BOOK REVIEW BY Michelle:

What do, apples, wards and a school have in common?

A missing student.

Ashlynn , a student has gone missing and Kate fronts up with Julie and gives her the assignment.

Find the mising girl.

I really liked this far too short read.

I really like Yu Fong.

Brook and Barka got me interested to know more.

This was like a mini, mini teaser for a YA spinoff with Julie at the helm. Or, a possible Julie book when she is older. Now, I always felt that Julie was being tucked away for further use in the future, but reading this wee short novella, I thought Julie really opened my eyes to her capabilities.

She really read like a mini Kate.

I drove my fist hard into his gut. The boy folded around my fist with a surprised gasp. I slammed my hand onto his head, driving his head down. Face meet knee. Boom! The impact reverberated through my leg.

Isn’t Julie only twelve?

Well, I don’t know about a spinoff, but I sure could read one with this bunch of characters.

I can so see Yu Fong as leading guy material and Barka seemed like he could tickle my funny bone.

I did however notice Julie made a comment about Derek.

I knew Kate and Curran and even Derek, the dimwit, would come to rescue me.

Derek, the dimwit. Hmmm. Is there a possible crush there? I was always wondering if the Ilona Andrews team were saving Derek for Julie when she is older, but after reading Yu Fong...I am rather liking the sound of him too.

A great little novella that opened my eyes to Julie being more than a sub character.

Next up : Magic Gifts # 5.4

This novella takes place at the same time as Andrea’s book, right after MAGIC SLAYS, and the two stories intersect.

A dinner date after a hard day at work sounds heavenly. Of course, when that date is between the Beast Lord and Kate Daniels, things don’t go as planned. Before you know it, undead are running amok, heads are being chopped off, lawyers are deployed and used with extereme prejudice, and drunk vikings are calling people out.

Read at your own risk.

MAGIC GIFTS appears as a bonus in the back of GUNMETAL MAGIC, Andrea’s book # 5.5
