Nara Collins is an average sixteen-year-old, with one exception: every night she dreams the events of the following day. Due to an incident in her past, Nara avoids using her special gift to change fate…until she dreams a future she can’t ignore.

After Nara prevents a bombing at Blue Ridge High, her ability to see the future starts to fade, while people at school are suddenly being injured at an unusually high rate.

Grappling with her diminishing powers and the need to prevent another disaster, Nara meets Ethan Harris, a mysterious loner who seems to understand her better than anyone. Ethan and Nara forge an irresistible connection, but as their relationship heats up, so do her questions about his dark past.

BOOK REVIEW:

You know that feeling of déjà vu people talk about?

I live it. Every. Single. Day.

This book starts off with a bang...well a potential bang, quite literally. Immediately we are drawn into this story.

There is a dream. A girl named Inara aka Nara Collins. A 911 call that stops students from being killed or badly injured at Blue Ridge High School and a vintage black ‘Rush’ T-shirt , blue eyed, longish black hair, deep voiced hottie with a tattoo, named Ethan Harris. Who, by the way drives an old ’69 black Mustang. Who cares if it is in need of a paint job and Ravens poop on its roof....P.T. you have my attention.

Nara has been having dreams since she was a little girl. She sees her day ahead of her where she is involved, only. Which you may think is a ‘cool’ gift to have bestowed upon you. Imagine seeing in your dream what your friends are going to say about you, you know, the stuff that you aren’t meant to hear. Seeing a tragedy about to happen but you are not supposed to intervene, no matter what! Could you sit back and know what was going to happen, play by play, watch the accident unfold in front of your eyes in real time and not do anything about it? Could you not make that 911 call when you know a bomb is going to go off in your school and kill students, that day, badly injuring your friends and other students? Could you really sit back and let fate take its course?

Nara couldn’t.

And there starts a whole chain of events.

Enter Ethan Harris. Loner guy from History and Trig and newly transferred in, two weeks earlier. I really loved Ethan’s character. He isn’t perfect. He has his own problems that he is trying to find ways to work through. Ethan draws his inner pain, what he sees. There is a whole lot to Ethan that I think we are only just discovering. That he is only discovering. I am rather intrigued about several things that are going on with him. His character has mystery about it, which I love. I am also intrigued about Samson his older brother. We only get a glimpse of Samson, something tells me we are going to learn more about him.

Nara and Ethan have a great relationship in this book. It’s almost like a balancing of the scales. I really connected with them because it isn’t wham, bam we are in love. They are both very mature for their age. There is a much deeper thing that connects them. As more of the story unfolds we understand Ethan more. He is a very strong character that has had his share of pain. He is very intelligent and selfless when trying to help Nara and others. He is also smoking hot. He has a great presence about him. Something the other students don’t see but Nara does.

This book is a real page turner. It has, a creepy shower scene, mysterious Ravens ( gronk! gronk!), great sub characters (Aunt Sage and Gran Corda have their own secrets, me thinks), dreams, smackdowns, a BFF, some interesting radio stations, a father that walked out of her life ( Jonathan you are holding out on us), great sunglass collection ( I love sunglasses), mystery, soccer, bitchy girls, and great twists in the storyline.

And somebody isn’t happy with Nara.

DON’T . ENTER. FEAR.

Oh and there is a most wonderful Kissing scene....*sigh*...but you didn’t really want to know that...did you? ( Note that I actually noted the page number when reading this and I put !!!!! next to my notes)

Releasing in 2012
I’m looking forward to ‘Lucid’ the next instalment in this series...there is so much more to Ethan...I can feel it, I can see it.....* waggles eyebrows*

I can’t wait to have tangible copies of these books on my bookshelf.

Publishers pay attention, you are missing out on an awesome YA genre author here, who has a wonderful YA voice.

FAVE QUOTES:

“Who knew knights wore flannel shirts and Led Zeppelin tees?”

Ethan leaned close and I closed my eyes as he lightly kissed my cheekbone, then my forehead. He had no idea that his gentle kiss had melted something inside me, how much I craved the physical connection. His warm lips lingered against my skin for a second before he took a step back and shoved his hands in his jean pockets
 “I’m no hero, Nara.”

When Ethan inhaled deeply and his fist tightened under mine, I realised this was the first time I’d reached out to him. Worried I’d crossed some kind of line, I started to lift my hand, but he quickly slipped his fingers between mine, locking our hands together. “Not yet, Nara,” he said in a harsh rasp.

Breathless, I glanced up. The look in his eyes, a mixture of angst, fierce need and hope, made my heart rate surge, battering my chest with hundreds of fist punches. I curled my fingers around his and we sat there in the stinky gym, completely oblivious to all the cheering and hollering around us.

Burying his nose in my hair, he murmured, “Keep shining that light, Sunshine.”

“I want to touch you, Nara, but I can’t,” he said in a low , tortured tone. “I want to kiss you, but I can’t. All I can do is watch you from a distance and it’s killing me.”

  5. This books gives a whole new meaning to "Don't miss with fate"
I loved this story. It's not your typical young adult book in which the girl suddenly discovers she's got magical powers and falls in love with her night in shinning armour.
Nara is a fantastic main character, strong and a lovely person although she's not perfect she tries to do what's right.
And then Ethan he's everyone's dream boy (or at least mine^^) he has that kind of mysterious guy going on at the beginning, and once you find out why you'll go ohhh. Although he does open up to Nara.
Their relationship was amazing it wasn't love at first sight, their relationship builds up as they get to know each other
The secondary characters were great Aunt Sage, Nara's parents, Samson. Although I didn't think much of her so called friends.
