5 STAR MOVIE

I had such a great time at the movies with my daughter who is only 11yrs old. Mini-me really enjoyed Vampire Academy the movie and I did too.

Big Thankyou to Caroline at Studiocanal for giving me a double pass. I would have gone regardless as I am a HUGE fan of the VA book series. Mini-me thought I was rather spesh to get a free pass.

I have learnt not to recap a book before the movie version comes out. I had read Vampire Academy # 1 quite a while ago and I got some nice surprises because I had forgotten some of the story line.

I did get a couple jump scares too. I think my daughter rolled her eyes at me and I got a , "Muuuumm!" Only because I made her jump too.

HA!

Zoey Deutch did such a great job of Rose.

I believed she was Rose.

I loved the chemistry between Rose and Vasilisa, played by Aussie Lucy Fry. Zoey and Lucy work so well together on the big screen.

Dimitri, played by Russian actor/model, Danila Kovslosky, fit the character from the books, I thought , so well. He has some great fight scenes and he just looks like Dimitri and how I visualized him when reading. The accent just brought it all home.

Rawrrr!

Dominic Sherwood brought Christian to life, he is rather pretty to look at. He played Christian well.

The Academy was a brilliant historic piece of architecture. I just wanted to run about the grounds.

The Strigoi enabled some great fighting scenes with Dimitri swinging that leg about and using his silver stabby thingy and Rose showed me how all that training she went through prior to filming paid off. 

I loved all the clothes. Especially Rose's. I was lusting after her jackets and her hair!

The humorous lines that popped up every now and then, really added that little something more to the movie. I am looking forward to the next movie. 

There is one quote from this book that I have never forgotten and it is used in the movie. I was actually saying it along with the character. My daughter thought I was a little weird and told me to ssshh. I was saying it with as much passion as I could muster. 

I remembered every word. I think I did slightly impress her.

I am quite bouncy for another movie. I wanted to keep on watching the books all play out on the big screen one after the other.

I think everybody who worked on this movie did such a brilliant job. Music, costumes, makeup, sets... BRILLIANT!

Hopefully we get Frostbite...soon!!

Lyrics mean a lot to me. Asking authors musical questions has proven very popular in my interviews with authors/characters. It can infact stump some authors. Julie Kagawa was stumped and we had a competition to unstump her. That was fun!

I have been tossing about ideas and talking about having a feature on the blog, and I thought to make it easy I would choose the book and let the readers decide what aspect/relationship they think a song choice best describes it. I am so grateful to the lovely youtubers who make the lyric videos. I get very excited when I find a vid that has lyrics for my interviews. I love finding out what an author would choose.

I read all 6 Vampire Academy books in 7 days, I went on a hardcore marathon. I admit I felt a tad sad when it was all over, last page turned, last words read. I was looooovvvving Dimitri and loving Adrian, oh I want Adrian to get a gal. Dimitri is just simply gorgeous. Richelle made Rose and Dimitri work very hard for their love at the cost of Adrian’s feelings.


This book has it all, a jail bird, some explosive times, a love or two that won’t give up, a mystery or two to be solved, Sydney makes an appearance and Abe is well, Abe. Somebody isn’t playing nice and Rose needs to clear her name.


Lissa has to make some important descisions, life all of a sudden got very serious, people are now depending on her, she needs to rise to the occasion.


We get a bit more insight into Sydney and how much the Alchemists know about Moroi , dhampir and The Keepers. How much they actually help and work with Moroi.


A rather funny scene amongst The Keepers, it was nice to see Dimitri smiling even if it was for the wrong reasons.


I liked how Richelle had us continually in Lissa’s head so it kept the reader up to the moment on what was happening in The Courts. Adrian is doing his dream thingy he does , keeping that love triangle ripe in our minds. I think Adrian is gorgeous, he has his problems but he just isn’t the right fit for Rose...I want Richelle to find him somebody, he deserves it. He is always there for Rose . I think Adrian knows that Dimitri will always hold Rose’s heart whether their love can be reignited or not , her heart is with Dimitri.


I was happy the way this book finished up. I am hoping with the ‘Bloodlines’ series, which is looking like 6 books, has some of these characters reappearing in this spin off series....... a couple characters move on to ‘Bloodlines’ as it is their series... I’m just not quite ready to give them all up. I feel like some of the characters still have a voice.

Awww , Dimitri you are breaking my heart..again. Your love letters leave a lot to be desired.


Rose has her final trial before she becomes a full fledged dhampir guardian.


Adrian is just a fabulous character that my heart goes out to. A Royal Moroi whose addictive nature includes Rose. Richelle, I need an Adrian fairy tale.


They are now all off to the Royal Courts as St. Vladimir’s Academy has now ended for them.


There is love, lust, bravery is tested, defiance, a covert operation, deadly accusation, pain, heartache and loyalty is tested.


Dimitri is just the most awesome written male character in this series. The emotions the reader feels in each book.......


Eddie has proven to be the most stand up friend a girl can have when she needs to do everything illegal under the sun. Dive in head first , ask questions later. I would love an Eddie spinoff he is just gorgeous.


Richelle sure likes to take us on adventures , in ‘Spirit Bound ‘, we are off to Alaska, Sin City and back to the Royal Courts.


Rose will stop at absolutely nothing, to help those she loves, but what sort of mess is she leaving in her wake. Will all the deaths come back to haunt her for trying to save the one guy she can’t live without? Will it be worth fighting her own kind?


Rose kicks ass like her life depends on it...well errr.............

BOOK REVIEW:


There is quite a lot going on in this book. Victor Dashkov is going on trial and Rose and Lissa want a ticket. Adrian is a great character amongst all that is going on helping Lissa to understand her element and his banter with Rose.


There’s 6 weeks of field testing and Rose isn’t happy with who she has been assigned. Adult Guardians are jumping out attacking novice guardians all over the place. A ghost keeps popping up at inconvenient times and throwing Rose off.


Rose is doing it a lot tougher in this book and growing up before our eyes. She can still throw a hissy fit, but she thinks about her behaviour more . Things are happening that she is fearful of and she is trying to get some answers.


I love the way Richelle writes Dimitri and Rose in their quiet, tense moments. The smexual tension just washes over the reader.


Queen Tatiana is being a pain in the butt, tarot readings aren’t sounding too good and the ghost just won’t go away.


The excitement gets to fever pitch . I could see where Richelle was going , but hoping she wasn’t. The way she wrote where the book ended up kinda broke my heart. I admit I had a cry. I felt a bit hollow and wondered where the next 3 books could take me. Get those Kleenex out ( tissues) because the emotion just gets more heart breaking in ‘Blood Promise’....* whispers* it’s very sad and hard.

BOOK REVIEW:



Good Vampires are Moroi, who can wield magic, in each of the four elements. Earth, Air , Water, Fire , they don’t really use their magic anymore, they are not fighters..... a new element has been discovered amongst the Academy.


Richelle Mead steps up the pace in ‘Frostbite’, I felt this book was starting to speak to me and tell me a story that I could see developing into a 6 book series.  Now the story is getting interesting. The Strigoi have made an appearance and are showing their evil side. I am feeling their presence now and the death they leave behind.


Janine Hathaway makes an appearance, the chip just got a whole lot bigger on Rose’s shoulder. Janine and Rose have a verbal sparring match that goes a little too far.


There is a relationship shift between Rose and Lissa and Rose and Dimitri. The green eyed monster is out and Rose doesn’t like it a bit.


Students are whisked away for their safety to a royal ski lodge in Idaho and that’s when things start heating up. Mia has come to a turning point in her life. Adrian Ivashkov has arrived and he is a great supporting character. I love his dialogue, vying for Rose’s attention, calling her little dhampir and at times appearing a tad crazy. Always makes for a humorous character.


Mason, Eddie and Mia decide to go Strigoi hunting, with Christian and Rose tracking the trio down.... then all hell breaks loose.......


I really enjoyed this instalment in the series and just had to rip into Shadow Kiss the minute I finished , ‘Frostbite’.


I highly recommend having all the books in the series ready to go, because my ratings went up when I started Shadow Kiss and hit top with Blood Promise.

I’ve embarked on my Vampire Academy marathon week of reading the series of 6 books, before the spin off , ‘Bloodlines’ is released.


At 4am I finished Vampire Academy # 1, in one sitting. It had my interest from the get go.


Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess and is bonded with 17 yr old Rosemarie Hathaway her guardian , a Dhampir.


Rose and Lissa’s escapades have been caught up with by 24 year old, Dimitri Belikov who has been sent to retrieve them and bring them back to St. Vladimir’s Academy.


Dimitri becomes Lissa’s sanctioned guardian and Dimitri becomes Rose’s mentor and trainer.


Rose thinks she has what it takes to protect Lissa, her best friend , but...... she has an awful lot to learn and patient Dimitri is there to teach her the ropes.


Rose has a large chip on her shoulder when it comes to her non existent, mother and father figures and doesn’t really care about her behaviour as long as Lissa is safe. Rose has a selfless friendship with Lissa and is about to learn that she has a lot to learn about being a guardian , more than she ever realised. She is a little wild and disrespectful, which won’t bode well for her.


Moroi are to be protected by dhampir ( half human genes , half vampire genes) guardians, especially if you are Moroi royalty. Strigoi want Moroi blood it makes them stronger. Dhampir must train and lay their lives down to protect Moroi from Strigoi, who prey on Moroi , draining their blood, killing and turning Moroi into Strigoi. Well, in truth they aren’t that fussed, they will kill humans and dhampir too and a dhampir turned into a Strigoi is an asset.


I quite enjoyed the Russian influence in this book.


I loved the supporting character’s, Mia, the uber bitch , trouble maker, determined to cause pain and suffering to Rose, Christian, the misunderstood student who wants to fit in and sweet Mason.


Lissa and Rose are on a discovery to find out more about their bond and Lissa’s abilities and ....... oh, Lissa, what are you doing....


There was one scene, that is rather memorable involving the badass god, which had me rather entertained, but also .....WOW!


I enjoyed this first instalment in the series, it was more getting to know characters and discovering all is not what it seems with a little mystery thrown in. I have read up to and finished book # 4 Blood Promise. From reading book # 1, I would never have guessed how I was going to feel by the end of book # 4. I had fellow bloggers very enthusiastic about me reading this series. Team Dimitri, banners I saw on blogs . A friend is just in love with Dimitri. I saw his appeal in this book, but....it’s not until I read more books , that ...WOW!!


Keep reading this turns into an awesome, emotional, amazing series.
