Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go -- especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil -- and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings -- and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

BOOK REVIEW:

This was such an exciting book to read. The story of Jace and Clary, Simon and Luke and the Lightwoods in their endeavour to stop Valentine from collecting the Mortal Instruments and performing the ritual.

Poor Jace is up against the Inquisitor and proving his innocence. Loyalties are pushed, truths are bared, demons are everywhere. Downworlders are being sacrificed and Valentine must be stopped.

Jace and Clary must coexist no matter the smexual tension. Poor Simon is a bit worst for wear in this book. Wow !! How good would one particular scene in this book look in a movie involving Simon.
This whole book would look brill in a movie, a spectacular fighting scene I saw visually exploding on the big screen.

Jace is just selfless during this book with Simon, I knew my cocky , ego boy had deeper layers.

New characters introduced, other characters coming more into the foreground. Just spectacular writing by Cassandra Clare. Always showing her ablility to be witty with certain characters. Just a roller coaster of a ride .

The Inquisitor needed a darn good slap from me on several occassions and Simon needed a cuddle. Jace..well Jace is still my lovely boy I adore always thinking ahead to save the day. Clary is just one fearless , jump then worry about how big the jump actually is female lead who will roll her sleeves up and get in there with the best of them. Jace has his hands full just trying to stay ahead of her.

I actually read this book sometime ago and had to recap to do this review as the book is just jam packed with storyline. It's actually rather hard not to give anything away as I am typing. I can't recommend these YA books enough. They are such a fun, fast paced, exciting at times emotional ride. I have fave scenes in the book , but I can't mention them:( for fear of giving this wonderful book story away.

FAVE QUOTES:

"She said she doesn't want it," said Simon. "Ha-ha."
"Ha-ha?" Jace looked incredulous. "That's your comeback?"

"Look on the bright side , " said Simon. "If they need a human sacrifice, you can always offer me. I'm not sure the rest of you qualify anyway."

"It's my motto,"said Isabelle, with a sultry smile. "Nothing less than seven inches."

"Well , I'm not kissing the mundane, " said Jace. "I'd rather stay down here and rot."
"Forever?" said Simon. "Forever's an awfully long time."
Jace raised his eyebrows. "I knew it," he said. "You want to kiss me, don't you?"

"It's not often you get to see someone drool, " Jace observed. "Especially with such total abandon. Mouth wide open and everything."

"I don't have to come out to my mother," said Simon. "She already thinks I'm gay....."

"Oh you know. Jace reminds me of an old boyfriend. Some guys look at you like they want sex. Jace looks at you like you've already had sex, it was great, and now you're just friends----
even though you want more. Drives girls crazy...."

"No, I'm just a very naughty boy. I do all sorts of bad things. I kick kittens. I make rude gestures at nun's. "

"I thought I'd lie on the floor and writhe in pain for a while," he grunted. 'It relaxes me."

"You disappear so completely into your head sometimes, " he said. "I wish I could follow you."

and my fave!!!

"Everytime you almost die, I almost die myself."

  2. Hi Aylee,

I do love a quote:D I read these quite a while ago and had my reviews on draft until I could properly write them as the books have soo much going on in them. Then I realise that I can't do spoilers by saying 3/4's of it anyway..lol!!
