Loved It!
If you like Jace and Will from Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices, then you are going to love Nick Ryves personality. You have this 16 year old boy who appears to have this massive chip on his shoulder. He is dark and broody and a bit of a smart arse, I love him already. Team Nick.
“Oh really,” she said, her voice amused and incredulous. “A complete innocent, are you?”
“Definitely,” Nick assured her, letting his voice slide low. “You can try corrupting me if you like.”
Mae dimpled . “It’s no fun if you’re asking for it.”
“No, no,” Nick drawled. “Release me, you monster. Your wicked ways shock me to my soul. And yet I find you strangely attractive.”
“I’d hate for you to get the wrong idea about me,” he said. “Under normal circumstances , I swear , I would have copped a feel.”
Nick and Alan Ryves are kinda your Winchester brothers, Sam and Dean from The Supernatural, but not. They work together bringing Demons down , killing Magicians, the way they know how, and along the way they have to help rescue each other from being marked. I really liked this whole tier of being marked, very clever. Once a demon possesses you, your life is pretty cactus.
Magicians can call demons into our world and in exchange they get their power.
“Magicians give victims to demons, which means that demons will give them anything they want.”
Nice trade, but also a very dangerous trade for magicians to use this power. Nothing good can come of it. Black Arthur is one Magician not doing any good with this power.
Mae and her brother Jamie Crawford, are great sub characters. Jamie has some great dialogue, he is a minnie smart mouth himself.
“Well , if the knives go in the cornflakes, do the guns go in the raisin bran? I just wanted to know if there’s some kind of system I should look out for.”
Mae is the girl we think Alan likes, but does Nick like Mae? Does Mae like Nick?
Nick and Alan’s mum is a mystery. Alan is very good to her, but Nick doesn’t go near her and vice versa, very odd. Poor mum is a tad insane.
Nick’s character is somebody you don’t understand , but you know there are layers waiting to be peeled back. You can’t help loving the moody bugger and feeling a sadness that you don't quite understand , for him. He is only young but he is very mature, yet a smart ass and a moody bugger. You feel he has a lot of weight on his shoulders. Yet at the same time you find yourself trying to pick what is driving his personality.
Alan is the glasses wearing, gun toting, nice brother who has a few secrets of his own he is trying to keep a secret.
We have a great SBS = Smexi Bannister Scene. I loved the Goblin Market and the ‘dancing’ scene Nick did.
Now don’t get me wrong, this book is nothing like Cassandra Clare’s tales, it has its own brand of originality and snark .
This was a most awesome read , I just loved it and am straight on to The Demon’s Covenant. Fast paced, the twists were WOW! the end of the book blind sided me, hooray! I love a good blind side. I actually had a couple bombshells dropped on me, awesome!
FAVE QUOTES:
“She tries so hard to hide her attraction . Her mouth says, ‘I cannot imagine what they all see in you’ but her eyes say, ‘Take me, wild stallion’. She’ll be back. She can’t keep away.”
Jamie smiled , looking a little startled.
“You’re not allowed to be a wild stallion until you are older,” said Alan, but he caught Nick’s eye and smiled crookedly at him, looking very pleased.
“I feel I should warn you,” he said after a moment. “ I may be about to get sick or pass out.”
“Uh,” said Mae. “Sexy.”
.........”Maybe what you need is a distraction,” she began.
On impulse Nick reached up and pulled her down to the bed. Mae made a startled sound, half breath and half laugh, and he rolled her over and under him easily, using his strength the way girls sometimes liked him to.
“That’s magicians for you,” Jamie said, his voice wobbling . “Everyone gets all caught up in the demon summoning . Nobody mows the lawn.”

SO THIS is the Demon Lexicon. If they get it in my library I'll make sure to pick this up. I like Jace & Will so if Nick is anything like them then I'd probably enjoy this. I can see from the quotes that I'm going to be a fan of his sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteYup! Nick has that personality like Jace and Will , but he is a different character if that makes sense..ha! He and Jamie bring some great dialogue that have you laughing:D
