Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…

That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

“Let me inform you of something,” he says in a low voice. “The moment my lips touch yours, it will be your first kiss. Because if you’ve never felt anything when someone’s kissed you, then no one’s ever really kissed you. Not the way I plan on kissing you.”

I just want to roll around in Colleen Hoover’s brain. Soak up this awesome writing gift she has ...and maybe, just stay a while. Yes, I am unashamedly a Colleen Hoover stalker ( of the harmless garden variety) . The woman, truly, truly...beyond...truly, has a knack with words. She can tear you apart and put you back together and then tear you apart again.

Simply with words.

If you look at this cover, it is already telling you a whole lot about what this book is going to do to you. Look at Sky’s face...... no ...really look at it. Then I want you to read the words as you first see them on the cover. Whisper, ‘Hopeless’ , chant it, slowly building the volume , until you hit the crescendo and you are shouting HOPELESS at nothing.

The story builds, all the characters have something to tell us.

There will be heart aching pain.

I LOVE Breckin. He is Sky’s first alliance. She has many firsts.

I had a ‘Mormon’, friend in high school , like Breckin. They are priceless , loyal friends.

“I’m Breckin,” he says. I’m in an alliance to overtake the public school system and all its minions with your daughter.”

Holder gives him a half smile, but he’s staring at the coffee cup on Breckin’s desk. “I thought Mormon’s weren’t allowed to have caffeine.”

Breckin shrugs. “I decided to break that rule the morning I woke up gay.”

Beautiful Sky, a girl I identify with. She thinks out loud. She doesn’t conform. She isn’t a clone. I spent a lot of the book in my head going ‘No, no , no , no....’. I didn’t want it to be so. I was hoping , praying I was on the wrong track. Colleen doesn’t disappoint , she throws the reader curveballs.

She will sucker punch you in the heart.

You can’t help feeling tense, uncertain, lost, frightened. The story will take you places. Some, may feel it more than others.....for reasons. I felt my chest fill up, become heavy like a stone was resting on it.

“Where’d you go. Sky?”

Colleen’s words weighed me down. Held me trapped with fear.

Dean Holder, the boy whose words will melt your face off. Whose strength and understanding will make you set your prospective boyfriend sights ...higher.

“Sky, I’m not kissing you tonight but believe me when I tell you, I’ve never wanted to kiss a girl more. So stop thinking I’m not attracted to you because you have no idea just how much I am. You can hold my hand, you can run your fingers through my hair, you can straddle me while I feed you spaghetti, but you are not getting kissed tonight. And probably not tomorrow, either. I need this. I need to know for sure that you’re feeling every single thing that I’m feeling the moment my lips touch yours. Because I want your first kiss to be the best first kiss in the history of first kisses.” He pulls my hand up to his mouth and kisses it.

The bar has been raised, people!

“You don’t deserve words, Sky. You deserve actions.”

Sky and Holder are like two old souls, in young bodies. There will NEVER be anybody else for either of them.

“Sometimes you have to choose between a bunch of wrong choices and no right ones. You just have to choose which wrong feels the least wrong.”

“We won’t go any further than this, I promise. But please don’t ask me to stop where we already are. I need to watch you and I need to hear you because the fact that I know you’re actually feeling this right now is so fucking amazing. You feel incredible and this feels incredible and please. Just...please.”

I’m so acutely aware of everything about him in this moment that I’m almost positive I could pick his thumbprint out of a lineup.

You can tell how passionate Colleen is with her writing. No stone is left unturned. I could just picture her sitting there, rereading her work until she was absolutely positive she was going to blow our brains with emotion and make sure we felt the raw pain she puts her characters through. That we, the reader are as connected to her words as she is. I feel like she would expect no less of herself.

It shows.

Oh, it is ...raw. I found myself at 2.00am having a girlie cry, while hubby snored next to me. I for once was grateful for the noise. You can't help 'feel' a part of the story. 'Feel' a part of Sky's pain and loss. It grabs you and squeezes your heart.

Tight.

I want...no, absolutely NEED this book in paper form, currently only digital. The paper back for easy gripping, the hardback, to own such a passionate, beautiful, heart breaking read sitting proudly on my shelf ,and also that book jacket is powerful, painfully beautiful. The paper back to share with my friends, sorry guys the hardback will be off limits, but how could I not share this with you? The hardback that one day WILL hold a signature when we meet face to face. I will be the one unashamedly wearing the stalker t-shirt ( of the harmless garden variety) .

This is a review where I stumbled over my thoughts, I sat staring at the computer screen, for far longer than necessary.

Bottom line.

Read this book.

Discover for yourself, what I had trouble expressing. What I couldn't spoil.

Nicholas Sparks.... Colleen Hoover has entered the building.

Ed Sheeran's song Give Me Love, kept playing in my head with a couple scenes in this book. You will know them when you read them.

Especially the deeper voiced part of the song that repeats over and over 'M-my, M-my, M-my , give me love'. Almost pleading and dark.

 * grabs tissue*

I bought Ed Sheeran's CD for my son for Xmas. I am listening to it while I am mucking about on computer and Kiss Me comes on. I pop over to youtube and check out the lyric vid that the wonderful tubers make and whahhhhh! Slap me up side of silly, to me it fits like a glove for a part of Hopeless.

    1. Oh Brandi you simply must read Colleen Hoover...like MUST! I know there are many books for us bloggers to read...but Slammed, Point of Retreat and Hopeless are just worth parting the river of books we have floating about, part the mountains of books we have stacked high and finding that quiet time to absorb the writing of Colleen Hoover.

      Merry Xmas!!!
