BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

People, I have discovered, are layers and layers of secrets.

You believe you know them, that you understand them, but their motives are always hidden from you, buried in their own hearts.

You will never know them,
but sometimes you decide to trust them.

I have to say, I can see why this series is uber popular. Goodreads alone has such a star worthy response to this series over 641,000 people rated it with an average of 4.35 stars.

That is just the first two books!

Divergent has currently 86% of readers leaving a four star and above.

Insurgent has currently 83% of readers leaving a four star and above.

That is just Goodreads.

That is amazing .

I can also see why a movie is being made for Divergent.

Insurgent was a rush. It was a non stop ride. Divergent # 1, had a lot of setting up and getting to know characters.

Insurgent just takes off.

Hold on to your book.

What I loved about this book was how well thought out the plot was by Veronica. She really shapes this book for Allegiant. This is not a middle book. This is a stand out book.

It was intense.

I did do an OMG at the end of this book. It kind of puts a whole new direction to where Allegiant is going.

Whahhhhh!!!

I really loved Tobias and Tris. Tobias is just a hunk a hunk of burning love, and Tris is such a strong female lead. She doesn’t listen to what she is told. She uses her own brain and really analyses what she has seen and goes with her gut.

Nobody makes up her mind for her.

Nobody.

There are many moments where Tris has to go with her gut or else she would be dead. She is more observant than the villain and the minions give her credit. You must keep your enemies close.

Who do you trust?

Who could in fact be a frenemy?

Who is a traitor?

There are many twists and just when you think you are out of twists, Veronica will give you another.

You can forget when reading how young these kids are. Tris is 16 yrs old but she has more street smarts, more Joan of Arc type bravery, than the average teen.

Things are changing.

Veronica really knows how to bring a great dystopian to the readers. No dystopian is without a person who thinks they can control the people. Control the masses. Jeanine is a very worthy , heartless, woman and her minions are brutal.

She wants to study my response. I barely breathe. I used to think that cruelty required malice, but that is not true. Jeanine has no reason to act out of malice. But she is cruel because she doesn’t care what she does, as long as it fascinates her.

I like this recent interview , especially the Q about why no love triangle. I really liked Veronica's answer.

The next vid is a great interview with Veronica who is only turning 24 yrs old, this year. To have such success with a series at such a writer young age, is amazing.

I am a rather eager beaver for Allegiant. I had Insurgent from the publisher sitting on my shelf for review since it was released, but I had to wait and read it just before Allegiant was released.

Now I know why. I too went with my gut feeling.

That ending is a corker!

Bring. On. Allegiant.

  1. Niiiice! I still need to read Insurgent myself! Might be doing it just as we hit October! Have had it since the release, but other reads kept getting in the way and then at this point and after reading a few other reviews I've decided it's better to wait closer to Allegiant's release date. Of course since I preordered it, I won't get it til days and days after the release date. Damn preorder sales!

    Great review!!

  2. Let me try this again... third attempt!

Love the series, I thought it's another HG wannabe. So surprised by how much I enjoyed the books. The dude playing Tris and Four in the movie are too old but the actor playing Four is so gorgeous! I'll give him a pass.

  3. I've waited so long to read Insurgent and now I'm glad I did. I think I'll wait until Allegiant comes out and I can read them back to back. This is one of those series that just hooks you and pulls you in. I loved Divergent so much, but was wary of Insurgent because of the hype. I'm glad they haven't hyped Allegiant nearly as much as they did Insurgent. I'm so excited for the movie too! OMG the actor who plays Four? Whew! Love him ;)

  4. For the most part, I did not like this as much as I did Divergent. While the ending was great, it took a long time for me to get back in the story. It makes me think that people who are waiting to read all three in one go have the right idea!

    1. Because I had such a long break inbetween #1 and # 2 I did have to admittedly get back into the swing of all the factions, but it didn't take me long. I went back and read the last couple of chapters of Divergent so I was fresh again with where Insurgent took off immediately from Divergent finishing :D

I personally thought Insurgent really powered on from the first page, I just had to remember all the factions as peeps can be traitors etc...
