BOOK REVIEW:

This is my first Sherrilyn Kenyon novel, I know... I finally got there, what can I say, loads of books on my leaning tower of Pisa pile. I just figured it was time I got me some Sherrilyn. I started at the start , 1996 first published, I was reading the re-released series.

I did not click from the front cover that this was a series in outer space... ha!! When I finally clicked I was like... oookay... let's see where this will take me. Well it took me... Nykyrian Quiakides is just gorgeously damaged. He reminded me a bit of Zsadist from Black Dagger Brotherhood.

I have seen this book stated under Sci-Fi genre. Now I am not a huge sci-fi fan—but, this book was very easy on all things sci-fi. I could wrap my mouth around the names without choking. It wasn't all gadgets and space stuff and things all tech.

This was a story about Kiara Zamir, a dancer, who is basically being hunted down by paid assassins to get at her father and his political alliance.

Nykyrian has ... be still my heart ... some baggage that is painfully disabling his ability to feel and believe he is worthy of affection. He shows no emotion, doesn't even know what to do with it, but  he knows how to kill. He beats to his own drum, having left the League behind 9 years prior; something not easily done or ever done. He sets his own rules and doesn't fully trust even those in his confidence. With a price tag on his head, he picks up contracts that suit him. A killing machine that is about to learn a lot about love, something he has never in his life felt. Cruelty and killing is the only thing he has ever known.

Kiara is no slouch in the ability to stick up for herself. She has a nice set of luggage that she carries around, but hers is more carry on, Nykyrian's is excess baggage.  Just breaking down those layers to get to Nykyrian is quite an emotional read.

I really liked the supporting characters, Hauk, Syn and Darling. Sherrilyn sure knows how to fill 500 odd pages with action, danger, smexual tension, hunky supporting characters ( in their own way as most aren't human) lots of kicking other species asses and the inevitable tossle between the sheets that is most worthy of waiting for. *fans oneself*.

Nykyrian is a most awesome character that knows how to bleed and accepts it. But can he heal from a life filled with such cruelty? Can he be reprogrammed to 'feel'? I am hanging to read 'Born Of Fire' this appears to be Syn's story.  I can't wait to get through his tough 'my wife left me so *bleep* all women they only bring pain' attitude. I'm sure it's going to be a rough ride, but an enjoyable one. Looks like I'll be heading back into outer space.

Be sure to read 'Authors Note' in front of book. Did it make me sad—you just never know.

  3. Hey thanks for the head's up. I'm set to start the series next week and if he's anything like Z then I'm all for it! You should definitely get you some more Kenyon although I suggest you skip the Dream-Hunters lol. Acheron and his Dark-Hunters are the best and his YA series, Chronicles of Nick, is a good read too.

  4. Hi Braine,

Nyk is like Z in certain ways, I won't spoil. But don't think of him as Z as it's quite hard to top Z. I just thought of Z and his pain when reading about Nyk.
