Bestselling author Claudia Gray’s Evernight series continues. In Hourglass, Bianca and Lucas have found a way to be together. But it means lying to the people who care about them the most.

After escaping from Evernight Academy, the vampire boarding school, Bianca and Lucas seek refuge with Black Cross, the elite group of vampire hunters led by Lucas’s stepfather. When Bianca’s close friend—the vampire Balthazar—is captured by Black Cross, Bianca knows she has to do whatever it takes to save him. But at what cost?

Hourglass, the third book in this gripping vampire series by the author of the New York Times bestseller Stargazer, has all the romance, suspense, and page-turning drama that have made Claudia Gray’s books runaway successes.

BOOK REVIEW:

‘Hourglass’ has betrayal, deceit, secrets, a nice healthy dose of smexi, some ‘nummy num num’, a tear may slide down your cheek, love, ‘needle in a haystack’ of happiness amongst fighting for freedom from Black Cross and a life of constant running with a dose of ‘ewwwww’, thrown in.

Let’s face it, everybody loves Balthazar, I like to call him Balthy or as some girls like to call him, Bath Tub boy, but, the lad needs to grow a ‘set’, if he is to compete with Lucas’s unconditional love for Bianca. I love Balthy, but Lucas is the guy for Bianca. I am sooo happy Balthy is getting his own spin off, aptly named , ‘Balthazar’, then I can have my ‘Team Bath Tub Boy’, shirt.

I love Claudia Gray’s writing. It is a joy to read. The excitement and POW’s and twists or as a friend likes to call them, ‘curve balls’ that Claudia injects with enthusiasm into her writing makes reading her ‘Evernight’ series, great fun.

I have ‘Afterlife ‘, in my hot little hands and am just about to dive in and read the last book in the series, with a little sadness, as it’s the end of the line, last stop...except for Balthy, he gets his spin off so getting all bouncy waiting for that to hit the streets.

In ‘Hourglass’, Charity , aka ‘psycho goldilocks’ , as a dear friend of mine refers to her , sorry Claudia, the name has stuck....hee..hee, has stepped it up. Balthazar has his hands full with little sis, I think the excuses bucket has run dry for that ones behaviour. How long can Lucas and Bianca keep her little secret from Black Cross? Talk about keeping your friends close, your enemies closer.

Bianca is starting to wake up to a lot of things that mum and dad kept hidden or glossed over from her. Vampires are dangerous and deadly, not all, but Charity is an example of why ‘Black Cross’ exist.

‘Black Cross’, need to settle down and wake up to not all Vampires deserve to be cut down then ask questions later. Bianca deserves to live.

Mummy and Daddy have been keeping some awesome secrets and aren’t doing Bianca any favours by keeping them. Bianca and Lucas are like the blind leading the blind. Answers may come too late....

Anybody for pigeon... sushi style? Love to see Aussie characters in books even if they are murderous red heads...lol! I love Dana, she is a great chick to have on your side, solid and loyal and has a conscience. Vic and Ranulf are my great characters from the Evernight series. Vic makes more of an appearance than Ranulf. I just want to take Vic home and adopt him...lol!! One particular piece of jewellery , I think Charity is going to want to get her hands on in ‘Afterlife’.

I am hopeful that Vic gets more of a story in ‘Afterlife’. It just appears that there may be a lead in to him getting a little side story with a certain somebody. I may be wrong.

I always note when I read a book and one scene I wrote, “very , very sad..sob”, I think I cried. ( I say I think , so I don’t sound like a wuss, it was four words that did it.)

The way ‘Hourglass’, ended, it’s pretty clear, ( get it...* rolls eyes*) that ‘Afterlife’, is going to be a very exciting book. Bianca and Lucas will have to find themselves ( terrible puns, I know) and deal with the cards that have been dealt to them. I read Evernight, Stargazer and Hourglass quite awhile ago and had to recap to write reviews as soo much happens within the pages. Admittedly Evernight took a little bit to get going, but pay attention, once it does it takes off it explodes. I would recommend having all books available to read one after the other.

I’m getting ready now to snuggle down and take the final ride in Evernight series, stay tuned for ‘Afterlife”, book review.

FAVE QUOTES:

“Pull it together, man. What are you doing asleep at eleven A.M.?”

“As you recall, I am the proverbial night owl. Sleeping until noon is not only my right but my responsibility,” Vic said.

I felt like a major badass --- at least, for the second it took Charity to grab me from behind.

“Considering how hot and heavy we’ve been every time I saw your fangs, I have to say I kinda like seeing you like that.”

“I’m gonna want both versions,” Dana said. “And you can top them off with the long-ass director’s cut version when those are done....”

We were speechless. Lucas finally said, “You knew you were surrounded by vampires --- and that didn’t bother you?”

Vic shrugged. “Judge not, man.”

I tossed the rat’s corpse into the garbage can and hurriedly fished some mints out of my bag. The last thing I wanted was rat breath.

“You were the one good thing, the only good thing I ever found.”

“You know if this weren’t so dangerous, it would be really cool.”

Ranulf nodded. “that is the manner in which I roll.” ( classic!!)

To Ranulf, Vic said, “ Remember what I said about social conformity being the prison of the mind?”

“Vic, we need to be armed for this. Can you fight?”

Vic didn’t look thrilled by the idea. “Uh, I took karate ---“

“That’s awesome!”

“--- for two months,” Vic continued. “When I was seven.......doesn’t count, huh?”

Ranulf said. “I do not think Vic should attempt to stake any vampires. He would be unlikely to survive.”

“ I would resent that if it were any less true,” Vic said.

“All young men among the Vikings were taught to fight.”

Vic slowly said, “ This is why you kick so much ass at World of Warcraft, isn’t it?”
