First in a brand new series about a Chicago graduate students introduction into a society of vampires.

Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn't exactly glamorous, but it was Merit's. She was doing fine until a rogue vampire attacked her. But he only got a sip before he was scared away by another bloodsucker—and this one decided the best way to save her life was to make her the walking undead.

Turns out her savior was the master vampire of Cadogan House. Now she's traded sweating over her thesis for learning to fit in at a Hyde Park mansion full of vamps loyal to Ethan , Lord of the Manor Sullivan. Of course, as a tall, green-eyed, four-hundred- year-old vampire, he has centuries worth of charm, but unfortunately he expects her gratitude and servitude. But an inconvenient sunlight allergy and Ethan's attitude are the least of her concerns. Someone's still out to get her. Her initiation into Chicago's nightlife may be the first skirmish in a warand there will be
blood.

BOOK REVIEW:

This was a good start to the ‘Chicagoland Vampires’, series. It’s a bit how I felt with the start of ‘The Morganville Vampires’ and ‘Vampire Academy’ series’. It’s when you get to books 2 in series, you feel a lot more confident as to why they rate so well. Then by book 3 you are hoping there are many more books to devour. I love The Morganville Vampire series and I adore Vampire Academy, but to me there is that warm up book or 2 ....then..bam!! I am hit with that feeling you get when you can’t put the book down....the character’s are under your skin , making you cry like a baby. ‘Some Girls Bite’, was the warm up book , for me. I really enjoyed reading it, being introduced to the characters that are in it for the long haul.

Buffy references..meh...I have to admit I am not a fan of Buffy references in books. I think the author should be steering away from reminding us , giving a comparison.

Catcher Bell, I absolutely love. He is just so well written. I would love a spin off series with Catcher, the sorcerer, now that would be awesome. There is just something about him that sets him apart. He is close to my fave guy character in this series. It’s too early days to think of Ethan as fave guy.

Ethan Sullivan is such a strict character. I love him and am waiting for the inevitable with his relationship with Merit. Chloe teases the reader a lot with the smexual tension. I do love a good bit of smexual tension and that lusty scene.... * fans oneself*.

Morgan Greer we are introduced to and he is the more laid back character of the ‘Houses’. He can be much more relaxed than the other guys, but is fierce when he needs to be.

Jeff Christopher, the computer specialist... he is just a cute character. He is written playfully. I feel that he is a very loyal character. I’m waiting to see the true Jeff.

There is mystery, betrayal, lust, loss of what once was, a new life to learn, to welcome. A major learning curve for some characters and the Canon will come in very handy for some.

Merit is this feisty, direct, gets away with a lot when it comes to Ethan , personality. Her life is altered so dramatically that acceptance comes slowly for her. Her freedom to be who she wanted in life was taken away by a pot stirrer looking for war. These are the cards she has been dealt, now she must learn how to play them.

Mallory is a cute bff character, who is always popping up , blue hair and all. She is very supportive and is good for Merit.

I would have liked more kick butt action with Merit , I felt that there was a lot of openings to get a bit banged up, the guy or in Merits case there a couple sniffing around, who swoop in to take care of her. I do personally enjoy a tough female lead that also has the vulnerable side that needs help when she won’t admit it. Sometimes I felt Merit was a lot younger than her 27 years.

All in all I recommend this series. I have nearly finished book 2, ‘Friday Night Bites’, so I know it gets better and can’t wait to crack open , ‘Twice Bitten’.

FAVE QUOTE:

“Nice going, Gandalf. You’ll rile her up, and I’ll never get her tucked in. You wanna give her candy and caffeine while you are at it?”
