GREAT READ FOR YOUNG ADULTS!!
Book Blurb ( from Goodreads) : Scarlett March lives to hunt the Fenris-- the werewolves that took her eye when she was defending her sister Rosie from a brutal attack. Armed with a razor-sharp hatchet and blood-red cloak, Scarlett is an expert at luring and slaying the wolves. She's determined to protect other young girls from a grisly death, and her raging heart will not rest until every single wolf is dead.
Rosie March once felt her bond with her sister was unbreakable. Owing Scarlett her life, Rosie hunts fiercely alongside her. Now Rosie dreams of a life beyond the wolves and finds herself drawn to Silas, a young woodsman who is deadly with an ax-- but loving him means betraying her sister and has the potential to destroy all they've worked for.
BOOK REVIEW:
Jackson Pearce , a mid twenties author I take my hat off to. I loved the Prologue with Little Red Riding Hood and the Bad Wolf fairy tale connotations. Quite a nice way to start the book.
The sisters , Scarlett ( aptly named ) and Rosie ( also a rather redish name) are wolf hunters . The Fenris (wolves) the sisters hunt , are not your Jacob from Twilight nice wolves . These wolves want to swipe your little girl and do a very big Nummy Num Num on her , devouring her, often not cleaning up after themselves..not fussed if they leave a bit of bloodied elbow laying around....ugh!!! Another poor girl on the missing persons list or serial killer list.
The main characters are , Scarlett , the one eyed, scarred , fearless , often bait, stubborn , consumed by the hunt, older sister who can handle a hatchett well. Rosie, the perfect looking, younger of the two sisters, can be used as bait , hence the red cloak , can be fearless, wants more from life than just hunting and does not necessarily have the same father as Scarlett , ( mum had a troubled life). She is also pretty nifty with her set of knives. Silas, one of the sons of Pa Reynolds , the woodsman ,( are you beginning to see the connotations). The guy who has known the sisters from when they were little, before the wolf came a knocking, who not by coincidence lives in the woods, is the sisters fellow hunter. Silas wants more from life, he wants to live a normal life with hunting as part time. He sees how it consumes Scarlett ( Lett) and wants Rosie to have a hobby outside of hunting. He is also a dab hand at the axe. ( good to know when hunting girl devouring wolves)
I shall not spoil the hilarious chapter in this book...I so desperately would have liked some pictures to look at...my visual in my head was doing overtime..LOL!!
I thought Jackson described the Fenris transformation very well in this book. I could 'see' very clearly in my mind the hair , saliva, nails growing..etc.
I did enjoy this read, I had begun my process that I have when reading a book to try and work out what was happening, my ''theories". I had a theory, then I decided upon reading more that I was not going to be correct..but then well....you read and see.
I love!! the book cover, the two sisters and the Fenris, very clever art.
Sisters Red is a YA book there is a sequel coming 2011 called , "Sweetly".
Happy Reading!! Be afraid, very afraid of the big bad wolf......
