BOOK REVIEW - ELEMENTAL by BRIGID KEMMERER - ELEMENTAL # 0.5 - NOVELLA

By : Brigid Kemmerer
Published By : K Teen, Kensington
Released : Available Now
Details : Kindle , Novella

RATING: 5 WET MY APPETITE STARS!!

Book Blurb : Taken From Goodreads

Earth, Fire, Air, Water – they are more than you dream.

As an air Elemental, 17-year-old Emily Morgan doesn’t have much power. That’s okay—she knows what happens to kids who do.

Like Michael Merrick. He’s an earth Elemental, one with enough power to level cities. Which makes him sexy. Dangerous. And completely off limits. At least according to Emily’s family.

But her summer job puts her in close contact with Michael, and neither of them can help the attraction they feel. When forces of nature like theirs collide, one misstep could get someone killed. Because Emily’s family doesn’t just want her to stay away from him.

They want him dead.

BOOK REVIEW:

I haven't read anything in this series other than this prequel novella which is set 5 years prior to book #1 titled 'Storm'.

This is our introduction to Michael, the eldest Merrick boy, primarily. We are also introduced to the twelve year old twins, Gabriel and Nick and also Chris.

Michael Merrick has a lot on his shoulders. He is a 'Pure' Elemental. Earth is his mojo.

This little entree novella, really wet my appetite for more of these boys, now I realise 'Storm' is set five years later , I think the Merrick boys are going to be a handsome handful. Might I also add, very popular.

I am hoping Emily stays in Michael's life as she too is an Elemental, she can control Air or in this book , it's more of a breeze.

I think Tyler is going to be a handful, Emily's brother, as her family are not liking Michael. I think their fear of his power is getting out of hand.

This little novella was over far too quickly and I want more. I had the opportunity to read an excerpt from 'Storm' , but I chose to wait. It was bad enough this prequel finishing too soon, cause you just want more.........

I highly recommend reading this novella, if you are unsure about how high to put this series on your TBR list...I can guarantee you will be sliding it to the top. I know I am in for the long haul.

Brigid's writing captures the readers interest in so few pages. I will be all grabby, grabby for 'Storm' , due for release April 24th 2012 for US and apparently May for us Aussies.

I wanted to add this most awesome character interview with the Merrick Boys from Brodies Page I have to admit I kinda fell in love with the boys reading this.

  1. EEEEEEE! Michelle! I am so, so, so happy you loved this. I cannot WAIT to see what you think of Storm! Ugh, I hate Tyler. He's such an ass. I don't need powers to take him on, I've got two hands that can wrap very tightly around his neck >:|

Love your review!! And man, I LOVE that interview too haha. Brigid is so amazing <3 I think this series is going to topple everyone's favourite lists soon.

    1. Hey Brodie * waves*

Well, if it wasn't for your interview I would not of noticed these boys for a little while. I am always sniffing out new YA books, and I love a fantastic series. So when I read your character interview...swiiiiiiinnnngggg, I was gone. So then my ears were pricked up and I was searching this author and series out. I know I can read a chapter excerpt on your page, but I am so excited about these boys/series/boys..ha! That I want to be totally unteased prior to starting.

Oh yes, I figured we were having an intro into Tyler and the bad boy he is going to turn into...grrrr...

      Thanks for dropping by:D

  6. Elemental was a perfect beginning for this series because it really got me motivated to continue reading. There were no slow points. It just rolled right through the story while developing the characters wonderfully. I typically hate novellas because they are so concise in descriptions and development, but with this prequel it was easy to understand what was happening, everything moved at a great pace, and I learned just enough about the characters that I found them fascinating without getting bored, which I believe is a major achievement for a 50 paged novella.

Emily was difficult to understand at first but through her actions and what she said to Michael about her wants in life, I discovered that she was a unique character. There was no time wasted on things like insecurity (a too common trait among YA heroines) or her exact looks or her whole background. The reader gets just a big enough peak into her life to realize she has problems and she's ordinary, but she works her way through both. She had great chemistry with Michael, and I don't exactly mean romantically, although there was a little of that. But I could almost feel the tension and nervousness between the two at first, and I really enjoyed reading that instead of the instant falling head over heels stuff I've read too much of.
