BOOK REVIEW - KIERA'S QUEST : PERCEPTIONS by KRISTY BROWN - KIERA'S QUEST # 3 - TWEEN FANTASY - MUSE IT UP PUBLISHING

By: Kristy Brown
Published By: Muse It Up
Released : Available Now
Details: Kindle for honest review from author, 140 Pages

RATING: 4 WITCH QUEEN STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

The Witch Queen has sunk to a new level of evil.

Kiera is helplessly stuck in Zakk’s realm. With the vortex destroyed, she is desperate to find a way home. Her Uncle Tom, her friends and now the boy she loves, are in danger. Will Kiera find the strength and the self-belief she needs to save them?

On her lonely journey she meets new allies from peculiar races. The Prophecy is all falling into place. Will Kiera be able to forgive the people she trusted? Will she be able to save the world from her twisted nemesis? Will she finally believe that she is indeed the ‘chosen one’?

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

The gang are all back in the third installment of the Kiera Quest series.

Perceptions carries on straight from where Sacrifices finished off.

The Witch Queen who was my fave character in this book was quite hilarious with all her snark and ‘deary’ comments.

“Oh keep your bloomers on. It’s not like it’s the end of the world,”the Witch Queen spat, without hesitation. She realised that this could not be Kiera-like behaviour, on seeing all three idiots, with their mouths swinging open.

I am not sure if I would have been fooled by her, but the gang were. The Witch Queen found it simply too hard to behave like a Kiera doppleganger.

I liked watching the ‘real’ Kiera and Zakk on their quest to find and make it through the vortex’s to get back to earth. They were aided by Kristy’s creative fantasy characters, the Capetorads and Mason the duplicating adonis, Hershen.

The shenanigans being played out on earth with witchie poo and her minion came with some laughs.

I think Madam Swift needs a gold star she was the only one who could put two and two together pretty darn quickly.

For all their heroic ways, Daz, Joe and Maddy certainly weren’t switched on when it came to the antics of their so called friend, played by the rather funny, Witch Queen.

This is very much a tween read. A very clean read. The romance is very, very light.

Will Daz and Maddy, Joe and Kiera, Zakk and Alex get a HEA?

Well, I guess you will have to read the fourth and final installment in Kiera’s Quest to find out.

A fun read, filled with Kirsty’s imagination.

RATING: 4 KIERA & THE CREW STARS!!

Blurb: Goodreads

After almost beating the villainous Witch Queen, Kiera’s triumph is tainted with sadness for the loss of Joe and Daz. When the handsome Prince Zakk asks Kiera to re-enter his world in order to save her friend, she does not hesitate. On their perilous journey Kiera realizes that she is there to save many lives. As she comes face to face with her evil nemesis once again, Kiera comes closer to finding out the truth to why she has been chosen. Will she succeed? Will this be the end to Kiera’s quest?

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle :

Sacrifices is book two in Kiera's Quest . These books are aimed at tweens and up. I really loved book 1, Awakenings and could quite easily see it as a basis for a Disney movie.

Kristy has such fun with her characters and the Witch is always a hoot. These are deliberately short reads. Short quests that Kiera and crew go on.

This book has several different POV's and we are going back and forth between two worlds.

I love me a vortex, there is just something fun about the word vortex.  We get introduced to some new characters and some fun twists.

I would have loved Witchie poo to have been as outrageous as she was in book 1. She is still fun, but she was an absolute hoot in Awakenings. I wanted to stand with my legs strong and raise my chin to the sky and yell , 'Mwah ha ha haaaaaaa.'

I was beginning to question young Zakk, he seemed to have wandering eyes in this book.

Maddy gets some great air time in this book. I enjoy her character and she isn't a dummy. She can handle the truth!

Terrence the dog is a fun and surprising character. I really enjoyed Terrence's scenes.

I love Kristy's imagination, she has it in buckets. For short reads she does fill the pages with lots of fun and mayhem.

Albatron, D'rogs, see-through bombs, dragon, vortex's , Witch, Googe the Witches side kick, Terrence the wonder dog, Joe, Mouse, Alex, Kiera, zakk, Uncle Tom and more have come out to entertain us. Even poo tunnels.....yes stinky , icky, poo tunnels.

I could honestly quite easily see both of her books as much longer stories each or joined as one book. Put both of these books together and it would be a fun Disney kids movie.

Kristy has a really cool way of writing a world kids and adults would love to be a part of.

I am looking forward to more of Kiera's Quests.

FAVE QUOTE:

“Just give me a minute to dress. I know I’m sexy,
but not sure even I can pull off the whole hospital gown look.”

INTERVIEW WITH KRISTY BROWN AUTHOR OF KIERA'S QUEST - AWAKENINGS

I would like to welcome the lovely KRISTY BROWN  to Novels On The Run and thank her for taking the time to answer my Q's I put to her. I LOVED Kristy's take on the fairy tale genre, if you haven't read her book, I highly recommend it:) MY REVIEW HERE

ENJOY!!

INTERVIEW

Michelle: If you could only use 10 words or less to promote Kiera’s Quest, what would they be?

Kristy:  Friendship, betrayal, loss, confusion, first loves, fear, terror, escapism and fantasy.

Michelle:  You have had such a wonderful ,positive response to Kiera’s Quest - Awakenings, book # 1 in your series, book #2 ‘Sacrifices’ will be released in July 2012. Will this be a full length book or is your style going to continue being a shorter novella sized read for each instalment?

Kristy:  The second book is roughly the same length as the first book. Book three is shaping up to be a little longer, but still with the same ‘mini-series’ feel.

Michelle:   Could you please describe in 10 words or less the difference between ‘Awakenings’ and ‘Sacrifices’?

Kristy:  Awakenings introduces Kiera as something special. Sacrifices explores her potential.

Michelle:  Could you please give us a no spoiler quote from ‘Sacrifices’? I don’t need to know who said it.

Kristy:  “You deserve to die and my queen will see to it that you do. Now be quiet.”

Michelle:  The Wicked Queen is quite a character, I love her. What song would best describe her personality and who in your mind do you think could play your Wicked Witch on the big screen?

Kristy :  Perhaps ‘Evil Woman’ by ELO! I haven’t really got someone in mind, but I guess somewhere in between Glenn Close and the amazing actress who plays Anna in the new series of V. (Morena Baccarin)

This did put a smile on my face, it's been a long time since I have heard an ELO song.

Michelle:  Zakk, Prince of Zantar, who in your author mind, comes close to a visual that we can relate to, whether it be celeb, or model, fits Zakk’s descriptive.

Kristy:  My image of Zakk isn’t based on anyone at all, but when I see him, I’ll let you know!

Michelle:  What 5 words describe Zantar?

Kristy:  Colourful, mystical, dream-like, shining and blissful.

Michelle:  What song would best describe Zakk?

Kristy:  ‘Wherever You Will Go’ by The Calling.

Michelle:  What 5 words describe Kiera in both ‘Awakenings’ and then 5 words describing her in ‘Sacrifices’ ?

Kristy:  Awakenings: unsure, scared, lost, determined and hopeful.

Kristy:  Sacrifices: focused, eager, confused, aware and willing.

Michelle: What were you doing when the idea for Kiera’s Quest Awakenings came into your head?

Kristy:  I was actually watching my son sleeping, way back when he was just 7 months old. I looked across at my niece’s doll’s house and the idea just came together.

Michelle:   What song best describes Kiera in ‘Awakenings’ and why?

Kristy:  Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Stronger’! Every event that happens to her makes her a little wiser and stronger.

Michelle:  If you could be in a Fairy Tale, would you rather be the princess type character, the character batting for good, or the wicked type character, whether they be a minion or a wicked queen, the one batting for evil ( *wink* cause we know how that usually pans out..hehe!) I found myself personally wanting to be the Wicked Queen as she has some great one liners...ha!

Kristy:  Definitely the princess! Although I’m a Tom-boy, I do love a happy ending. I love writing the Witch Queen’s lines though. She’s so twisted!

Michelle:   I shall finish off with a Q I have funnily enough, been dying to know the answer to. Who was ‘weedy’ and who was ‘speedy’ in ‘Awakenings’ out of Maddy and Kiera? Hehe!

Kristy:  Now that would be telling! And I couldn’t possibly hurt either of their feelings!!

Thanks again for your support. It’s great to know that people out there are enjoying my book. x

Red Light Series Alert

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle :

I am going to say it.

Disney you need to read this little gem.

I can sooooo see this book loved, nurtured and published by Disney.... even a movie.

Oh , yeah! I went there!!

I mean no offence to the cover designer, but the cover does not give any....any..... inclination to the story within. I see a more fairy tale cover.

This is a most refreshing modern fairy tale with all the right ingredients. Cinderella, Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, I love you all, you are classics, many versions have made it to the big screen.  I love what Kristy has done with her little story, it is this quiet little achiever, I think it's time to stand aside and let another modern day fairy tale play out.

This little gem comes complete with a Wicked Queen, her minion, a Prince, a girl ( Kiera) ,a vortex ( cause you have to have a vortex) , a pit of restless souls lost in nightmares, rings, some song ( as you need that) , hot boys....a goth boy and a dog named Terrence to name some. ( well, if I told you everything, no point reading it)

The tale told is different and original.

I was pulled in from the beginning. Now I don’t want to spoil it, but what Kristy did with the Prince, I loved!! Nice and fresh and fun .

Kiera and Maddy aka speedy and weedy, we aren’t sure who is who , cause nobody wants to be weedy...hehe...like to go blading.  Daz, he’s the goth boy, and Joe, he’s crushing on Kiera , they make up the happy foursome of friends.

Kiera lives with her Uncle Tom and attends school , her life was fairly normal, but then things change....... enter Zakk.

I love how much fun Kristy has with her writing. This book is only 75pages long , but you feel like you have been inside her story, longer.

I love the names of her characters and how they leap off the page at you. The teacher named Miss Ing......get it...missing....ha!! I missed it first time, lol!!

The Wicked Queen is an absolute hoot! I had this voice in my head, she spoke to me when I was reading her dialogue. I loved her! Kristy’s take on a Wicked Queen was fresh and made me laugh with her actions.

I think chapter one should possibly have been a prologue, but who cares, I loved this book. It was fresh and fun and entertaining. I could so see Selena Gomez or one of the other young chickens in Hollywood breathing life into Kiera.

Get ready to step inside a fairy tale with a difference, will there be that Happy Ever After at the end of this book, or will Kiera be on a quest to fight for her HEA? I hope so as I had such fun reading this one.
Well done Kristy:)
