Since escaping from the Ragged Cove and finding herself suspended from the Force, Kiera Hudson is hired by the mysterious Lady Hunt to protect her sixteen-year-old daughter Kayla, from the stranger who lurks on the moors. But little does Kiera know that it is she who is really in need of protection.
Arriving at Hallowed Manor on the desolate Welsh moors, Kiera soon realises that the vampires that she has been ‘seeing’ are not the stuff of her nightmares, but are very real and closing in.
If Kiera is to escape the vampires that hunt her, she will have to discover the true identity of the bandaged man, the secret of the children’s graveyard hidden beneath the weeping willows and who or what is hiding in the ‘forbidden’ wing at Hallowed Manor…
BOOK REVIEW:
6 Months have passed since Kiera Hudson left The Ragged Cove. Seeing is believing and Doc Keats and the rest of the Police Force didn’t see what went down at The Ragged Cove, she did. Nobody seems to want to believe that vampires were the reason for the deaths and missing people. Kiera has to prove to the Doc her sanity on a weekly basis, if she wants her badge back.
The past 6 months haven’t changed her story, what do they want her to say? One way to shut the Doc up is to prove her ability to ‘see’ things....
Kiera is plagued by nightmares, leaving her bleeding from her left eye....now they are waking nightmares...what is happening?
Enter Lady Hunt who needs Kiera to do a babysitting job for her, now! Although not what Kiera would normally do, she needs an income and to keep herself busy , so off to the creepy Hallowed Manor with its even creepier staff.
What I love about Tim’s writing is he always has a wonderful ambience to his writing. Darkness is his friend. You really ‘feel’ the scene he is writing with lamp light shining in your face.
Tim has introduced some great new characters who are always very interesting and quirky. I think he has brought another hottie to my attention....I can’t wait to read more about him.
What can I say about Potter......apart from my crush just keeps getting bigger. He is such a wise crack , and I love how he always makes good use of a bad situation, especially if it involves Kiera. He does make me laugh out loud. I think if the layers were peeled back Potter is somebody who has been hurt underneath, he has a protective shell that is his shield and he doesn’t like anybody getting past it. I do love it when Potter calls Kiera, “sweet-cheeks” and “easy Tiger!”
Luke has me all in knots as I don’t want him to be hurt, I kind of want Kiera to end up with Potter....but Luke is just this nice guy that cares about her , wants to protect her, throws himself in harms way to save Kiera..... he may even love her.
I love a well written action scene and Tim visually writes his action scenes very well. He always has a lot going on in his fight scenes and Potter and the lads are always up for a challenge.
The reader is in for another mystery and what better person for the job than Kiera Hudson. When you think you have something worked out....Tim throws in another twist.
Kiera has a more ongoing drama in her life that we will no doubt read more about in Vampire Hunt the third book in the series to be released December 2011. I can’t wait!
Tim O’Rourke has a delicious recipe of action, blood ( yes , there will be blood), witty dialogue, twists, hot guys, quirky characters, dark tales, paranormal creatures, rule breakers, awesome ambience and a mystery to keep you turning the pages. If you haven’t picked up Vampire Shift, with the totally awesome cover, then what are you waiting for, I highly recommend it. Once you have visited ‘The Ragged Cove’ you will be itching to get your hands on Vampire Wake and visit , ‘Hallowed Manor’.
FAVE QUOTES:
‘Knowing what you’re like, the slightest sign of a discarded cigarette butt and you would’ve been crawling around on your hands and knees trying to figure out how tall the smoker was , how old he was, what sign of the zodiac he was , whether he’d taken a crap that morning and Christ knows what else.’
‘Staring wide eyed at him I screamed, ‘oh my god! You disgusting pig!’
‘Okay Madonna , I think we get the picture. Now do your coat up before you catch a cold.’
‘Jeez , and I thought your hormones were raging – that guy reeks,’ he said.
