BOOK REVIEW - FALLING UNDER by GWEN HAYES - FALLING UNDER # 1

By: Gwen Hayes
Published By : New American Library
Released: Available Now
Details: Paperback, 324 Pages

RATING : 4 HOT HADEN STARS!!!

Book Blurb : Taken From Goodreads

Theia Alderson has always led a sheltered life in the small California town of Serendipity Falls. But when a devastatingly handsome boy appears in the halls of her school, Theia knows she's seen Haden before- not around town, but in her dreams.

As the Haden of both the night and the day beckons her closer one moment and pushes her away the next, the only thing Theia knows for sure is that the incredible pull she feels towards him is stronger than her fear.

And when she discovers what Haden truly is, Theia's not sure if she wants to resist him, even if the cost is her soul.

BOOK REVIEW:

‘Falling Under’ is set in the town of Serendipity Falls and all is not what it seems. I really enjoyed this book. It seemed like there were two halves to this book. The first half was similar to some YA stories where there is a boy who is not good and he falls for a good, innocent girl, whose parent is very strict, but!! Gwen Hayes places our female lead in these visually wonderful dreams that take our very innocent female English Rose, 17 year old, Theia Alderson, into the ‘Under’. This is the world that belongs to the boy , Haden Black. I love his surname is Black as it tells you he has a darkside. Well who knew how dark!

Theia finds herself behaving like she wasn’t raised to behave. Theia is a gifted violinist and ‘Father’, as she calls him, holds music very high in Theia’s life. Father , although away a lot on business trips has a lot of pull with Theia and her behaviour. It’s like the dreams give her an excuse to act out. Let’s face it if the strings are pulled that tight, it’s only a matter of time before daddy’s little girl begins acting out.

I love the supporting characters. Donny aka Donatella is a wonderful character who although very beautiful is quite a smart mouth and her dialogue is very humorous. Amelia is the quieter bff who is only discovering herself and what she is capable of. Varnie the surfie dude, cross dressing psychic brings something to this story. I began to wonder if he has a crush on Amelia, but she only has eyes for Mike . As long as Mike has pork rinds within his sight, he’s a content chappy.

I love Gabe. He is a sneetch...err..read the book you’ll work out what a sneetch is in Donny’s eyes. Gabe has his sight set on Donny, which is rather humorous to watch. He is a real nice guy.

The second half of the book has things going to a far different level to the first half. I got real interested in the story with the latter half. Theia is going to need her friends more than she realises.

Haden is trying soo hard , but is it enough. There is one person in Haden’s life that can’t be ignored easily. The pace picks up in this half making me wonder where book 2 in the series is going to take us. It gets a tad..well ...dark and then a bit topsy turvy.

I’m looking forward to where Gwen takes us in aptly named, ‘Dreaming Awake’, book 2 in the series. Haden is going to be upsetting somebody and there will... be.... repercussions. I can’t wait:D

FAVE QUOTES:

"We are going to get a little colour back into your face and then you are going to talk to Hottie McTightPants before some other ho snags him."

"I spy,  with my little eye.... fresh sneetch at nine oclock."

"Finally, he asked, "Are you afraid of me?"
"Absolutely not, and yes, with everything in my heart and soul," I blurted without thought.

"You're so beautiful," he whispered. "Sometimes I daydream about your heart-shaped mouth for hours."

"I'm probably half in love with a boy I don't really like."

"No. I never dreamt of kissing a girl - I only ever dreamt of kissing you."

"The darkness in me wants you the way a black hole eats stars. I dream of tasting you, devouring you."

"What I feel for you could boil the ocean if I let it."

"Are you drunk?"
"Noooo."  The fresh air was so lovely. "I'm just very well marinated."

"Did you know I have never seen a pen**?"
He laughed again. "When you wake up, you are going to hate yourself."
