BLOG TOUR # 16 - WHISPERING HILLS by TARYN BROWNING - WHISPERING HILLS # 1 - BOOK REVIEW

SUPA GURL

I love reading YA genre and anything Paranormal. Taryn has done a really great job of this story about love, betrayal, skeletons that are falling out of the closet, friendship, selflessness and sacrifice. Here is my review for the blog tour for  'Whispering Hills'.

I LOVE this cover

RATING: 4 MYSTERIOUS STARS!

Book Blurb: Taken From Goodreads

For as long as she can remember, 17-year-old Alexis Forbes can hear the thoughts of others. Most recently, she is disturbed by the dark, unfamiliar voice of a frightening killer: callous, cunning, charismatic…and dead.

She hears his every sinister thought. But she can’t tell anyone. No one would believe her. Alexis is suddenly being haunted by a terrifying past she doesn’t remember, and a ghost with a serious score to settle. Even Chance, the gorgeous new guy she’s falling for.  He’s definitely not like any guy she’s ever met. Alexis soon discovers she has a connection to the dead and it runs much deeper than she could ever imagine. And if the sociopathic entity has his way, she’ll finally be sentenced to the fate she escaped thirteen years ago.

BOOK REVIEW:

“I’m going to kill her.”

17 year old Alexis Forbes hears the voice of a killer.

Since she can remember, Alex has had the ability to hear others decisions, and you can imagine how hard it would be to be in a room full of people babbling about what they have decided to do.

Yabber, yabber, yabber, but Alex hears who is going to be killed and where the body is. How do you tell the police? How do you explain it to anybody?

Alex lives with her absentee father, her mum who may as well be absent, and sister Brooke. Brooke is the only one in her family who knows what she can do.

Enter Chance , naturally gorgeous and mysterious. Alex and Chance hit it off quite quickly. But they are in for a bumpy road. I would have liked the road to love to have been a little slower, but that is just me. Alex can’t hear Chance’s  thoughts, which is very puzzling to her, why him, when she can hear everybody else’s decisions?

Now, I am going to say I did not read the book blurb until after I finished the book.  I had no idea what this book was about. I often won't read blurbs as I like to come in completely blind to the story, to not have any preconceived ideas in my head. I go on the rating of a book.
I think this blurb gives too much away and takes away a bit of the mystery from some characters, as it blatantly states it.  I personally think that bit needs to be taken out. Let the reader work it out. I know I liked working it in my head as the story unfolds, it adds more to the readers experience, not knowing.

Summer is a great character. I loved her  image, she wasn’t liked by the other students, but there was a friendship/connection with Alex.  I liked her spunk, even if she tried to show others that she was not to be noticed, to be left alone. From reading this book, she is a character that has depth and goodness.

Enter Gabriel. Now here was a puzzling guy. Was he batting for good or evil? Was he misunderstood, just the bad boy? Or is he more dangerous than imagineable?

I really enjoyed Gabriel’s character. He brought it to the table. He gave the book bite.

Sometimes I wondered about the way Chance’s character was written. I would have like Alex and Chance’s relationship to have been written a bit more mature with their dialogue. Again, maybe I am showing my age here?

Whispering Hills holds a lot of secrets for the present and from the past .

I enjoyed the curve balls Taryn threw into her story. I did work out some things, but I do love a good curve ball and Taryn has a good pitching arm.

I am looking forward to where Taryn takes us in the second book.

The gloves are now off...I am intrigued!

FAVE QUOTE:

“Did you and Chance break up or something? He stormed out of school looking like someone had just run over his cat, and you, well, let’s just say this look isn’t attractive.” She examined her own outfit. “And I wear all black and look dead half the time, so if I’m commenting on your looks, you really must look like shit.”
