to sort through.

All in all it was a great read I enjoyed. I love reading about Silas, he is just gorgeous and has a good heart underneath all that muscle and man.

This is a really good series that I am totally invested in reading to the end. Somebody on facebook told me about a character that beats Silas, in her book. I was like , do tell. Well, that would be Simon. I am now reading 'All Things Wicked', and guess who is all smexi and manly and bats for the opposing team , who is a missionary...... Simon. Giddy up!

BOOK REVIEW - BLOOD OF THE WICKED by KARINA COOPER - DARK MISSION # 1 - AVON - HARPER COLLINS - 4.25 HOT SILAS STARS!!

By: Karina Cooper
Published By : Avon, Harper Collins
Released : Available Now
Details: Paperback from library , 348 Pages

RATING: 4.25 HOT SILAS STARS!!

Blurb: Goodreads

When the world went straight to hell, humanity needed a scapegoat to judge, to blame . . . to burn.

As an independent witch living off the grid, Jessie Leigh has spent her life running, trying to blend in among the faceless drudges in the rebuilt city. She thought she was finally safe, but now she's been found in a New Seattle strip club—by a hard-eyed man on a mission to destroy her kind.

A soldier of the Holy Order, Silas Smith believes in the cause: trawling the fringes of society for the murderous witches who threaten what's left of the world. Forced into a twisting web of half-truths and lies, he has to stay close to the most sensuous and electrifying woman he has ever seen and manipulate her into leading him to the he witch he has to kill: her brother. Silas doesn't know that Jessie's his enemy, only that he wants her, needs her, even as he lies to her... and must protect her until his final breath.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

Jessie and Caleb Leigh are both witches. Jessie hasn’t seen her brother in a long time, after he took off, abandoned her. He is blocking her so she can’t find him. She lives a nomadic life, changing jobs and places to stay one step ahead of the all too present danger that awaits her kind.

Silas Smith, soldier, packing muscle , works for the Holy Order. He is a missionary.

A witch hunter.

He ALWAYS gets his witch.

Caleb is the witch he is after, but to get to Caleb he needs Jessie. Jessie has stayed under his witch radar for some reason. She isn’t suspected.

Silas Smith is all soldier, he is on a mission to retrieve Caleb and to kill witches. Bodies are turning up of females, ritually slaughtered.

Has Caleb turned to the dark side? Is he behind these killings?

There is something about Jessie, Silas can’t resist. He badly wants to resist. He is all anger and grit, packed into a hard bod.

When his anger starts to sizzle....* waggles eyebrows * ...it is hot!

New Seattle is built above Old Seattle. Scrapers made of metal and glass. Built atop the underground, buried ruins, of the original Seattle, where danger lurks and villains kill.

Survival is hard.

Jessie works the strip clubs...... strictly bartending.

I really like Matilda. Can they keep her secret? Will Silas keep her secret?

Josh shows us the Silas that can’t forgive himself. Where some of his ..err... hardened attitude comes from. I like Josh, he is a cool dude and makes no excuses, holds no grudges.

Naomi, the jury is still out on her, for me. She is a good soldier, maybe to good to see the corrupt, the evil that is lurking below the surface.

Power is an addictive , consuming thing, to some.

This is a high octane read. Fast paced. Gritty. Smexi. A world that is unforgiving and brutal if you are a witch. A world that is just hard to survive if you are a human. The world has changed, it is darker and it just got a whole lot more dangerous.

This book was a gritty romp in Urban Fantasy that I really enjoyed.

BOOK REVIEW - EARTH by SHAUNA GRANGER - ELEMENTAL # 1

By: Shauna Granger
Published By : Self Pub
Released : Available Now
Details : Digital , 230 Pages

RATING: 4 JENSEN STARS!

Book Blurb : Goodreads

Shayna and her two best friends have the abilities to manipulate and control the four elements, earth, air, water and fire. While learning to hone their growing powers, they discover a new and malicious presence in their sleepy beach town. Someone is performing blood magic and threatens to expose their small magical community. So far only small animals have been slaughtered, but then the nightmares start.

Shayna suffers nightmares of being chased and sacrificed only to wake up bloodied and bruised. She thinks her magical blood is the ultimate target for the final blood rite. When an innocent girl, Tracy, is kidnapped Shayna knows it's only a ploy to draw her out; she can't let someone die because of her.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle :

Shayna aka Shay, Jodi and Steven are Elemental’s. They have nicknames for each other. Terra = Shay as she is an Earth Mother. Fae = Jodi as she is an Air Elemental. Drake = Steven , who is Fire. There is a water Elemental, but we don’t meet this character.

Steven is fun, witty and oh so snappy with the makeup touch up, when a girl needs a little touch up in her day. Jodi isn’t as fun as Steven and Shayna appears to be like their leader. They can speak to each other in their heads. Love a bit of Jedi mojo.

The story has this group of three wanting to cast a spell, call forward a Guardian Angel to find the one guy that will treat their friend Tracy right. Tracy is in an abusive relationship with Nick, who is more than a jerk. He leaves bruises and hurts Tracy, but she is too weak to give this fool the flick. I know what I would be doing. He would firstly get a ‘stinky dead fish slap ‘ from me then.....

The story detours a bit from their plan as a set of twins arrive at their school , Ian and Jensen. Ian lays Nick out on the pavement , giving him a taste of his medicine back. We all know medicine doesn’t taste nice.

Meanwhile, Shay is having nightmares and waking up injured from them. She is seeing Jensen in her dreams. Animals are being sacrificed in the woods, which is looking like the wrong kind of magic, by the wrong kind of person, so a little mystery takes off in that direction.

We begin to wonder if Ian and Jensen are involved. Is the gorgeous Jensen a baddie?  I picked up they weren’t identical twins? Maybe I got that bit upside down. Shay always seemed to be able to tell them apart easily enough.

Jensen and Ian are a bit mysterious and we see Jensen popping up where Shay is and letting her know he knows what she is. Poor Mike didn’t stand a chance. Awww, Mike was sweet.

The plot thickens and gets a bit darker with what the bad guy or guys are up to.

Shay takes it into her own hands to pull a Nancy Drew and get more information, she gets a bit too close to the source.

We have guardian angels, mystery, a Grimoire ( sounds like a creature but it is a Book of Shadows) , witches, hooded robed man, runes, some action scenes, dreams, sacrifices, light on the romance, and a cousin named........ and...... who knew Steven could look so smexi in his ...........

I enjoyed this first instalment in the Elemental series and look forward to reading Air and reading more about Team Jensen. But, is he a good boy or a bad boy?

BLOG TOUR # 8 - BOOK REVIEW - DECEIVED by STEPHANIE NELSON - GWEN SPARKS # 2

By: Stephanie Nelson
Published By: Stephanie Nelson
Released : 21st December 2011
Details: Digital Book, 152 Pages

Book Blurb : Taken From Goodreads

The vampire drug, brew, nearly ruined Gwen Sparks’ life. Just when things started to get back to normal between her and Aiden, she is summoned by the North American Witches Council to their central city of Moon. A war is imminent between vampires and witches, and Gwen’s experiences with brew are being used to fuel the fire. She is about to discover just how powerful she is with the help of the ruggedly handsome Angel of Death and just how far some people will go to get what they want. Gwen is going to learn exactly what it means to be Deceived.

BOOK REVIEW:
Dorian Hade..... and that is all I really need to say.....nah just kidding I can say more. Well, if Dorian didn’t swoop in and steal my heart?
I must have a thing for reapers, I am Team Tod in the Soul Screamers series and I am waving Dorian’s flag like a fan girl. I LOVE the way Stephanie writes this guy. I love the angst and the tense moments. I really enjoy the moments Gwen and Dorian are together as it’s not about bonking, it’s much more. Gwen and Dorian just ‘feel’ suited.
Aiden , I love your uber smexi wham bam moments, I’m not complaining about the bonking , but I am having trouble still, finding some depth with his character. He ticks all the boxes of gorgeous guy, but I want more. I did learn a thing or two about the humble ice cube........yowzer! See, who needs to visit the adult shop and buy expensive things?

Nobody answer that..ha!
Dorian is deliciously laid out on a silver platter for me, I think all boxes are ticked even though he hasn’t christened/checked that *&^......look I was going to say it,  but that would be a terrible pun to use.
Oh the back stabbing that goes on...deary me, who can Gwen trust?
Gwen is off to ‘Moon’, no not the moon or to moon somebody....hehe!! I couldn’t help myself, sorry, but to a place called Moon, to train and learn her witchy ways. She is after all,  the person needed to end the war that is brewing ( sorry I couldn’t help myself) between Vampires and Witches, because of ...well some Brew that was brewed. ( sometimes Michelle you can use one too many puns) I don’t think I personally ‘felt’ the whole danger of the war. I felt the danger of Dorian and Gwen getting it on.
Ian , is being Ian and using his mind mojo/bond to do some quite over the line things to Gwen. It was a tad uncomfortable reading those bits, as it was a tad over the line.
I did enjoy the slew of new sub characters that came our way. Some of the sub characters from ‘Craved’ just dropped away. I would put that down to being no longer in Flora, but now Moon.
Stephanie throws in a twist or two in this book, which I liked and a few spanners are thrown into the works...* waggles eyebrows *
Fiona is being a tad distant and I am not sure why?
There are secrets that Dorian and Kye are especially keeping close to their heart. No we don’t know what they are, maybe ‘Coveted’ will enlighten me.
Speaking of ‘Coveted’, I am really looking forward to more Dorian, and seeing where Stephanie takes the storyline.
Another easy, fun read with uber smexi, gorgeous lads, betrayal, back stabbing, murder and mayhem, lust and tension.

I still want a wonderful publisher to grab hold of this series with two hands, pass it on to a super editor to wrap their arms around it and give it a cuddle.

At the end of this digital book , there was a short excerpt for Stephanies new series, ‘Anna Avery Series’, titled , ‘Taming The Wolf’. I just want to say how awesome the cover is. If you keep looking you see more things. Stephanie has very, very nice covers to her books. I am looking forward to reading this book.

STEPHANIE NELSON
Unlike a lot of authors, Stephanie Nelson didn't dream of becoming an author. It wasn't until she jumped on the bandwagon and read about the sparkly vampire, that she fell in love with the paranormal genre. Books quickly became her addiction and the bookstore her favorite place to visit. Devouring one book after another, a story began to form in her head. Ignoring the characters that seemed to speak to her didn't work. Eventually she gave in, and began to write. After countless attempts of starting and trashing stories, Stephanie gave up. A year later, she found herself sitting in front of her computer again and made a promise to herself that she would finish a full length book. Seven months later her first book, Craved was published and ended up reaching #1 on Amazon's bestsellers list and #6 on the Barnes & Noble bestsellers list.

While she's not writing about a new adventure, Stephanie enjoys watching movies, spending time with her family and traveling. She resides in the Midwest with her husband and furry children.

BOOK EXCERPT

Teaser Excerpt 1:
I quietly grumbled. I knew he was right, I should learn who I really was. A small part of me was afraid to though. Reading the memories of the dead was creepy enough, but at least I was helping people when I did it. Dorian wanting me to connect with the darkness just to learn it scared me. Kye’s insane sister flashed in my mind and gave me enough reason to want to study to be a spirit walker. I didn't know why she had gone insane, but I didn't want to end up like her. “Alright, teach me, old wise one.” My sarcasm tended to show itself when I was scared or pissed, at the moment I was a little bit of both.
“Close your eyes.” Dorian instructed, ignoring my cynicism. My eyes snapped shut, and I waited for him to tell me what to do next. I heard the squeak of vinyl, and his body press along the side of me. Dorian slipped his hand underneath mine and made me to jump.  “Keep your eyes closed.” I did as told, but my heart beat faster at our closeness. It seemed too intimate for a lesson.
Teaser Excerpt 2:
Once our skin made contact, the air grew thicker around us. I could feel the weight of it pushing against the entirety of my body. I watched as it took on a gray tint, molding against Dorian and me. My fingers clutched his hand tight as my eyes strained to see past the darkening air. Cold replaced the warmth of the day, causing a shiver to tremble through my bones. My teeth rattled against each other, my muscles constricting from the change in temperature. A slight breeze blew against my face, causing my eyes to water. I hung my head and closed my eyes to stop the singing sensation of the wind.
“Open your eyes, Gwen,” Dorian said, but to me it sounded distant and distorted like a dream. I worked on controlling my breathing and calming my heartbeat before I worried about anything else. After a handful of deep breaths and I was satisfied I wouldn’t have a heart attack, I peeked at my surrounding through one eye. The daylight had disappeared and been replaced with gloom. Lifting my head, I opened both eyes and realized I wasn’t in Kansas anymore. Dorian and I were still in the graveyard, but not in our reality—in the realm of the dead. Everything was washed in varying shades of gray and black. Shadows clung to everything and the warmth of the sun was replaced with the icy coldness of death.
Teaser Excerpt 3 :

He regarded me with a look I’d seen a few other times, an expression I tried to ignore, but at the moment, I couldn’t look away from. I was a woman who noticed attractive men, but I would never act on those feelings. I loved Aiden as sure as the night is long. But Dorian stirred something deep inside of me, and we connected on a level I hadn’t with Aiden. It wasn’t easy to ignore something that profound, especially when it was staring at me like I was the sexiest girl in the world.

Dorian took a step forward. His arms hung limp, but I could tell he was nervous about what was happening between us. The tightness in his jaw and triceps betrayed the cool confidence he was trying to portray. An inch of icy air separated us. I lifted my eyes to his, and we stared at each other. No words were needed; our body language spoke for us. Dorian brought his arm up and with the back of his hand caressed the side of my face with more gentleness than I imagined. My eyes closed against the feel of it. A shuffle of feet enticed my eyes open just in time to see Dorian bending forward and toward my eager lips.

BOOK REVIEW - CRAVED by STEPHANIE NELSON - GWEN SPARKS # 1

THE COVER GIRL I THINK
REPRESENTS GWEN VERY WELL.
By: Stephanie Nelson
Published By : Self Published
Released : Available Now
Details : Digital Book, 263 Pages

Book Blurb : Taken From Goodreads

WITCH FOUND DRAINED
Gwen Sparks just wants to live a peaceful life in the supernatural town of Flora, but from the moment she read about the first murdered witch, all hope of peace was abandoned. Possessing the rare ability to read the memories of dead, she volunteers to help catch the culprit behind the string of drained witches. Gwen has to team up with the one man who broke her heart, deal with a ghost who pulls her into the deathly realm at will, and a fight off the advances of sexy but frustrating vampire who not only craves what runs through her veins—he wants her heart.

BOOK REVIEW:
Stephanie Nelson has fun with her debut novel, ‘Craved’ the first book in her Gwen Sparks series. Sure there were a few writing issues, but I am going to overlook them. Just innocent little things that didn’t stop the book being fun, but things the reader picks up on. I think being consistent with her characters witch powers and following them through would be an example. I enjoyed the storyline Stephanie fed to us and look forward to seeing where she takes us in ‘Deceived’.
We first meet the persistent 6 foot vampire, Aiden Blake, body of a swimmer with jet black hair, in Gwen’s potions and enchantments shop, aptly titled ‘Broomsticks’.
Aiden, has known Gwen for a couple years and has been patiently waiting for her to be ‘mine’. If all else fails let those knickers be ripped to shreds to seal the deal.....errr I am getting a little ahead of myself....rewind.
Aiden wants Gwen but she is all hung up and sad and emotionally broken over Micah, her ex Wolf beau who is also a Detective with the FPD = Flora Police Department.
Micah, I love his character. He is a bit of a mixed up cookie with his love for Gwen, wanting his cake and eating it. I did however like how his character was written.
Gwen volunteers herself to help both Micah and Wyatt (the brother of Micah and next in line to be Alpha of the pack and also a rather dishy chappy...errr wolf) using her witchy mojo and her pussy cat, Aura.  Gwen’s cat gives her the extra oomph she needs to use her witch mojo to see the last moments/memories of the witches who are turning up dead, hoping to get a look at the killer through the eyes of the deceased.
Witches are being drained of their blood, it is being sold under the name ‘Brew’ a drug that gets young vampires high. I really liked the whole ‘Brew’ idea.
The one murder she should have grabbed her pussy cat and worked her mojo , she didn’t, I was rather puzzled by this as this person meant a lot to Gwen.
I think as the reader we have to also overlook some of the naivity of Gwen’s character. Gwen finds love in Aiden , yet he went MIA for a while and that was kind of overlooked. The guy did go to a lot of smoozing effort with flowers and a dress and an invitation, then, did a no show. Having Ian as stand in, was a bit dodgy as far as plot. Aiden pulled out all the stops and then did not make an appearance. I would have been looking for him asap!
I did like Aiden but sometimes I thought he could have been written better and with more emotion. Hot smexi is..well...hot, but it needs to be in context. I like to believe in the hunk of a man that is presented to me on a silver platter.
When Ian turns up out of the blue, you can’t help being suspicious, because, well, he turned up out of the blue with certain claims. Again I couldn’t help feeling Gwen was a little naive here.
Now,  onto the knickers......
Oh let the knickers fly in this book..hehe!! Gwen, aided by Aiden her now, vampire boyfriend, had an assortment of knickers ripped off her booty rather exuberantly.
If you want some hot smexi, at the most funnily timed moments...lol!!! This book caters very nicely.  Hey I am not complaining...the stake out I think was the funniest , when opportunity knocks...well , hey , why not  make ourselves some busy time, as really, stake outs are a tad boring.
This was a fun, smexi debut novel for Stephanie with murder, mystery, exploding knickers ( well tearing, ripping off....) ex love, new love, inbetween love, great sub characters, vampires, witches, hot lads ( the more the merrier) and a thing or two Gwen finds out about herself.
I am about to crack open ‘Deceived’ and see where Stephanie takes the handsome lads and the witches of Flora.

BOOK REVIEW - BORN WICKED by JESSICA SPOTSWOOD - THE CAHILL CHRONICLES # 1

By: Jessica Spotswood
Published By : Razor Bill, Penguin
Released : 24th January 2012
Details: Paperback, 330 Pages

RATING: 4.25 FINN STARS!

Book Blurb : Taken From Goodreads

A Great and Terrible Beauty meets Cassandra Clare in this spellbinding fantasy .

Everybody knows Cate Cahill and her sisters are eccentric. Too pretty, too reclusive, and far too educated for their own good. But the truth is even worse: they're witches. And if their secret is discovered by the priests of the Brotherhood, it would mean an asylum, a prison ship—or an early grave.

Before her mother died, Cate promised to protect her sisters. But with only six months left to choose between marriage and the Sisterhood, she might not be able to keep her word . . . especially after she finds her mother's diary, uncovering a secret that could spell her family's destruction. Desperate to find alternatives to their fate, Cate starts scouring banned books and questioning rebellious new friends, all while juggling tea parties, shocking marriage proposals, and a forbidden romance with the completely unsuitable Finn Belastra.

If what her mother wrote is true, the Cahill girls aren't safe. Not from the Brotherhood, the Sisterhood—not even from each other.

BOOK REVIEW:

I loved this book. I’m going to be honest and say that it was a little slow the storyline for the first 100 pages or maybe a little more.....but now....I can’t wait for book 2.

This is a great read once we get right into the story, past the getting to know characters and I know it will only get better as more books enter the reading world.

Tess, Maura and Cate , are 3 sisters who are all witches. Tess uses magic like any 12yr old would do when told not to do something. She is a little mischievous. Maura is 15 and feisty and a little out spoken. Cate is nearing 17yrs and is sensible, worried for all their safety. She knows truly what is at stake if Brother Ishida comes knocking.

There is a prophecy, the Brotherhood ( grrrrrrr...) and the Sisterhood. You don’t want Brother Ishida at your door with his goon squad as he has proclaimed you to be a witch, mostly because he says so and off you go to the mad house or to the prison ship.

This story is set in 1896. The Cahill Sister’s mother is dead and their father away working, almost constantly. A Governess has been brought in to transform these girls into the upstanding , well bred ladies that they are and to get them married off when they come of age.

Enter Paul McLeod, Cate’s best friend who she grew up climbing trees with and mucking about. He has returned from New London and both parties have grown older and more handsome. Paul has the best intentions. I like Paul but he isn’t for Cate. Hopefully he shows us a deeper character, one that will fight for Cate.

Then enter Finn Belastra...* sigh * , the resident intellectual gardener who wants to tend a bit more than the roses. He is swoon worthy and smart. He is a gardener by circumstance, brains he has, but he also has a sense of loyalty to his mother and sister.

This is when the story gets real interesting. There is the most wonderful snogging, letters get revealed, girls get taken, secret rooms, banned books, hidden weaponry , more snogging. Secrets are revealed, there are sacrifices to be made and there is Finn. I can’t wait to see Finn in action.

What I am looking forward to in the sequels is, some action scenes, I’m talking Harry Potter verbal magic sparring without the wands, two guys fighting for Cate and her sisters, more of the totally corrupt Brother Ishida. This guy has two sets of rules and currently needs a rather hard ‘stinky dead fish slap’ from me. Dear old dad to wake up to his daughters strife and to find out what the deal truly is with the Sisterhood.

There are a couple great twists in this book, which I really enjoyed.

Jessica visually writes her scenes beautifully. I loved the bookshop and the garden.

Can the Sisterhood truly be trusted to look out for those within their walls or are they just as bad to a certain extent as the Brotherhood?

This book got very exciting and I wish we had more excitement to read before I turned the last page .

Jessica Spotswood has started something that I want to follow through until the end. I am waving the Team Finn T-shirt and can’t wait to read more about Cate and her sisters.

Oh, and how gorgeous is this book cover?

FAVE QUOTES:

Father gestures toward the corner of the room, where Mrs. Corbett sits like a fat spider on the plush red sofa, spinning her helpful little schemes.

Our noses bump in the dark, but Finn tilts his head sideways until his lips touch mine. They brush back and forth , testing. Tasting. He waits, but I only press closer, and he reads that for the invitation it is. His kisses grow bolder. My toes curl in my slippers; my fingers clench the fabric of his shirt; fireworks explode in my belly.

His mouth explores the sharp line of my jaw, then moves to the hollow of my throat.

“Finn,” I sigh. Never in my life has my voice sounded like that.

" No ,” I say slowly, raising my eyes to his. “I don’t feel compromised at all.”

“If you stay here, I’ll have to kiss you senseless and someone will see us eventually.”
