RANDOM POSTING # 26 Have you ever repositioned a fave book of yours in a shop shelf?

Now, I am going to go out on a limb here and think I am not the only one who has felt the need to move one of their fave books into more opportune eye sight.
Big W , is my store I frequent quite often due to the prices being very reasonable and to my utter shock...and horror...and well SHOCK!  I found FORSAKEN , The Demon Trappers books by Jana Oliver were not getting fair trading appeal.

You know how those little green orb cameras that are attached to the ceiling tiles of department stores are GOING to be watching what you are up to...I didn't care. I gently moved the other books along the shelf that covers were facing the customer and poor Forsaken's binding was the only thing showing..so look left...look right..I didn't care about looking up...I knew I was being observed...lol!!! and I made room for one of my fave books to be stood on its ..errr.. feet for eyes to see the gorgeous cover with Elizabeth May on it....then I felt all was right ..and left with my chin in the air...thinking some security dude is going to be shaking his head....

What have you done for one of your fave books in a department store or book shop...come on...I can't be the only one......can I ?

  1. Ooh, I've done this too! I moved Nightlight - a parody of Twilight by the Harvard Lampoon - to cover the Twilight series. I also switch around some of my library's featured books with Maureen Johnson and John Green's novels. I like to think someone out there has benefited from this!

  2. A friend and I did something similiar in Big W. Ours was a complete mess, books were just shoved everywhere. Finding the complete Vampire Academy set was quite the task. So we fixed them up and actually got series together AND in order. One of the staff walked by looking at us like we were weird. The order didn't last though, next time we went in it had been mixed up all over again.

  3. I'm glad I'm not the only one:D I have to admit, I do chat to my blog partner , Marissa and tell her how messy my Big W shelves are...I tell her all the time how I want to straighten them up:D

Good to see Brett the enthusiasm in tidying those shelves.

Nice to see Skye that some library features got sorted...lol!!!

  4. @Michelle - LOL. Thanks! I can just imagine what the security dude was thinking. I admit that I've moved my friends' books around a bit to show off their covers.

@Skye - I had no idea there was a lampoon of TWILIGHT. I will have to check it out!

  5. I have actually told people in the shop that a book is really good and they should buy it. I think it was Hunger Games trilogy or TMI. If it is one I want but haven't got I actually hide it so nobody else buys it

  6. Like Brett I have also tidied up shelves in a number of bookshops and made sure that series were in order. It irritates me when books are haphazardly shoved onto a shelf.

  7. @jana I could feel him shaking his head..hee..hee.

@carolyn Spruking of books is very acceptable.

@shelagh Another shelf tidier, lol!!. I do get annoyed when books are looking messy, I shake my head when covers are crinkled.

    Thanks for the comments, I'm glad I don't have a problem..lol!!!

  8. First off OMG i LOVE forsaken by Jana Oliver!! I'm soooo excited for Forbidden to come out Aug 5th (I Live in the UK), and I've already pre-ordered it on Amazon! It's actually one of the rare times I'm happy i do live in the UK because we get to read it like a month earlier yayyy :) I remember a couple of months ago, a book cover really caught my eye because it looked really pretty, so I picked this book up and read the blurb at the back. It sounded sooo interesting but I hadn't come out with my purse, because I hadn't intended to buy anything (just window shopping!!). So anyway, I really like the sound, and look, of this book but there's only one copy left. So what do I do? I walk around with this book until i get to the travel books and maps aisle, the only aisle which is mostly ignored thanks to sat navs, and shove it behind one of the maps there. I think it was called 'A Rough Guide to Andalucia - 7th Ed.' I ended up going back with some money after a quick drive home, and nearly running an old woman over who crossed the road way too slowly for my liking, and purchased this book. It was in fact called 'Born At Midnight' by C.C Hunter and I'm so glad I did what I did because It's an amazing book!!

  10. I love books with beautiful covers and the superb stories just waiting to be discovered. They are physically appealing, and I am completely drawn to them. I can't bear the thought of these wonderful books being lost between the stacks, gathering dusk just because they weren't getting noticed. If it's a stand-alone I need them placed in some sort of order, whether alphabetically, serially or genre. A paranormal shouldn't be competiting for attention with a contemporary. I also need series placed in order to be read, it's almost a small crime to pick up a book thinking it is a stand-alone, get home read it and feel like something is missing. Yes, it's other half! Or halves, whichever the case. I call it my mission to improve literacy. When I am at my library, I see to it that my favourite books are displayed in all their glory. There are tables and glass holdings on the side aisles and I make it a point of positioning them there. There, mission accomplished, my random act of literary kindness. I hope these books go to good homes, return and get adopted again :)

  12. I love reading Babe In Boyland so much that I couldn't help repositioning it at a higher place so that people can notice it easily when I saw it in a book store one day. A girl came by and took a look at the books shelved. I pointed towards Babe In Boyland and asked her if she had read the book. She smiled and shook her head in response. I went on to praise the book and said that it was a hilarious and witty book. We chatted for some time, exchanged blog addresses and Facebook account names. Later, she went out of the bookstore with Babe In Boyland in her arms. That was how I met my book buddy, Zhe Wei.

  13. If a bookstore has to order in a book for me, I ensure it turns into such a performance, getting as many people as possible involved. It's like street theatre at times. People take notice that's for sure. SO much fun.

  14. Just straightened them out. BUT my favorite book ever, is autographed to me, an ARC of Nightshade by Andrea Cremer that I got in June of 2010. Had not even heard of it then I loved it. its in the safe. Extreme I know, but I tell you what, if my house were on fire that is the one book I would want saved.

  15. Some great reasons everybody from tshirts. to exchanging blog addresses, well done. Keep them coming. I am so glad I am normal. And ! just for the record my repositioning of Forsaken ..it's just as I left it...so I did good. Mind you it is on the side that has Diary of a Wimpy Kid and books of that level, not on the YA side, but baby steps . I can't really scratch the barcode for Forsaken off the shelf and move it...security may chase me...lol!!! It does annoy me .

  16. Well, i'm not very proud of what i'm going to confess... In my local bookstore, they have a bookshelf ONLY for books on promotion, well then, I found a book I really wanted, Halo by Alexandra Adornetto, and what I did was move it to another section and hide it in the middle of a lot of big books, i was planning on buying it the next day, i didn't had money on me, because sometimes just like to go and see what they have, thank God no one noticed, and now I have that book in my hands, with discount lol

  17. I did this a while ago, you know those standing wooden shelves in borders? You can walk all the way around them, and recent release paperbacks on them. I don't even remember what book I wanted, but there was only 1 copy on the shelf, but a bunch down below on these little shelves that are supposed to hold the "overflow", so I moved all the books that were there to the bottom and pulled up the one I went for and filled all the spaces with that one. I wish I could remember it, but it was a while back. I felt I should share the love, hopefully it sold more copies that day! :) Artesia at comcast dot net

  18. I have rearranged copies of some of my favourite author's books to display them more prominently. The most recent one was Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts.I also keep recommending books to my local librarian and the employees in book stores who checkout my purchases (and are always astounded at how often I visit and how many books I leave with). Apparently, it's odd for me to know the titles of books and debut authors whose books haven't been shipped into the country yet. Just this week, I saw a massive sale going on at this book store I don't usually frequent because it doesn't offer benefits for buying that my usual book store does. I wlaked in out of curiosity and spotted at least 5 books that were on my wish list and were on sale. Unfortunately, I was out on an errand with my parents and left my wallet in the car. I'd seen copies of The Summoning and The Reckoning by Kelley Armstrong on sale and had to have them! Since I didn't have my wallet and dad was in a hurry, I had to leave without them. I reluctantly set the books back down, trying as best as I could to hide them from immediate view in the vain hope that they would not be spotted and purchased before I got back the next day (wallet in hand). My brother (my hero!) was kind enough to take me to store the next while running his errands and I immediately attacked the Sale table, hoping and praying that the copies were still there. After 10 minutes frantically scanning the table and groping around for the books, I was almost in tears and ready to just walk away when I realised that they were hidden among a pile of books with similar dark covers and that was how I'd missed them.I was so relieved and elated to finally have them in hand. They now proudly sit on my shelf. So maybe hiding them helped. I was also complimented for my excellent choice in books on checking out and even managed to recommend The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner to the young lady serving me me at the counter:)

  19. Oh wow! Mine isn't as cool. However I have been known tto stop a stranger....or two (ok maybe even three!) and recommend a book or two. Even if they don't look like they need a recommendation! Word of mouth is the best advertising. Rbcca19@hotmail.com
