Atlanta would be a nice place to live, if it weren't for the magic. When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it arose.

Kate Daniels works for the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, officially as a liaison with the mercenary guild. Unofficially, she cleans up the paranormal problems no one else wants to handle - especially if they involve Atlanta's shapeshifting community. When she's called in to investigate a fight at the Steel Horse, a bar on the border between the territories of the shapeshifters and the necromancers, Kate quickly discovers that there's a new player in town. One who's been around for thousands of years - and who rode to war at the side of Kate's father. This foe may be too much even for Kate and Curren, the Beast Lord, to handle. Because this time Kate will be taking on family.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

Hallelujah!

Praise The Lord!

Curran and Kate actually make it into the sack in this installment.

Now, I am not being a perv, it is just unusual for an Urban Fantasy series with a guy like Curran who is all ALPHA and a chick like Kate who is in her own right an Alpha type character and an adult series to boot, to not get a little horizontal tango time going on.

Booyah!!

Once I finished Magic Bleeds I took the time to analyse. Yes, I analysed Kate and Curran’s relationship from what I garnered from this installment.

My thoughts:

Kate is all woman and she fights for those she cares about. She never backs down and accepts challenges placed in front of her. She is fierce in this book and has a very fierce competitor in the villain who is very skilled and quite a match for Kate.

She has a big sword.

Curran is off doing his Alpha shiz like he normally does in each book. He pops his head in from time to time and , usually towards the end of each book they battle side by side as Curran can’t let Kate have all the fun.

* whispers * Plus he likes her.

Curran totally digs Kate and doesn’t want to have her running from him, so he takes his Lion time and spends four books slowly courting her, even though he is a little deceiving with his courting.

Anyone for soup?

Time to move some furniture about.

Right back at ya!

That kind of tells me a lot about Curran. If he can’t feel that he can court her out in the open, then he knows he has to take it slow and deal with winning Kate over.

He knows Kate has to let her walls down and come to him with her heart. I think Curran was sold a lot earlier on with Kate than she was on him.

What I loved about this book is we saw Kate make Curran, The Beast Lord compromise.

“I don’t do collapsing.”

“Of course not. What was I thinking...”

His voice was rock-steady. “We don’t live in a safe-world. I can’t give you the white picket fence, and if I did, you’d set it on fire.”

The lad knows what he needs to agree to, to have Kate in his life. He can’t cage her. He can’t make demands of her. He has to tread carefully, or he will spook her.

She isn’t one of his ‘females’ who he beds, because he can at the snap of his fingers. Kate knows very well who Curran is, but she doesn’t bow just because he is THE BEAST LORD.

She makes him work for it.

Curran is only six years older than Kate. It is time to settle down. But he needs Kate to come to him. They get off to a rocky start with tempers flying over a dinner date that fell apart.

The first sign of Kate’s heart hurting.

But in true Kate style she won’t let Curran explain, she just goes about trying to save those in need, while Curran tries hard with modern technology to connect with her.

HA!

Talk to the hand cause the face don't wanna know.

I love Grendel. This was another way of us seeing Kate needs to love something. Julie was the other example.

I am totally seeing something with Derek and Julie. Not in a book 5 way, but in maybe a spin off, or a book when she is old enough. There were hints of ...something in this book. I always watch for little seeds being dropped in story line. Maybe I am wrong? Maybe it has already been written, hehee! I am still catching up on this series and I stay away from future book blurbs.

Time will tell .

Derek is a loved character and Julie seems to be tucked away for safe keeping until needed.

Derek nodded at the vehicle. “Who is that?”

“Your replacement.”

He led me away from the front gate to a narrow side door.

“You replaced me with a shaved poodle?”

“He’s got mad skills.”

I do enjoy a good kick ass fight scene. We get those in each of the books in this installment. I do have this thing where I kind of dislike the power of healing. I like a character to get a good biffing where they need help.

Healing powers kinda makes it all a bit easy to get beaten to a pulp within an inch of your life and then let somebody fix you up.

Good as new.

I would love to see Kate be without that healing Doc Doolittle and see her struggle to stay alive. Brings more meaning to her being belted up and then fixed up. Can be a bit too easy sometimes.

I think I want to see Curran more involved with the series. I know it is the Kate Daniels series. I get that. She is numero uno on the pages, but I feel like I am missing Curran on the pages.

Maybe now, we might see more of Curran gracing the pages.

What I love about the Night Huntress series is Bones and Cat get quite a lot of time together on the pages. Bones is a very commanding character and so is Cat. I want to see Curran be more impressive on paper.

He is after all... *stands with legs wide and fists on hips*

 THE BEAST LORD

I have really grown to love Kate. She is very selfless, she assesses situations and just goes in and does what needs to be done. She cares more than she wants people to know. She can have hurt feelings, and be tired and pushed to the limit, but she dusts herself off and goes and does what needs to be done.

I’m in for the long haul on this series. I’m very interested to see what happens from that ending.

Visually always colorful and Kate has earned her Urban Fantasy stripes. She is kickass and would seem unbeatable.

Will villains take a vacation long enough for Kate to get her HEA?

Crikey! Kate got a boob job!
Plagued by a war between magic and technology, Atlanta has never been so deadly. Good thing Kate Daniels is on the job.

Kate Daniels may have quit the Order of Merciful Aid, but she’s still knee-deep in paranormal problems. Or she would be if she could get someone to hire her. Starting her own business has been more challenging than she thought it would be—now that the Order is disparaging her good name, and many potential clients are afraid of getting on the bad side of the Beast Lord, who just happens to be Kate’s mate.

So when Atlanta’s premier Master of the Dead calls to ask for help with a vampire on the loose, Kate leaps at the chance of some paying work. Turns out this is not an isolated incident, and Kate needs to get to the bottom of it—fast, or the city and everyone dear to her might pay the ultimate price . . .

  1. LOL on the first line! This year is going to be a series binge year for me. I'm almost done with Lords of Deliverance then I have Elemental Assassin and this next. I guess it means that my knickers will be in a bunch for the most part before I get to this volume.

  2. I love this series! I couldn't stop reading it once I started!

& I totally agree with your assessment of Curran and Kate's relationship.
I'm so glad he took his time courting her considering she isn't a shifter.

I agree that there seems to be some hinting at a future relationship between Julie & Derek. I'f not, then I really hope something does happen. I have a strong feeling though.
