Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with every one out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

A friend told me if I didnt read these books she would cry..so I did.
WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! I loved The Hunger Games. I found it original , fast paced and to survive is not easy. Suzanne is the type of author who will let children die, loved characters die. You don't know what is coming until it hits you. I am glad to hear it will be a movie but have my fingers crossed that it won't be ruined. Children must kill other children to survive whatever the mental cost later on. Haymitch is brilliant. I don't think I had a team in this book. Peeta all the way....It is a little sci-fi with the Capitol...I don't normally read sci-fi but this was an excellent read.
Its amazing how characters in the Capitol had no conscience..killing children was okay. I am trying to get a friend to read them but she was fearful of the fact children kill children, I was too. I thought how will Suzanne write this book...just brilliantly. Don't be afraid to read it because of the childrens need to kill to survive, it is written superbly. No disappointment here. A HUGE!! fave of mine:D
