Darynda Jones, author of The New York Times bestselling series that began with First Grave on the Right, brings us Death and the Girl Next Door, a thrilling Young Adult novel garnering high praise and early buzz from major authors

Ten years ago, Lorelei's parents disappeared without a trace. Raised by her grandparents and leaning on the support of her best friends, Lorelei is finally beginning to accept the fact that her parents are never coming home. For Lorelei, life goes on.

High school is not quite as painful as she thinks it will be, and things are as normal as they can be. Until the day the school's designated loner, Cameron Lusk, begins to stalk her, turning up where she least expects it, standing outside her house in the dark, night after night. Things get even more complicated when a new guy—terrifying, tough, sexy Jared Kovach—comes to school. Cameron and Jared instantly despise each other and Lorelei seems to be the reason for their animosity. What does Jared know about her parents? Why does Cameron tell Jared he can't have Lorelei? And what will any of them do when Death comes knocking for real? Thrilling, sassy, sexy, and inventive, Darynda Jones's first foray into the world of teens will leave readers eager for the next installment.

"Unique, witty, and touching—I LOVED THIS BOOK!" —P.C. Cast, New York Times bestselling author of The House of Night Series

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle :

I read this book from Netgalley and darn it I wish I had a paperback copy in my hands so that I could have shown you all the sticky coloured flag note thingys that would have been plastered all over the pages. The noted quote pages just kept piling up in my notebook. Darynda spews forth such wonderful quotes from her characters.

I will read anything Darynda writes as she just has this wonderful humour she injects into her pages. I adore her Charlie Davidson, adult,Urban Fantasy series. Now, Darynda is writing the Dark Light series and her characters are loveable and funny and dark.

Where there is good there is bad.

The setting for this tale is Riley’s Switch, New Mexico.

The height of our fun trio is five feet , their age, 16, right across the board. The short, Three Muskateers.

Lorelei, Brooklyn and Casey Niyol Blue-Spider ( yes, that is his name, don’t laugh) aka The Glitch, are a team of friends that stick together through thick and thin. I likened in my mind them to the ICarly trio, Carly, Sam and Freddie....well, err.... except, Lorelei has pasty white skin and curly auburn hair. Brooklyn has dark skin, brown eyes and long sable hair. The Glitch is a child of two nations, half Native American, half Irish with dark coppery skin and hazel green eyes.

What I mean, is, the way they all look out for each other and bicker and talk smart mouth to each other. Maybe I shouldn’t have used the ICarly thing. Lorelei’s parents disappeared ten years prior and the week before the anniversary of their disappearance and the week after, Glitch and Brooklyn are there 24/7 for Lorelei as it is a difficult time for her. Lorelei lives with her grandparents and has these two wonderful endearing friends.

Lorelei has visions and her two friends know virtually everything there is to know about each other.....or do they?

Brooklyn and Glitch have a great .... LOL, friendship. Brooklyn just eats Glitch up with her snark. The guy is crushing badly, you know that whole, ‘when best buds starts to take a turn and nobody is wising up.’ This makes for some funny and also awwww, ‘poor Glitch’ moments.

Enter Cameron Lusk, Mr Stalker. Shoulder length blonde hair, sophomore. Lorelei has known Cameron since she was a little tacker, but now he is showing stalker qualities. Something has gone down with Glitch and Cameron and this remains a mystery. The more you read into the book, the more it is a thing I want to know the answer to.

Intriguing , much.

Now enter , dark haired Hottie!!! Humma, Humma!! Talk, dark and muscular and tattooed. Air high five!

Sounds like a lovely recipe for a lad, doesn’t it?

I don’t want to give away any of the story because this book just kept evolving. Where you start , to where the story winds up in this first instalment, is , well, far from the start. Lots of curveballs and sub characters that come into the mix and lovely surprises await you.

And you will LAUGH! and you will go EEeeepp!!

There is all this ‘all is not what it seems’, with a big bag of funnies thrown in. There is this wonderful take on the thing I can’t say, well several things.

Now you might look at the title of this book and think you are a smarty pants and have it pretty much sussed in your brain...well, no!

Darynda has a lovely creative take on her tale. I can’t wait to see where she takes me.

I love Cameron and Dark dude. Now what I love is we think there is a love triangle from the cover...........well......maybe not the triangle you assume. *raises one eyebrow* That is if there is a triangle?

This book comes with a bag of funnies and a bag of surprises. I can’t wait for , ‘Death Doom and Detention’, due for release March 2013. Now considering this one isn’t released yet.....oh the pain of the wait J

FAVE QUOTES: I’ll have to hold myself back.....

The realisation of what these two buttheads must have been doing for the past two days sparked a fury inside me. I had been so worried, sick with it. And these two geniuses spent the entire time in a pissing contest?

She scowled at Cameron. “First you wanted to kill him because he was going to take her. Now you want to kill him because he didn’t. Bipolar much?

She raised the gun farther, her hand shaking. But Glitch and I were right by her side, Glitch with his bravado and me with my fists. If she got clobbered, we all got clobbered.

“Trust me, “ Cameron cut in, “there ain’t a thing wrong with those two, unless you count the unusual and exquisite length of their legs.”

Brooklyn turned a tight-lipped smile on him. “Thanks so much for that penis-driven observation.”

“Anytime, moon-pie”, he said with a smirk. “Jealous?”

“You are wine on my tongue and honey in my veins, I cannot get enough of you.” He leaned forward and whispered in my ear. His warm breath sent shivers cascading over my body. “You intoxicate me, Lorelei McAlister. You will be my downfall.”

“I wonder what they’re up to.”

“I wonder what it’s like to have the intelligence of squirrel feces.”
