Tragic by J.A. Huss

Series : Rook & Ronin # 1
Publication date: May 20th 2013
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

MY REVIEW - Tragic

Synopsis:

Rook Walsh is TRAGIC

Because life so far – just sucks. Some girls get parents. Rook got the foster care system. Some girls get Prince Charming. Rook got an abusive frog. Some girls get lucky…

Rook got a second chance.

And she took it. Because when fate throws you a bone – you grab it with both hands and run.

Antoine Chaput knows the minute he spies Rook in his photography studio that she’s got The Look. The dark and desperate look he must have to land the exclusive TRAGIC media contract.

Rook is paired up with top model, Ronin, and he’s everything her abusive ex-boyfriend wasn’t. Patient, gentle, happy, attentive, and sexy! He knows exactly what to do to make Rook blush for Antoine’s portfolio.

Rook’s luck changes in an instant and suddenly she’s the darling of the modeling world. It’s a dream job to go with a dream guy and all she has to do is look pretty and follow directions. But there’s always a price to pay – and Rook is about to get the bill.

TRAGIC is a new adult contemporary romance.

Manic by J.A. Huss

Series: Rook and Ronin #2
Publication date: August 1st 2013
Genre: New Adult Contemporary

Synopsis:

TRAGIC is over and Rook is ready for the future—Spencer Shrike and the STURGIS contract!

It’s three months of body art modeling! That means three months of Spencer Shrike’s paintbrush all over her body, three months in front of Antoine’s camera, and three months of twenty-four hour filming for Spencer’s Biker Channel reality show.

Wait a minute…what reality show? Maybe she should’ve read that STURGIS contract a little closer? ;)

Sure, Rook’s bank account is almost overflowing, but Ronin is angry, Clare is trying to escape rehab, Antoine is a worried mess, and Elise is just trying to hold everyone together. Her new family is about to fall apart before she even gets the chance to enjoy them.

Add in a mysterious man from her past, a road trip to the famous Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and a final show in front of the entire world where all her good are on display, and you’ve Manic—a new adult contemporary romance that will definitely make your summer sizzle!

PANIC TRAILER

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle: 5 SMEXI LADS STARS!

It is official, I am addicted to J.A. Huss and her lads from Rook & Ronin.

Ford!

Oh. My!

I was intrigued in Manic, I am left... wanting.

Needing. Ford’s book.

Yes, he is next cab off the rank. Giddy Up!

I take my hat off to J.A. she writes Ford so well in this book. He caught my eye in Manic, but , I was not understanding him. What was his game? He is something else in this book. He takes more of a front row seat. Yowzer, what the lad gets up to and it is only touched on. Like, tippy toe touched on.

I am intrigued. I'm not sure if Ford makes me nervous, he certainly is a stand out character. Ford is such an intelligent character. He kind of blows my mind the way J.A. writes him. I am almost drooling for his book.

Ford. Ford. Ford. The words that come out of his mouth...

He has an intenseness , but there is something else under all that.

I can say no more.

He is certainly a surprise package that still needs unwrapping. I can’t wait to watch J.A. unwrap him for us all to see what is inside.

I swallow.

“Like this, Rook.” Ford’s soft words vibrate into me. “I like you. I’d like to show you how much, actually. I’m being a gentleman to make life easier for you, but believe me, it’s not really in my nature to be so accommodating. I typically just take what I want.”

I am fan girling over Ford. He certainly showed Alpha male characteristics in this book.

All J.A. Huss’s lads in this series are quite something. Everybody has secrets.

O.M.G.

EVERYBODY!

Ronin is absolutely beautiful in this installment. He will also have you gasping.

Whahhh! The lad knows how to rock Rook’s Kazbah. Makes me look at cherries in the supermarket in a whole different light.

Holy mac and cheese, people!

* growl *

He will also have you seeing another side to him. I really liked hearing his inner monologue. He is quite the wise ass.

And this, little grasshoppers, is what I like to call the no-lose situation. Pay close attention, because here’s how it goes down.

I did laugh out loud at what I was picturing in my head. It has something to do with the song above. It was very random. Ha!

J.A. takes Rook on a different journey in this installment. She is finding herself. She is a tougher, more in control Rook. She is Rook 3.0. She has a tough fragility about her that gets explored. We understand Rook more.

I liked what J.A. did with Rook it answered some concerns I had for her character and what has been hinted at in the past reads.

All the characters have such individual voices. You can’t possibly confuse them.

Ronin is rather swoon worthy in Panic. He pulls out all the stops to be there for Rook, even when he can't be. The lad is in lurrrvve. He is patient. He is protective. He is dead smexi.

“You, “ he whispers and lets out a sigh. “You are the hottest fucking woman I’ve ever laid eyes on. I saw hundreds of girls today, each one prettier than the last. But I compared each and every one of them to you, Rook. And not one -“He stops to look me in the eye as he stands up and takes off his pants and boxers, then pulls me to my feet, sits down where I just was, and places me in his lap. I drape my arms over his shoulders. “Not one of them even came close to measuring up to you, Gidge.”

“Ronin Flynn, you are my forever guy. I’d just like to say that right now. You are my forever guy.”

“I’m falling hard for you, Rook. I hope you know that.”

I look up at this incredible man and I have no words for what I feel. I’m not falling for Ronin. I’m laid out flat on my face. He is the perfect man.

Spence has gone all big brother on Rook. He was this smexi beast... rawrrr,  in Manic and now he knows who she belongs to and he stays on his side of the fence. Doesn't stop him joking about it though.

“Yeah, well, let’s toast. Rook, I knew you were my blackbird when I first laid eyes on you”- I blush a little. I didn’t expect something personal - “ and I was right. You were the perfect model for my paintings and you’re gonna be the perfect addition to my new show. I’m so glad you talked that caveman boyfriend of yours into letting you come join me here. I’d kiss ya, but something tells me you liked it a little too much when we did that last summer, so I’ll spare you the embarrassment of fawning all over me and keep it professional.”

I simply NEED to read more in this world of characters. I will be the one bouncing up and down in excited anticipation.

He screws up his face. “How is Spencer desirable? I have never understood what girls see in him.”

I laugh. “Well, he’s like a big fun-loving goof-ball, but powerful and dangerous at the same time. He’s the bad boy girls fall in lust with and don’t mind taking orders from.”

“And Ronin?”

“Ronin’s just hot.” I grin over at him. “He’s the player all the girls want to settle down with. But he’s nice too. If Spence is the bad boy, then Ronin is the good guy. The knight in shining armour, like you said.”

“And me?”

I don’t look at him this time, but I can feel his stare like it’s heat. Waiting. “You’re...predictable.”

He belts out a laugh. “Well, I appreciate the ego stroke, Rook. Thank you.” He gets up and starts to walk down the stairs.

“I wasn’t finished.”

He stops but keeps his back to me.

“Not predictable as in boring or repetitive, but predictable as in safe. Even though I’m always adjusting when I am with you, reevaluating things about myself and ... you.

Spence gets his story too and so does someone else, but I will let you get all the way to the end of Rook & Ronin to read who. So don't errr, panic, there will be more from these lads.

This New Adult series is so freakin’ smexi and different. I recommend it highly. I virtually read each book in one sitting. They are hard to put down.

Me thinks Ford’s book is going to be an eye opener. I may need a fan on.

Stay tuned.

AUTHOR BIO

J. A. Huss likes to write new adult books that make you think and keep you guessing. Her favorite genre to read is space opera, but since practically no one reads those books, she writes new adult science fiction, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, urban fantasy, and books about Junco (who refuses to be saddled with a label).

She has an undergraduate degree in horses, (yes, really–Thank you, Colorado State University) and a master’s degree in forensic toxicology from the University of Florida. She used to have a job driving around Colorado doing pretty much nothing but shooting the breeze with farmers, but now she just writes, runs the New Adult Addiction and Clean Teen Reads Book Blogs, and runs an online science classroom for homeschoolers.
