Riley has always wanted to be a Demon Trapper like her father, and she's already following in his footsteps as one of the best. But it's tough being the only girl in an all-guy world, especially when three of those guys start making her life more complicated: Simon, the angelic apprentice who has heaven on his side; Beck, the tough trapper who thinks he's God's gift, and Ori, the strikingly sexy stranger who keeps turning up to save her ass. One thing's for sure - if she doesn't keep her wits about her there'll be hell to pay...

BOOK REVIEW:

I had such a great time reading this book and absolutely can not wait to read , 'Forbidden', 2nd book in the series.

Story is set in 2018 Atlanta, Georgia and demons are inhabiting earth. Necromancers are having a field day and dead doesn't guarantee you peace or a free ride.

Riley Blackthorne , an apprentice trapper has her hands full from the first chapter of this book in more ways than one. Who knew there was another use for a sippy cup? Demon Trappers catch the demons, get paid for each demon and that is their life. They hand them over to the demon traffickers, grab the cash and live another day.

I loooovvvee Beck, he is a great male lead character who has had it tough, physically and emotionally. You feel how he holds himself in check. One chapter I loved!!! Beck gives away alot about his heart.

I enjoyed this book being written in both Riley and Becks, POV's. It was nice being in Becks head, looking through his eyes at Riley almost proudly. I think they both have their guard up against each other, hence Riley's attitude towards Beck. Once bitten, twice shy. Humiliation can be a hard stick to swallow.

Jana Oliver really wrote emotion into this book well. It is a gritty book with not much to rejoice about and it only gets worse. It is fast paced but not too fast. I loved her twists and turns she positioned nicely throughout the story. Riley needs somebody to help her in this male dominated field, but she almost pushes it away. Life isn't a bed of roses for Riley but she fights it the only way she knows how, with sometimes pigheaded determination. Simon is an apprentice trapper like Riley. They have a connection and he is there for her when she is vulnerable. I felt Riley needed somebody that she felt comfortable letting her guard down with, but Simon didn't feel to me like he belonged with Riley. He is her comfort zone. He feels angelic to me, with Riley being his temptation.

Enter mysterious Ori , who appears from nowhere on several occasions and helps Riley. I am very intrigued by Ori, he is my little puzzle piece.

Harper is one mean bugger. I think there is a lot more to Harper. I think he is very damaged.

Riley finds herself pulling a Nancy Drew and something is smelling fishy, she has her hands full with fitting in school, her night job, and paying the bills. When your holy water isn't doing its job....well questions need to be answered. Proving she has brains and beauty and then the poop really hits the fan........There is a bit of a mystery about the demons knowing Rileys name and it doesn't look good when a demon knows  you by name.

I thought it was a very original story, filled with demons of all grades.

Grade One - Nasty , but not truly dangerous
Grade Three - Carnivorous eating machines with wicked claws and teeth. Completely gut and eat human in around 15 mins.
Grade Five - Geo-Fiend, could create freak windstorms, cause earthquakes. Archdemons, makes your worst nightmare look tame.

CHARACTERS:

Paul Blackthorne - Riley's father and Master Trapper, just a nice man.

Riley Blackthorne - 17yrs old, apprentice trapper to her father still goes to school.

Denver Beck aka Beck or Backwoods boy - 22 yrs old, ex Army, short blond hair with a Georgia drawl. Journeyman. Paul is Beck's mentor. Drives a F-250 rust red pickup.

Atlanta Guild - Harper ( most senior ) , Paul and  Morton,  all are masters.

Simon Adler - Apprentice to hard ass Harper. Very religious and good person.

Carmela - Guild doctor

Father Harrison - Priest, blesses the Holy Water when needed.

Peter - Riley's bff and computer whiz.

FAVE QUOTES:

'I don't hang with pensioners,' she snapped back.
It took Beck a second to decipher the insult.  'I'm not old.'
