Aside from her dad, who passed away when she was six, Cassidy Jameson has only ever trusted one man: her best friend, Tyler. So of course she follows him to Texas when he leaves for college. She just didn't expect to be so drawn to their new roommate, Gage, a gorgeous guy with a husky Southern drawl. The only problem? He's Tyler's cousin.

Gage Carson was excited to share an apartment off campus with his cousin. He didn't mind that Tyler was bringing the mysterious friend he'd heard about since they were kids ... until the most beautiful girl he's ever seen jumps out of his cousin's Jeep. There's something about Cassi that makes Gage want to give her everything. Too bad Tyler has warned him that she's strictly off-limits.

Despite everything keeping them apart, Cassi and Gage dance dangerously close to the touch they're both been craving. But when disaster sends her running into Tyler's arms, Cassi will have to decide whether to face the demons of her past ... or to burn her chance at a future with Gage.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

I will start by saying, if you love Abbi Glines writing, you could possibly LOVE this book.

This book made me cry, and I felt frustrated. A 3D read that comes with a bag of emotions.

Somebody needed a stinky dead fish slap from me.

* raises one eyebrow *

Angst, drama and smexi moments that will have your toes curling , fill this book , and a guy that is absolutely book boyfriend worthy.

Man, I love Gage.

WHAT THE HELL was that? Nothing like that had ever happened to me. One look at Cassi and it felt like my world stopped. All I could think about was closing the distance between us. I don’t know how to describe it, but I needed to go to her. Unfortunately, I was frozen in place, taking in the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen. Her long brown hair was windblown, and those wide honey-colored eyes made me want to get lost in them. She looked so sweet and fragile, I wanted to wrap my arms around her and protect her from seeing anything bad in the world, but something in her eyes told me she knew too well what the world was like and could take care of herself. Which is why it was so damn confusing that she clung to my cousin like he was a life-line.

Now, I gotta get this off my chest. It is only my personal opinion. I originally saw this book on Netgalley...waaaay back when. I didn’t get around to reading it. But I felt compelled to read it. Recently I saw it at my local library and nabbed it. It wasn’t the cover that drew me to it. In hindsight this cover is more YA looking but this is a New Adult read. I personally would love this book to get a cover makeover. Something more new adult and more suited to the story within. These lads are just NOT Gage and Tyler. Also the cover is too similar to Taking Chances another book by Molly. Book cover crank session now over with.

Tyler is Cassidy’s best friend. He is her saviour. He is all she feels she has in her world of violence. He has been there for her since she was six years old.

Violence knows no age boundaries.

Violence that is at the hand of the person that should be loving and protecting you with all their heart and soul.

Tyler at first glance is a knight in shining armour.

But is he?

Is he a trouble maker?

Cassi trusts Ty . He is her only family. He is her rock.

Enter Ty’s cousin Gage.

Lordy be still my heart.

Gage is a gentleman, but at the same time he is so smexi and Rawrrrrr and growl. He will get you purring.

I got to say, Gage was put through emotional hell in this book. But the lad did not give up.

Tyler , I am still in two minds about you. I feel you have redeemed yourself, but some things are hard to forget.

Gage’s family are everything Cassidy needs in a stable loving environment. Gage is everything she needs. Gage is everything a lot of girls need.

“What the fuck?” My eyes flew open and I saw Cassidy standing right in front of me, clutching her pillow to her chest. “Oh, Cass, I’m sorry.”

She rolled her eyes and smiled. “For the last time, your cussing doesn’t offend me.”

Yeah, but once again, Mama would smack me upside the head for even saying that in front of a girl. I smiled back. “Mornin’.”

Enter the slut. A good NA read always has the biatch that rocks the boat. The troublemaker. The one we wanna slap and tell them to keep their panties on.

Gage isn’t perfect , but what can I say. He is damn near it. He makes mistakes. He learns. No he wasn't cheating. He was being an ass.

Gage grabbed my heart the minute I laid my eyes on him on the page and he kept me emotionally captivated with his patience and determination and love.

I absolutely loved being in his head. I looked forward to his pov, seeing his name at the start of the scene. The way he thought about Cassidy, the way his caveman side came out. Those little things he couldn’t help doing to confirm Cassidy was ok.

* sigh *

Cassidy is such a strong yet fragile character.

“Gage, can I tell you something I’ve never told anyone?” I asked softly.

“Of course you can.”

“I wasn’t lying to you. I really haven’t ever thought about what I wanted to do with my life. I, uh ...” Clearing my throat, I tried again. “I never thought I’d live long enough to be able to move out of that house, so it seemed pointless to think about the future.”

“Cass,” he breathed, “I’m so - “

She needs to work through a lot of emotional shiz before she can be whole enough to be loved. She can be frustrating to read at times. Like, grip your book and try not to throw it. I understood from the tender age of six years old her life as she knew it was swept out from under her. This is a little girl who had to feed herself. Survive beatings. When you only have one person you attach yourself to like a barnacle , who knows you...well, you believe them and trust in them. He is your safety net. He also knows how to manipulate and deceive.

Yes, Tyler. You made me want to smack you upside the head for your emotional blackmail.

Not cool, buddy.

The only males that have been in Cassidy’s life that have meant anything to her , are her father, Ty and now Gage. All very different. All playing different roles. She didn’t have any girlfriends. No relatives to call her own. She was living in a bubble of hatred, then as she grew older, her heart was trying to understand what it was telling her. She is a teenager. Very inexperienced in life.

Enter Connor. I was starting to get a bit dang emotionally confuzzed by this stage, I tell ya. But , again, a great NA read would not be without all those emotional speed humps that have us yelling at our books as we are reading them.

I loved the sub characters.

I loved the epilogue.

I loved this story.

It is stand alone, but hell, I wanted more. This book kept me wrapped up within its pages and I couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend this story about a girl so brutally betrayed , who gets a chance at a love that will make you swoon. It is a bumpy ride for Gage and Cassidy but so worth it in the end.
