He watches her from across the crowded dance club, a sensual black-haired stranger who stirs Gabrielle's deepest fantasies. But nothing about this night--or this man--is what it seems. For when Gabrielle witnesses a murder outside the club, reality shifts into something dark and deadly. In that shattering instant she is thrust into a realm she never knew existed--a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and a blood war is set to ignite.

Lucan Thorne despises the violence carried out by his lawless brethren. A vampire himself, Lucan is a Breed warrior, sworn to protect his kind--and the unwitting humans existing alongside them--from the mounting threat of the Rogues. Lucan cannot risk binding himself to a mortal woman, but when Gabrielle is targeted by his enemies, he has no choice but to bring her into the dark underworld he commands.

Here, in the arms of the Breed's formidable leader, Gabrielle will confront an extraordinary destiny of danger, seduction, and the darkest pleasures of all . . . .

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

First of all I want to thank the lovely Rachel from The Rest Is Still Unwritten book blog for gifting me this copy to read.

Secondly, if you have read Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward, well you know what I am going to say next. Yep. Pretty much along the lines of BDB. In saying that , I did enjoy Kiss Of Midnight. It is well written.

Sure there are many similarities to be found with the formula of BDB. If you haven’t read BDB series then you will be none the wiser.

I did a bit of recon and BDB - Dark Lover was written a couple years earlier. So That egg came before this chicken. Or something like that.

Lucan Thorpe is the head honcho of this lot of warriors, he is the man coming in at around 900 years old. He is a Gen One.

Lara has given us the Rogues who are the enemy to humans and to these vampire warriors. Now, Lara has given us an alien spin on the whole warrior thing, so that was different. Ape + evolution = human. Same with these lads. Alien + evolution = Vampire Warrior. Or something like that. Loosely, anyway.

We of course get a villain who wants to rule the world.

Mwah ha ha ha haaaaaa.

Minions are the human plebs running about being all creepy as they are essentially puppets doing their masters bidding. Shame the master doesn’t think of them as anything but disposable, easily replaced. I wouldn’t advise being a Minion. It won’t end well for you.

I feel like talking like Quasimodo, ‘Yes Master, no Master,’ when I think of the minions.

Gabrielle is our female protagonist who doesn’t realize the parallel world that exists right under her nose and how much she is destined to be a part of it, until... Lucan crosses her path.

Da...da...daaaaa.

Yes he is gorgeous and smexi and dark and dangerous and all those things we lasses all cling to in our Paranormal Romance reads. He will fight his feelings, he will get all growly over the woman he takes four fifths of the book to realize he is in lurrvvvee with. He can’t breathe without his woman. His bond mate. She will be in great peril from the villain at some stage and need saving and some love making .

* waggles eyebrows *

I do like the other lads, Dante, Rio, Gideon, Nikolai and the intriguing , Tegan.

I am looking forward to reading their books and seeing if this series will take a deviation from the BDB formula.

Whether it does or doesn’t I am in for the long haul of getting up to date on this series.

I did like a couple twists I got in this book , for what I did work out ahead of time, I am always impressed if I can be fooled by who is selling someone out.

Is it as good as BDB? Well , I am still open to where this series will take me. Both Dark Lover ( BDB # 1) and Kiss of Midnight gave the reader that similar female lead character formula and similar male lead character formula and the loss of a warrior while throwing in the intriguing warrior that is behaving a little differently to the others.

Only one way to find out. Keep reading.

I am a quotes girl and I always can get an abundance of quotes from J.R.’s writing, yet I didn’t really get anything quote worthy from this first installment. But , there are another 11 books for me to plunder and have my wicked way with.

I did notice that there was no Fritz in this one or a batman style Alfred. Hehe! I really shouldn’t be comparing but it was a little hard not to when reading this book.

I am on to Kiss Of Crimson next, which appears to be Dante’s book.
