BLOG TOUR # 27 - BOOK REVIEW - NIGHT SKY by JOLENE PERRY

Today my stop on the blog tour is my book review of Night Sky. I love the title, it has a lot of meaning to the story. I love quotes, but for the life of me I could not stop to note them down as I was so engrossed in this story of love and love lost. You just have to trust me when I say this is a book full of quotes:)

Girl I’ve loved, girl I’m falling for. Now that they’re both in view, the problem is clear.

After losing Sarah, the friend he’s loved, to some other guy, Jameson meets Sky. Her Native American roots, fluid movements, and need for brutal honesty become addictive fast. This is good. Jameson needs distraction – his dad leaves for another woman, his mom’s walking around like a zombie, and Sarah’s new boyfriend can’t keep his hands off of her.

As he spends time with Sky and learns about her village, her totems, and her friends with drums - she's way more than distraction. Jameson's falling for her fast.

But Sky’s need for honesty somehow doesn’t extend to her life story – and Jameson just may need more than his new girl to keep him distracted from the disaster of his senior year.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

I’m not a big contemporary reader.

This book could easily sway me into reading this genre.

Simply put, this was a beautiful story told from Jameson aka Jay aka Jamesy’s POV.

This is such a touching read. It is hard to express how much I loved it being told from the boys point of view.

This is not a book filled with action...there is barely any, bit of a punch up, justly deserved. This is a story about discovery and growing up. People change. What was once so organised and structured and comfortable.... no longer is. Overnight, things become complicated. Life can hurt, cut you deep.

I felt so in touch with Jameson’s story he told me. His father has an affair, his bff Sarah, gets a boyfriend...he has loved her for three years. His emotional world is topsy turvy. His life has snowballed with feelings he doesn’t quite know how to deal with.

He feels all kinds of hurt, betrayal...love? Love lost?

He meets Sky. She is something else. She is not Sarah. He has to sort through his emotions. Sky is important to him. Sarah he has loved. He should have told Sarah how he felt. Sarah now has Eric.

From the word go, Sky is all about honesty. If you aren’t honest, don’t open your mouth.

Jameson learns a lot from Sky. She is Alaskan, the Tlingit Corporation. Sky has things that are complicated in her life. She has her secrets.....she doesn’t necessarily practice what she preaches. Honesty is very important to Sky, but some things affect too many people. She is dealing with her skeletons in private.

Jameson is on the swim team. When he needs to think he sits on the bottom of his pool. It’s his space to deal.

I really love Jameson’s character. Hearing how an 18 yr old thinks when it comes to girls and the hurt they can feel....well....who knows I may have learnt something ...understood some things that may affect my boys, one day.

I had a guy bff many moons ago. I then got a boyfriend, my hubby to this day. I think I got a bit of a lesson in how I may have hurt my guy bff.....let’s call him ‘G’, and squashed his feelings.

Not intentional. Just oblivious, like Sarah.

Complicated. Much.

I have a favourite scene in this book, it involves dolphins. It was a wonderful thing Jay did for Sky. Quite a magical night.

This book is essentially from start to finish about Jamesons’s feelings. I absolutely adored the story and could not put it down.

There is no mushy ending...there are no promises....
