Book Blurb :  Goodreads

MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman.

Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary happens.

When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed–a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae….

As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane–an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women–closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book–because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands….

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle 16th September 2010:

Lisa Sanchez author of 'Eve Of Samhain' recommended the 'Fever'series to us, said they were real good books. I decided to order first three books from The Book Depository and ordered the 4th with over 100 days preorder on paperback( today I paid the big bucks to get the hardback asap) . I settled in and started reading 'Darkfever' book # 1........by 3.45am it was finished ..... WOW!!!!!!

Mackayla aka Mac , lives in Ashford , Georgia. 22years old. Loves wearing rainbow colours and pink, sunbaking and generally being gorgeous. The day she drops her mobile phone in the swimming pool is ............

'When the walls come tumblin' down

When the walls come crumblin' crumblin'....

--- John Cougar Mellencamp

Alina , Mac's sister is murdered in Ireland.....Mac travels to Dublin where life is no longer rainbow and pink. It's dark , deadly and dangerous in the form of Jericho Barrons. Mac doesn't know what her true self is, she arrives in Dublin very naive and needs to grow up in a hurry!!! Mac must take a chance on Barrons and co-exist with him . If he says jump......you jump!!

Mac is essentially alone, facing death every minute of the day as she plunges deeper and deeper into a world existing around her that is getting more darker and deadlier. Mac just wants answers to her sisters grizzly murder. Barrons wants Mac when he says so and where he says so, to do his whim.

Barrons is the mystery character of this story. A closed book. A rough, handsome, determined character. You may ask the questions, he won't necessarily answer them. He is deadly but keeps Mac aka Ms. Lane as he refers to her, on a tight leash . The sexual energy between the two is something to behold. Karen writes it very , very well. You 'feel' the power he carries around with him, the ability to command and get what he wants.

V'Lane is a rather interesting Faerie Prince he has an ability that will make your eyes pop. Please do not think this is a YA book. When V'Lane appears ...

Mac has to figure her life out as it unravels before her eyes and her sisters death. As she learns more about herself , Barrons , Dublin and its 'Dark Zone', there is no going back to Ashford , Georgia. Mac must live every day with the dangerous Barrons and the danger lurking outside her door.

Karen knows how to write characters and to keep them improving and growing, developing more genius story line. It is fast paced, with Barrons energy really enveloping the book. Ms. Lane needs to learn how to assert herself and even if she can, around Barrons. To call each other by their first name is to be personal. This is not personal, this is a means to an end. Barrons doesn't care how much he pushes Ms. Lane...or does he?

This was such an awesome read, I am so glad Lisa recommended it or it may just have passed me by:D

I warn you , have all the four books ready to read. I didn't, and I am suffering for it. The fifth book 'Shadowfever' is due out 2011 . It will be bad enough waiting to continue the story , til then!!

I dare you to read and not 'catch the fever'!!!!

The more you read, the more this song speaks to me volumes about the Fever series.

BLOODFEVER # 2

Details: Paperback, 337 Pages

RATING: 5 STARS !!!! LIBIDO ENHANCING READS!!

Book Blurb: Goodreads

I used to think my sister and I were just two nice southern girls who'd get married in a few years and settle down to a quiet life. Then I discovered that Alina and I descend, not from good wholesome southern stock, but from an ancient Celtic bloodline of powerful sidhe-seers, people who can see the Fae. Not only can I see the terrifying otherworldly race, but I can sense the sacred Fae relics that hold the deadliest of their magic.

When my sister was found dead in a trash-filled alley in Dublin, I came over to get answers. Now all I want is revenge. And after everything I've learned about myself, I know I have the power to get it....

MacKayla Lane's ordinary life underwent a complete makeover when she landed on Ireland's shores and was plunged into a world of deadly sorcery and ancient secrets.

In her fight to stay alive, Mac must find the Sinsar Dubh-a million-year-old book of the blackest magic imaginable, which holds the key to power over both the worlds of the Fae and of Man. Pursued by Fae assassins, surrounded by mysterious figures she knows she cannot trust, Mac finds herself torn between two deadly and irresistible men: V'lane, the insatiable Fae who can turn sensual arousal into an obsession for any woman, and the ever-inscrutable Jericho Barrons, a man as alluring as he is mysterious.

For centuries the shadowy realm of the Fae has coexisted with that of humans. Now the walls between the two are coming down, and Mac is the only thing that stands between them....

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle 17th September 2010:

From 'Darkfever' to 'Bloodfever' I madly devour these books. 2 days 2 books all read to the wee hours.

Mac is still trying to stay alive, carrying her torches with her , holstered on her body. The Spear with her at all times. Never relaxing always waiting, expecting something , the Shades won't let up, always trying to get to her . Mac is growing, learning.

Startling truths will emerge.

Fiona , Barrons employee at Barrons Books and Baubles has decided to show another side to herself, a jealous side . Jealousy festering in the wrong mind can lead to trouble.

Dreamy eyed guy ( from the museum) pops up again in this book. I am trying to figure him out. What is his place or is it just to show Mac can't afford to have a normal relationship. The Garda, local police are starting to take an interest in Mac and Barrons and The Dark Zone. Deaths and missing people are mounting. Unseelie are taking over Dublin. More have been let through, wearing glamour to hide themselves.

Mac is starting to come in to her own. She is starting to realise that she too can keep secrets and bend the truth a little. Barrons is not easy to bluff, but Mac is trying it on for size, her ability to take charge of herself and do what is necessary to survive.

Barrons is still using Mac aka Ms. Lane , toting her around the place as his personal detector for OOPS and the Sinsar Dubh ( She-suh-DOO) , no matter the pain inflicted upon her by the Sinsar Dubh .

What is Barrons hiding ?

V'Lane will inevitably pop up and call in a bargain that Mac and he had struck and Barrons is ropeable. Mac will show Barrons that he won't always get his own way with her, he learns compromise but stays true to being mostly non negotiable. Barrons is letting a slither of a more interested man show through. Just a slither. Not every conversation is tense , there is a smile, a stare of her breasts a hunger in his eyes and a slight of humour. Barrons leaves a mobile for Mac with 3 numbers keyed in titled JB = Jericho Barrons, IYCGM = If you can't get me = Ryodan will answer, IYD = If you're dying . Ryodan will alude to things that makes you stop and think.

New characters are introduced. Are they friend or foe? Will Mac be welcomed or rejected? Will she get the answers she deserves?

Mac will find she has the fight of her life on her hands, the brutality that will be inflicted upon her will be excrutiating . Has it all gone too far? Will the Sinsar Dubh be found added to Barrons collection of OOPS?

Karen continues to write Barrons with such strength and power and to give Mac's character new strength. Nothing slows down in these books.

I can tell you I have finished 'Faefever' bk #3 and yes, in one day. These are not the type of books that let you take a break. Its all or nothing, the momentum of writing is steep. 3 books 3 days they are a blast!!!

FAVE QUOTES:

"One day you may kiss a man you can't breathe without, and find breath is of little consequence."

"Great. then I would be on the run."
"You already are, Ms Lane. You have been ever since your sister died."

If he had been any other man and I'd been any other girl, I'd have called the narrowing of his heavy-lidded dark eyes lust. But he was Barrons and I was Mac, and a blossoming of lust was about as likely as orchids blooming in Antarctica.

"Whether I see the Fae, or whether I'm a man. I believe I've laid your mind to rest on the former; shall I relieve it on the latter?" He reached for his belt.
"Oh please." I rolled my eyes. "You're a leftie, Barrons."
"Touche', Ms. Lane, " he murmured.

And suddenly the sidhe-seer is on the hunt: For answers. For revenge. And for an ancient book of dark magic so evil, it corrupts anyone who touches it. Mac’s quest for the Sinsar Dubh takes her into the mean, shape-shifting streets of Dublin, with a suspicious cop on her tail. Forced into a dangerous triangle of alliance with V’lane, an insatiable Fae prince of lethally erotic tastes, and Jericho Barrons, a man of primal desires and untold secrets, Mac is soon locked in a battle for her body, mind, and soul.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle 21st September 2010:

Book 2, Bloodfever leaves us with Mac with her eyes on the prize, the ever elusive 'Sinsar Dubh' reeking havoc on her senses.

The 'Sinsar Dubh', has taken it up a notch, it is smarter than you think, it yields power you would not wish to meet. Barrons needs Mac to find it and get it. She is his personal OOPS detector in between running 'Barrons' Books and Baubles' , which is her only normalcy in this whole mess that was her life.

Inspector Jayne becomes more prominent and has an interesting 'tea Party' with Mac. It's very hard to know who to trust when reading these books. Barrons comes across so mysterious and unwilling to answer questions. 'Dreamy eyed guy ' is back , I can't place him in this story. Barrons is starting to be noticed by other players, more, something Barrons won't put up with. You learn a slither more about Barrons.

V'Lane naturally strikes again. He has upped it to bikinis and cocktails. I am beginning to think V'Lane becomes Mac's sunshine, his sifting rejuvinates her from all the dark and tenseness and manipulation and power Barrons pours onto Mac. V'Lane wants payment, naturally, he doesn't seem to not be able to resist Mac .He is the only one who does give Mac some answers.

Can he be trusted????

Mac stands mainly on her own two feet in this book. Barrons is goodness knows where, doing goodness knows what as he won't say. Don't expect me home for dinner, or even expect me it's not how he rolls.

Dani 13yr old cussing Sidhe Seer is priceless as Mac's fiesty friend , they are like sisters. Dani believes in Mac and would do anything for her. She in her own right has a power. It's a shame Rowena at Arlington Abbey , Sidhe Seer headquarters doesn't trust and appreciate Mac for the power she is. Mac wants to belong to a group that understands her and to learn what she is. Rowena just doesn't want her . What does Rowena know that we don't know?

Book one has kept me questioning a comment made by Rowena regarding Mac in the bar on their first meet.

Rowena : "The dark Tuatha De! How dare you betray us! And you - an O'Connor, no less! I'll be having a word with your kin, I will!"

It's the dark Tuatha De bit I am interested in...hmmmmm* waggles eyebrows*

There are little one off comments made in these books if you look for them. I have noted them but LOL!! find it hard to piece together when Barrons won't answer any questions Mac asks him.

Barrons appears to continue his one way street with Mac. 'Voicing' Mac . Pain is part of his life, it will be part of her life. He pushes Mac to get results. Is he doing it for the good? It's so hard to tell. But you so can't help really liking the guy. He shows slithers of emotion before he shuts down. Is he that bad......or is it for Mac's sake? I think when his emotions are on the brink of being a danger of showing Mac another side of him he has to make 'put down' , savage remarks to remind himself/stop himself. You feel him holding himself in check.

The 'MacHalo ' was the chapter that made me smile and 'feel' Barrons is okay before it gets quickly removed. He is always there for Mac but I just need him personally to be good. Or not evil, but not too bad. He is constantly saving her showing slithers of emotion when he thinks she can't register it. It's my only bit of hope I have that it's not a one way street , a means to his selfish end. He is lying and slanting the truth but why?

Mac seems to have a friend in Christian Mackeltar, but is he what he appears, can she trust him. Barrons, V'lane and Christian all seem to be interested in which other guy has got their wicked way with Mac. It's kind of a jealousy showing through . Mac repeatedly having to claim her innocence. All three guys snapping at her about who she has bedded.

Karen, I noticed the Spear incident with Mac and Barrons...don't think I didn't see that :D

The ending of this book is just WOW!!!!!!!!!! what more can I say?

Nothing, as I will spoil. Karen likes to leave cliffhangers. WOW!!!!!!!!! maybe the reason I hunted the ebook down:D

FAVE QUOTES:

He cleared his throat and stopped laughing. Then his gaze took a quick dart upward, fixed on my blazing MacHalo , and he lost it again.

I was wearing faded jeans, boots, and a snug pink Juicy T-shirt I got on sale at TJ Maxx last summer that said 'I'm a Juicy girl'
"I bet you are,"he murmured. "Take off your shirt," he said,...

"What are you?" It burst out before I could stop myself. I knew it was wasted breath. "Why don't you just tell me and get it over with?"I said irritably.
"One day you'll stop asking me. I think I'll like knowing you then."

"I don't trust you!"
"And you think I trust you? You haven't been out of ... diapers long enough to be trusted, Ms Lane! I'm not even sure you should be allowed to handle sharp objects!"

"Now tell me who you are."
"Vengeance," I said in a cold voice.

He shook me hard. "You have no business looking forward to pink cakes. That's not your world anymore. Your world is hunting the Book and staying alive. They're mutually exclusive, you bloody fool."

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle 21st September 2010:

I must start by saying how much I am truly enjoying these books. So much that I could not wait for bk 4 to be released on paperback ( over 100 days, yes it is on order) , I ordered hardback, then couldn't wait the whole week for it to arrive. I was quite bouncy, agitated, needed to know!!!! I ended up with Ebook and I sat at my computer for hours on end reading and scrolling as WOW!!!! these books are worth it. These books are true 'one sitting' reads. Start to finish..boom!!!. I can't even fathom waiting a year between books, it seems cruel and unecessary. I have read them all , apart from bk #5 Shadowfever in rapid succession which makes for one hell of a ride. Once you get to the end of bk 4 you are kinda left in limbo...teetering...quite not sure of what to do with oneself as you know it's your own fault for reading them so quickly , not waiting until bk 5 was available, but once you start , there is no stopping..be WARNED!!!!

"I get knocked down, but I get up again,

You're never gonna keep me down

I get knocked down, but I get up again,

You're never gonna keep me down..."

----Chumbawamba - Tubthumping

Little Dani, trustworthy, loyal to the core becomes Mac's hope, protector. You come to realise what a power force little Dani is, a little legend a true warrior.

Mac is mentally lost , she doesn't exist anymore after the LM has finished with her.

Rowena still will not accept Mac, even in the state she has been left. Dani can only try. A broken little sex crazed doll of a shell of Mac is all that's left. She is an animal that must be satiated.

It's very touching and quite emotional to watch Mac brought back from the brink of sex crazed death. Mac makes an explosive comeback and is mad as all hell!!! What is trust??? It's been obliterated in her eyes.

What side is V'Lane on? Truths emerge hidden deep inside Barrons about his past. We get a glimpse into his soul. Barrons doesn't much like it either. What is up with V'Lane and Barrons?

Inspector Jayne has gone all Rambo and formed a possie attempting to stand his ground . His contribution to taking back Dublin and what the Garda stood for and he's liking the look of the Spear.

Alina's journal pages keep ending up on Mac's doorstep. Who can she trust apart from Dani? V'Lane, is he trustworthy? Barrons still will not answer Mac. "It's complicated". What sort of an answer is that? She deserved much better. Are lies /slanting of truth still spilling from Barrons lips? Mac is thinking the worst of Barrons, but does he deserve it? Barrons is hurting emotionally. To hide it is to be savage/tough with his words, usually directed at Mac.

Mac and Dani can only trust each other taking matters into their own hands, which is not necessarily a good idea. Do they get them or just more cryptic comments and threats?

Darroc aka LM has more instore for Mac. Darroc is relentless in his pursuit for the Book, the Sinsar Dubh. What is Barrons up to? Why does Barrons mind/past keep getting hacked into? What does the insight gained mean? Barrons needs Mac to fight, fight to get through this. To be 'voiced' is her undoing, she needs to be strong, unleash some of the power that she supposedly possesses, but doesn't understand. V'Lane, does he know more than he is letting on about Mac?

What does the old lady see?

Barrons has a plan, will it work ? Sometimes IYD isn't all it's cracked up to be.

The Fever series is a carnival ride, the Mad Mouse, sharps twists and turns and plummets of emotions at every book. I have the Fever bad!!! Will I survive until book 5 Shadowfever makes an appearance???

Don't expect alot of your questions answered in this book, they won't be. Barrons simply doesn't answer Mac. Expect a thrilling , erotic ride that doesn't slow down even at the end. This book is shrouded in mystery but one hell of a ride:D '

Heed my warning !! If you can't handle the Fever, then wait til you have 5 books to read in rapid succession. If you are tough , Mac style, then enjoy the first 4 and be left waiting for the 5th, as I have. I shall be rereading many times over until the 5th book is released.

FAVE QUOTES:

His tongue is in my mouth , and it's tearing apart my soul.
Helpmesomeonepleasehelpmemakehimstopmakethemgoaway.

"Ah , Mac," he says, and his laughter is as dark and cold as the place of which I dream, "one day you will wonder if it's possible to hate me more."

He makes a pained sound. "Bloody hell, woman, I think a part of me wants to keep you this way."

"Revenge ," he says softly. "They took too much. You give up and die, or learn how to take back. Revenge, Mac."

Come back and fight , Mac. Bloody hell, fight! If you'd just fight like you ***, you'd've walked out of this room the day I carried you in!"

"Don't leave me, "I thrash in the sheets.
"I'm not Mac."...

... "You 're leaving me, Rainbow Girl."

Karen was killing me with these quotes.

MacKayla Lane was just a child when she and her sister, Alina, were given up for adoption and banished from Ireland forever.

Twenty years later, Alina is dead and Mac has returned to the country that expelled them to hunt her sister’s murderer. But after discovering that she descends from a bloodline both gifted and cursed, Mac is plunged into a secret history: an ancient conflict between humans and immortals who have lived concealed among us for thousands of years.

What follows is a shocking chain of events with devastating consequences, and now Mac struggles to cope with grief while continuing her mission to acquire and control the Sinsar Dubh—a book of dark, forbidden magic scribed by the mythical Unseelie King, containing the power to create and destroy worlds.

In an epic battle between humans and Fae, the hunter becomes the hunted when the Sinsar Dubh turns on Mac and begins mowing a deadly path through those she loves.

Who can she turn to? Who can she trust? Who is the woman haunting her dreams? More important, who is Mac herself and what is the destiny she glimpses in the black and crimson designs of an ancient tarot card?

From the luxury of the Lord Master’s penthouse to the sordid depths of an Unseelie nightclub, from the erotic bed of her lover to the terrifying bed of the Unseelie King, Mac’s journey will force her to face the truth of her exile, and to make a choice that will either save the world . . . or destroy it.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle 5th February 2011:

How do you do a review of Shadowfever without spoilers? I shall attempt to do this, I know I can. It's a book of long awaited answers to the mystery of it's characters and story .

I can't thank Lisa Sanchez , author of 'Eve of Samhain' ( pronounced Sowwhen) and 'Pleasures Untold', for recommending the first 4 books..... enough. Thanks bb!!!! It would be so sad to know that this series and I could have been like ships in the night, passing each other but never meeting.

Oh , the emotions you will feel reading 'Shadowfever', the final book in the series. Lisa recommended to me having the following items before reading:

Alcohol - to calm myself as intense read.
Pillow - to punch or scream into ( I had excellent European sized pillow that worked a treat)
Tissues - To dry the eyes... :( :( : (

I aptly named this , ' The Shadowfever Kit'. I have past the kit information on to my friends who are very serious about putting their kit together ... and so they should be:D

The emotions I felt when reading this book were, WT!!!!, O.M.G!!, sob!, I laughed, I was POWed!! stunned like a deer in headlights, absolutely flawed...the list goes on. My pillow got punched!!! My kit got used!! But most importantly I was totally satisfied by all the answers and reasons.

Karen , you are a writing Goddess!!!

Mac's character has grown from Darkfever (MAC 1.0) to Shadowfever ( MAC 5.0)...... so well. Barrons character has always been written with so much strength and power you felt when reading him. The story from 'Darkfever' to 'Shadowfever' , was the most challenging, well thought out book series , I personally have read. I like an easy read like the next person. I love reading YA, Middle level, Hot Tamale reads. This series is just something else. It kept me so entertained. The discussions for weeks, months , that I had with bloggers, friends, other readers was a lot of fun with all the theories thrown around.

The classic question being , 'what is Barrons?'

I love , Dani's character. It maybe just me, but when I read her I had a voice for her in my head ( don't laugh, I am very sane) her dialogue which really set her little character apart from the other sidhe-seers , would be in my head when reading and it made her character a lot of fun to read.

I thought Karen Moning did the most magnificent writing to get 4 books of answers and mystery to be totally satisfyingly answered in one book. She did not waste words. There were very intense times where I just had to read slowly as the story unravelled, details were thoroughly written in black and white.

I did shed a tear ( I always knew I would ), when I read those words...'The End'...but!!!!...there were 2 more words that followed which made me also go WT!!!!????...then I read the acknowledgments ( as I like to do) ...and then...I read , 'About The Author', (as I also like to do) and there it was written in black and white...a hope...I had a grin from ear to ear, the words..."and is currently working on a new series set in the Fever world and a graphic novel featuring Mackayla Lane."

Oh I can't wait:D
