Now she must work with Raphael as her search for the killer leads into the secret underbelly of supernatural Atlanta. And dealing with her feelings for him might have to take a back seat to saving the world…

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:
Raphael and Andrea are having their issues in their own book Gunmetal Magic.
Raphael and Andrea are having their issues in their own book Gunmetal Magic.
Raphael pulls the oldest trick in the book and I could feel Andrea’s hurt. I liked how she just got on with her investigation, no matter how much she was hurting on the inside.
I will kill you. I will hurt you, you wretched bastard.
I think we could all see that it was just a ploy of Raphael’s because she was dumb as dirt and that doesn’t seem Raphael’s style.
The whole Curran and Kate pre-relationship shenanigans, in the previous books, I found were similar to how Raphael and Andrea behaved in this one.
I think what I am trying to say is I didn’t feel like there was a great enough distinction between both sets of character couples when they were in drama mode with each other.
“Don’t change shape,” Raphael snapped.
“Shut up.”
“Be good or I’ll kiss you in front of everybody.”
“Hell no,” I snarled. I had to hold on and live through this so I could punch him in the face. It was a great goal.
We know as the reader that they will get back together. It is inevitable, we are more or less going through the motions.
“Anything to say?”
“I’m sorry I hurt you.”
“Too little, too late. I’m tired of waiting for you to stop running away from who you are. You want to know what the best thing about Rebecca is?”
His eyes were pure ruby and they burned. I was hanging on by a thread.
“She isn’t you.”
“Hey, babycakes,” he said into the phone.
Babycakes? Babycakes! “You want to act psycho? You haven’t seen psycho yet.”
“I’m not worried,” he said. “To go psycho, you’d have to pull that stick out of your ass and we both know that won’t be happening.”
Raphael is obviously very different to Curran, but, I must admit I did feel like Andrea’s character and Kate’s character were quite similar. I think Andrea behaves quite like Kate.
We definitely get to understand Andrea and her childhood pain, more. Her vengeance on those that did her wrong and how Raphael can bring her back from that. Raphael learns to understand the reason she took her stand against joining the Pack.
The thorn that was in their relationship.
The Ilona Andrews team bring us vipers, priests, the draugr, gods and demons and Roman.
I quite enjoyed Roman. I want to have him in the books more. I think once I got past that robe of his I was sold more.

I quite enjoyed Roman. I want to have him in the books more. I think once I got past that robe of his I was sold more.
“You have a problem with pants?” Raphael asked.
Roman pulled his robe apart, revealing a pair of black jeans underneath. “I always wear my pants. I just don’t want to deal with that retarded outfit. I don’t even know how to put it on.”
“Wear the fatigues,” I told him. “It won’t kill you. Not wearing them might.”
Roman sighed, rolled his eyes, and stripped off his robe and jeans, revealing a muscled torso. Well. Someone worked out. Roman pulled on the fatigue pants, grabbed the black boots, folded the bottom of the pants in a practiced move, and stuffed his feet into his boots.
Hmmm.
Next he took the ACU top and rolled up both sleeves in a perfectly even summer regulation cuff. Raphael stared at him. Roman pulled the ACU on and flexed. “Makes your arm bigger, see?”
“You asshole,”I punched him in the shoulder.
“Gentle! I bruise easily.” He rubbed his carved biceps and I caught a glimpse of a tattoo on his arm; a skull wearing a beret. Army Ranger.
Now I had seen everything.
Ascanio Ferara is a fun sidekick character at the moment, but he feels like he will get a meatier role. It’s like we are biding our time until we see Ascanio in action. He is floating about at the moment.
Waiting to WOW us.
Fifteen going on thirty, with glossy black hair and green eyes. Ascanio was beautiful. Not just pretty. Not just attractive, beautiful. He had that whole fallen angel thing going -- there was a devious, sly mind behind that innocent face and pretty eyes.
I can’t help reinforcing this feeling I have with how Julie behaves around him and how she also behaves around Derek.
Derek got frosty replies studded with spikes and if Ascanio was present, she turned into a foul-mouthed sarcastic devil.
Which one will Julie end up with? Derek or Ascanio?
Or both!
Now imagine , we know Ascanio at the age of fifteen wasn’t shy for a bit of menage action. Can't see the Ilona Andrews team writing that.
Heheee!
I am now used to the detail in Ilona Andrews world with the zippo detail in the smexi part of the story.
HA!
We had had sex hundreds of times. We had tried dozens of positions, we had flirted with our kinks, we had long ago learned how and where to touch to make each other moan and gasp and to delay each other’s pleasure until the sweet anticipation of release became almost torture... and we used none of it. We made love in the tried-and-true missionary position right there on the hideous purple carpet in the hallway, awkward and impatient, fumbling about like two virgin teenagers caught in a selfless race to make each other happy.
It was the best sex I had ever had.
Yup. That’s a sex scene in an Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels book.

I feel like asking. 'Was that good for you?'
Not that I’m complaining, but Raphael is a bouda and he is in earlier books noted for being a bit of a sex maniac. But when it comes down to the hanky panky...
...that’s it!
I gotta say I am so glad that Jeaniene Frost can give me some Bones and Cat action in Night Huntress. J

I really like Doolittle, he is starting to come out of his shell.
Doolittle walked through the door. “Shouldn’t you be resting?”
“I’m saving the world,” I told him.
Doolittle grabbed his throat and smashed his head into Raphael’s face. It was the most vicious head butt I had ever seen. Raphael fell back. Doolittle snarled something under his breath and walked away.
Maybe Grendel needs a girlfriend too.
Bring. On . Magic Rises.

As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.
As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear…
