When seventeen-year-old Ellie starts seeing reapers - monstrous creatures who devour humans and send their souls to Hell - she finds herself on the front lines of a supernatural war between archangels and the Fallen and faced with the possible destruction of her soul.

A mysterious boy named Will reveals she is the reincarnation of an ancient warrior, the only one capable of wielding swords of angelfire to fight the reapers, and he is an immortal sworn to protect her in battle. Now that Ellie's powers have been awakened, a powerful reaper called Bastian has come forward to challenge her. He has employed a fierce assassin to eliminate her - an assassin who has already killed her once.

While balancing her dwindling social life and reaper-hunting duties, she and Will discover Bastian is searching for a dormant creature believed to be a true soul reaper. Bastian plans to use this weapon to ignite the End of Days and to destroy Ellie's soul, ending her rebirth cycle forever. Now, she must face an army of Bastian's most frightening reapers, prevent the soul reaper from consuming her soul, and uncover the secrets of her past lives - including truths that may be too frightening to remember.

BOOK REVIEW:

I'll start by saying congratulations to debut author , Courtney Allison Moulton for being original in her take on an Angel flavoured story with "Angelfire", the first in a trilogy. Also a big thankyou to Netgalley for the opportunity to have an early read, much appreciated.

I am looking forward to reading "Wings Of The Wicked" ( Angelfire #2 ) and "Hymn To The Fallen "( Angelfire # 3) . Those two book names I think are actually very cool titles!!!

I absolutely loved Will , the male lead character in "Angelfire". I thought he was well thought out as the Guardian of Ellie's character. I could really 'feel', Will's character. I loved his strength and quiet smexiness.

If I was to be honest and taking into consideration I was reading an Advanced Uncorrected E-proof and not the final result, I did have a little trouble with Ellie's character in parts. Let me explain without giving away storyline. Ellie is a human who is reborn/reincarnated she can heal herself straight away and has immense power that she is only starting to remember. Once Ellie reaches seventeen, Will ,who has been hanging about on the quiet for years guarding Ellie, awakens her to her true identity, then they can work together. It's then open season on Reapers being allowed to try to kill her. Reapers are huge dog/animal like hellish creatures who kill humans and take their souls to hell.  I had difficulty with Ellie being the only Preliator on earth and the amount of reapers she must slay night after night with Will as her guardian protecting unsuspecting humans.

As the story unfolds , some questions are answered that I had regarding her character. I thought Ellie was a little too casual at times with the importance of her role, considering she is the only Preliator on the planet. I felt there were a couple flaws in the plot but in saying that was very happy to overlook this as I felt Courtney's original story was refreshing and believe she will only improve in her sequels. I can see how this story could be very powerful and exciting and the anguish of forbidden love.  I really felt for Will's character having been there with Ellie's reincarnated character for 500 years,  watching her die and eventually be reborn over and over again. The toll it must have on him repeatedly watching her die.

Nathaniel and Lauren I can see more of a story there in the future. I loved Ellie's bff,  Kate . I found Kate to be very supportive of Ellie considering always being awol , when once Ellie was a part of a group who did everything together. How to juggle being a normal teenager with a Preliator sword wielding killer alter ego and not let your parents know what you are sneaking out to do . That in itself is a huge pressure.  I have a theory with Ellie's father, which I shall keep to myself.

"Angelfire", I believe is the start of a very exciting , original trilogy, that will have us gripping our books tightly with forbidden love, kick butt messy, sword wielding fight scenes,  and a lot more knowledge on Ellie's character as her memory unfolds and the pain Will has kept so close to his heart surfaces.

FAVE QUOTES:

"Don't forget that I'll always love you, " he whispered against my lips, rubbing the tip of his nose against mine. "Don't forget."

"I've watched you fall so many times and been unable to do anything to save you. I don't know how many more times I can watch you die, Ellie."

  1. Oh, I love the titles of books two and three! I added Angelfire to my wishlist when I heard about it simply because the cover has a girl wielding a sword, which meant the heroine could take care of herself. The fact that it fits the paranormal genre and is about angels was just an added bonus.

  3. Great review. Haven't read it yet but I have a feeling I will also be a bit annoyed at Ellie's character, the way you described her.
