She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.

An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.

Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.

Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.

Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

Bella contacted me about reviewing A Shade of Vampire. I enjoyed Bella’s story but I would have liked much more character development and to feel more connected with Derek and Sofia. This is a good debut, with great potential. I look forward to seeing Bella’s writing evolve.

I had a look on Goodreads and 4’s and 5’s were being slapped down with enthusiasm. I am sorry that I cannot grade it as high.

Lucas is the villain of the story, even though he was really only acting liking a vampire, was the character I felt the most connected to as he really showed his colors and he had depth to him. He was bad news if you were a human, and especially Sofia, as he had his stalker on with her. He showed me who he was and he made no apologies. Lucas is a scary villain. Very deserving of the title.

I liked the whole idea of there being a Vampire Shade and Derek and his family having once been Shadow Hunters, turned and now being the hunted. They were once the hunters. I like that.

Derek’s character came across a bit beta, rather than Alpha. He had his moments, but his is 500 years old and he chose to spend 400 years in a deep , witch induced spell sleep so that he could not take on his responsibilities. This I found a bit awkward reading, as he is the Prince. He founded the Shade for the vampires, keeping them safe and hidden in tree house accommodation. It was his doing, and then he wanted to skip out on it. He got a bit cranked off that he was woken by his sister Vivienne.

Sofia, bless her, she is a bit up and down as a character. Nowhere did we understand that humans knew about vampires, that it was common knowledge. Miss Sofia is kidnapped, drugged, chained and she takes it all in very calmly, but sometimes not calmly, but mostly ok with it all. She has a condition. I am not sure if that explained her behaviour.

I really liked parts of this story. I just think the characters needed much more work. I personally, and I look like I am in the rare reviewers, did not connect very well with Bella’s story. I wanted to. I kept getting glimpses of what I needed from Derek and Sofia.

I added reviewer points for the twist near the end. I knew something was coming but I was unsure of what. I REALLY liked this.

I am sorry I did not ‘feel’ this story like other readers.

  1. I absolutely adore the new cover of this novel. It's so pretty. Too bad you couldn't connect to the characters the way you would have liked, though.
