BOOK REVIEW - MOTHER'S LOVE by KIRSTY DALLAS - MERCY'S ANGELS # 4

By: Kirsty Dallas
Published By : Kirsty Dallas
Released : Available Now
Details: Digital copy for honest review, 222 Pages

RATING: 4.5 MERCY'S ANGELS STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

Annie Lonergan had lived through hell, she survived, now it was back and this time it wanted her son. After spending far too long cowering in fear Annie is no longer the timid little flower she once was and will do whatever it takes to protect what is hers.

Dillon Montgomery knows what it takes to kill another human being, he knows the taint it leaves on your soul. But to protect those he loves Dillon is prepared to do whatever necessary, even if it means more blood on his hands.

How far would you go to protect your child?

Mother's Love can be read as a standalone, however you will gain a more enjoyable reading experience if you read the complete series, as there are characters in previous books that make appearances in each novel.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

“Don’t borrow tomorrow’s fears, honey,
you’ve got enough to handle today.”

I do get all grabby, grabby hands when it comes to a Kirsty Dallas book. She writes emotion beautifully.

Mother’s Love, just the title makes you aware of what this book is going to be about without reading the blurb.

Annie has had it tough in life. The father of her child has mental issues that have lead to her running for the safety of her life and her son's.

Enter Dillon... humma! humma!

I have read the series in order so we do meet Annie and Dillon in the previous book in the series, so it’s no surprises that Dillon has the hots for Annie.

I loved Annie, she is a great character and Dillon is naturally this sexy male that we get all excited over as the reader. He knows how to get shiz done!

My heart started thumping when Bomber popped up as I get a lady boner for him and can’t wait to read more about him and Gabrielle. I liken these two to Maya Banks’, PJ and Cole from KGI series. They have that similar chemistry of two military people working alongside each other and the sexual tension that bounces off them.

I’m very bouncy to see if we get a Gabbie and Bomber book, sooner than later.

HINT!

Gabrielle Mendoza, the only female on our team so far, sat with ex-Navy SEAL, Larz O’Donnell. Gabbie was a former officer of the NYPD Emergency Services Unit until her husband of six months was killed in a drunk driving accident. At that point , she quit and began working for independent companies, like ours. She was a gorgeous Spanish woman who was strong enough to fit into a male dominated career. Daniel ‘Bomber’ Jones sat to her other side, a toothpick hanging from his smiling lips. Bomber, to some extent, reminded me of my friend, Charlie Cole. With his easygoing humor and never-ending banter, you had but only two options with the man, hit him or laugh, and the fact he was one of the best bomb experts I had ever met, I went with the latter.

I really enjoyed KD not sending us down a predictable avenue, she gave us some awesome curveballs.

*glove clap*

I highly recommend Mercy’s Angels series and I loved that the other characters popped up in this instalment because I do miss them when they aren’t about.

I will say Tortured Soul # 3 is my favourite in this series to date, but I am looking forward to more in this series in the near future.

*whispers* Especially if there is a Bomber and Gabbie book.

But for now we get Lola's story coming on down in the future.

BLOG TOUR - REVIEW & GIVEAWAY - TORTURED SOUL by KIRSTY DALLAS - MERCY'S ANGEL'S # 3

Tortured Soul

By: Kirsty Dallas
Published By: Kirsty Dallas
Released: 22nd February 2014
Details: Digital for honest review, 273 Pages

RATING: 5 BRAIDEN, BOMBER, LARZ STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

Emily Donovan didn't know love, she didn't know gentle and her future wasn't hers to own. Because HE owned her. There is only so much one soul can take before it is broken beyond repair and she had reached that milestone long ago.

Braiden Montgomery had secrets, secrets that would see a special place in hell reserved just for him. He was trying to make amends, trying to find his own form of redemption when a waif of a girl with jet black hair and pale blue eyes seized his heart.

Emily's soul had been tortured by men like Braiden, so trusting the dark haired Dom would be one of the most difficult things she would ever do. For a man with skills like Braiden, keeping 'Em' safe would be a piece of cake. Bringing her frozen heart back to life might just prove impossible though.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

I really enjoy reading anything that Kirsty writes. She doesn’t disappoint.

Tortured Soul was no exception. A darker read, with a villain and his minions who are pure evil.

Braiden has his own sins to deal with having been raised by his stepfather, the Russian, Alexander Toropov who is on the FBI’s most wanted list. Braiden was molded to be a killer, an assassin.

I had been groomed to be his right hand man. At thirteen I had made my first kill and by fourteen, I was fucking. At fifteen I spoke fluent Russian and Spanish and could drive a car better than most twice my age. At seventeen I had mastered most weapons and could plan and strategize the perfect assassination. At twenty-one my world seemed to collapse in on itself and I began questioning my life.

He has left that life behind him and is in partnership with his cousin Dillon at Montgomery Securities in Claymont.

I really liked how Braiden was written. Braiden is a most delicious book boyfriend who is patient , caring and just growl worthy.

“Settle down, Malen’kaya, I’ve got you now.”

Emily left home with a dream at a young age and fell into a nightmare. Braiden and his team have come to the rescue.

Emily needs to be brought back from the life she had brutally been conditioned to. Listening to Emily’s inner monologue you quickly realize how conditioned her mind was to slavery and servitude. How dehumanized she had been forced to become.

There was no Emily left in Emily. Tough love had to be dealt.

“I understand sin, Em, I understand what it feels like to be beyond redemption.”

Jax, Charlie, Rebecca, Ella, Mercy, Eli... all have roles to play in this book. I do love having them pop into the storyline. Jax and Charlie are just cool lads. They love their women and they have big hearts.

We are introduced to new characters and I think Bomber is quite a lad. The sexual banter between him and Gabriella reminded me of PJ and Cole in Maya Banks KGI series. I’m hoping we get a book on Gabbie and Bomber.

Larz is such a gentleman, but I wouldn’t want to fight him. He sounds like a really cool guy that has sacrificed a lot because of his dedication to the job.

I am rather intrigued about Samuel and his rather busty, lusty wench of a woman he has in tow. I’m not sure if I like her. I’m not sure I am supposed to?

Kirsty has left us with ample characters that she can write a book about in this series and I for one will read them.

I saw a certain movie a while back and there was a line in it that I just have wanted to hear repeated. It just sounded cool. Not sure of the copyright laws, but it was perfect for a scene in this book.

“I think we need to pull a Panama.”

“A Panama. A Panama?”

I could so hear Bomber or Braiden yelling that out. Ha!

The town of Claymont is never dull, there is always something exciting and dangerous going down, not to mention the smexi lads that reside there.

I highly recommend Mercy’s Angels series.

Michelle

Kinda a spoiler, but, this is too funny.

The force of nature that was Rebecca Donovan was in a rut. Money was tight, her elusive sister was suddenly hounding her and it had been far too long between dates. Becoming the victim of a sexual assault was the final straw that broke the vivacious and strong willed florist.

Charlie Cole was floating through life on a wisp of uninspired air. Nothing could compare to the excitement and fulfillment that one night with Rebecca Donovan had brought him. A misunderstanding and stubborn stand-off saw that one night of heaven remain just that, one night.

Little did Rebecca and Charlie know that from the depths of fear, with their lives thrown into turmoil, a fierce love would be born.

love this trailer !!!

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

I got to say, I am loving this series. The lads are all humma, humma and the girls are all worthy of the partner Kirsty gives them. It’s like a melding of Maya Banks, Jay Crownover with characters that feel very real, throw in a side order of Lauren Dane. The lads are the strong, protective type with friends who are loyal and true. If you are in trouble, then they will be there on the double.

Rebecca has attracted unwarranted attention and Charlie is the only one who she will let in.

Rebecca has been attacked.

Fiesty, hear-me-roar Rebecca, is now feeling afraid and no longer who she once was. That has been taken away from her.

Hell yeah, I am Rebecca Fucking Donovan, hear me roar! Well, at least I thought I was. My roar now sounded something more like a timid and pathetic whine.

Charlie won’t let that happen. They may have had their misunderstanding in the past, but Charlie wants Rebecca. Rebecca has never given up on her affections for Charlie. She saw Charlie as only a one night stand kind of guy. She didn’t think he was capable of anything more.

This 50’s fasionista needs to claim back who she was and fight her inner demons that are plaguing her nights.

Dressing like a fifties pin-up girl seemed ridiculous now, and I began to see what everyone else saw when they looked at me; a fraud.

Charlie has found someone in Rebecca he thought didn’t exist. He found someone he cared for more than a one night stand. Someone he wanted a forever with.

Charlie grinned. “I guess I should make myself perfectly clear then. You’re not sure what this is? It’s us, you and me, Rebecca and Charlie, Betty Boop, and Caveman Cole. Friends? Always, but this is more, Rebecca. And you should know, I don’t like to share what’s mine, so monogamy has just become my new best friend. The fact that you have a jealous streak makes me ridiculously happy, I like to know that I’m yours. You should also know that only boys make their woman jealous of other women. A real man makes other women jealous of his woman. I intend to make every other woman on the face of this earth insanely jealous of you.”

“Damn, woman. Why does it suddenly feel like I’m the chick in this relationship and you’re the dude?”

Team Charlie.

I am absolutely crushing on this big, beefy fighter. Just roll me about in a Charlie sandwich. I loved him in Saving Ella and I love him even more in Fighting Back. He has such a protective caveman appeal to me. He isn’t too much, he is just right. He has his own skeletons in his closet, but he opened the door for Mercy to help save him. He knows how it feels to need someone who will be your life raft.

“Mercy never let a day go by where she didn’t tell me she loved me, that I was worthy and cherished. She wiped away all the crap my parents fed me, and helped me become the man I am today. Never doubt the power of words, Rebecca, they can help you heal, make you feel whole. Not a day will pass where you won’t hear those kinds of words from me.”

It's his turn to be somebody's life raft.

“No, Betty Boop, you are no heavier than a very warm and pretty blanket.”

His connection with Jax is that of a brother from another mother. They are tight. They behave like brothers. They are loyal to the core. I LOVE their camaraderie.

Jax stood in the doorway, actually he more like filled the doorway - I’m fairly certain he’s still growing. In one hand was a bottle of vodka, in the other was Rebecca’s Clitoria. I smirked and nodded to the innocuous looking plant. “You look awkward with that in your hands.”

“Fuck you,” Jax growled.

Shiz is going down and Rebecca’s sister Emily is in trouble.

Deep. Trouble.

It will take all the calendar men to help stop the evil that is preying on Rebecca and Emily.

Jax was wearing nothing but a pair of track pants, sitting dangerously low on his hips, and it took every ounce of self-preservation not to follow the hard, perfect washboard abs down to the magic V that led into the waistband of his pants. The man was scorching hot perfection, but he didn’t make my heart race like Charlie.

What? I just thought I would remind you of what Jaxon Carter looked like.

RawrrrrRRrrrrrrrr...rrrRRRrrrrr

Mercy is the core, motherly strong female character, who is the glue for some of these characters. Her angels come in the form of Jax, Charlie, Dave, Mary...

Although there are serious issues in this series, Kirsty throws in some comic relief that never fails to make me smile. It shows the warmth of these characters as they handle each day that comes with working at the shelter and it shows how far some of these battered women have come, how having these big guys helping out around the shelter puts a smile on their faces. They are a big self made family.

“Where are my muffins, Mary? You don’t want this to get ugly.” I grinned.

She burst out laughing. “Five minutes, Charlie, just five minutes earlier and you’d have your muffins.”

My playful grin disappeared. “Who took my muffins?” I demanded.

She laughed harder. “Ella left just before you came through the back door. Actually, she ran; I think she knew you would be looking for them.”

That cheeky little brat, I thought to myself. I was definitely kidnapping her precious penis cacti next time I dropped by Jax’s. I’d been threatening to unman her cactus for a long time. Now that she had messed with my muffins, that cactus was done for! The girl was going down!

She raised her hands in self-defense. “I only told Jax,” she said, looking slightly nervous.

My gaze moved to Jax. “I only told Mercy.”

I arched an eyebrow at Mercy, and she shrugged. “I only confided in Annie.”

Annie at least had the good grace to look a little shamed. “I only told Dillon,” she whispered, and I groaned.

“No one told me, but I guessed as much,” said Lola.

Bunch of fucking gossips, I rolled my eyes.

But then I met Braiden. The thinker. There is much more to Braiden.

Braiden was a thinker, a deep thinker. He watched, listened, and seemed to see all. Anyone that quiet had to have dark secrets lurking beneath their cool exterior, and I had no doubt Braiden had plenty, but I still trusted him explicitly.

Whahhh!!

* waggles eyebrows *

It will take a special man to help bring Emily back from the life she has lived for too long.

A certain someone appears up for the challenge.

I am looking forward to #3.

Bring. It. On.

Smashing good job , Kirsty!

By: Kirsty Dallas

RATING: 4.5 JAX, DILLON & CHARLIE STARS!

Book Blurb : Goodreads

Please Note - this book contains some violence, language that some may find offensive and sexual situations.

The protection every child is owed was lost on Ella Munroe. Her tiny body was beaten, bruised, cut and bloodied. And the thing about pain, it demands to be felt……. While searching for affection, Ella gave away her body and her escape was found in drugs. Self-loathing led to self-destruction and she tried to cut that hate from herself. They say pain makes you stronger, fear makes you braver; Ella had more strength and bravery than most. With her head down, scars covered and heart locked behind a wall of steel Ella ran. On the streets she may have found her freedom but she was still alone, until she found ‘Mercy’s’, until she found Jax.

Born a warrior, Jaxon Carter could intimidate with no more than a glance, but this warrior was not born to destroy, he was born to protect. To Jax, Ella was much more than a tiny beaten girl, Ella was an angel. Ella was Jax’s angel, she was his to protect and cherish. She was his to love and although Ella’s first instinct was to run, Jax made her yearn for things she had long forgotten. In capturing her heart, Jax freed Ella. In embracing her imperfections, Jax owned Ella. Sometimes though, you have to fight for love and sometimes blood is destined to run a river. Sometimes, hate trumps love.
All Jax had to do was keep Ella safe, it all seemed so easy….

“Your scars might remind you of where you’ve been angel, but they don’t have to dictate where you’re going.” ~ Jaxon Carter

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:

Ella Munroe has nobody to keep her safe. She has been betrayed by her step father in the most terrifying way and her mother chooses not to notice, she is too busy drinking and shopping.

Ella takes her survival into her own hands and leaves before she can be raped. She finds herself helped by a stranger whose kindness was never forgotten. Rita’s kindness helped keep Ella safe for four years. Rita is an angel in her own right.

Ella winds up in Claymont where she has a possible job and spends a night in a women’s shelter.

A night that will eventually change her life, for the better.

Enter Jaxon Carter. The lad is ex military and has his own construction company. His mother runs Mercy’s Shelter For Abused Women and he works there helping to keep it running smoothly in between his day job. He is admittedly a bit of a lad about town with the ladies.

Ella is twenty two years old and she is coping the best she can with what life has dealt her. Jax knows how to talk to abused women. He knows how to show them he is a safe man to be around. He knows what triggers their panic.

He can’t help have unprofessional feelings for his Angel.

I loved it that Ella felt a sense of proprietary over me because hell, if another man so much as touched her I have no doubt I would roar like a wounded beast in anger.

Nice inner monologue Jax, but then you went and made an ass of yourself.

There are great sub characters in this book. Mercy is one of them. Her kindness and understanding and selflessness are what Angels are made of.

Dave is the therapist who helps the women out emotionally, he also has a thing for Mercy.

Charlie is Jax’s mate and works for him helping run the construction company. He is a big tatted up kickboxer. Sounds yum, doesn’t he. That is not a question but a statement.

Rebecca is the owner of Bouquets a florist shop and employs Ella. Rebecca is an awesome character. She has her own style and not much gets past her. You can get an idea of Rebecca’s style from the cover of Fighting Back. She is an old school fashionista. She also has a way with finding aptly titled plants. Ha!

I loved being in Jax’s head, listening to his inner thoughts and the way he felt about Ella. He knew to tread carefully. Ella had been through a lot. But, at the same time, Jax has some skeletons in his own closet rattling about. Some shiz he needed to work through.

“It’s not forgiveness you need Jax, you just need to let go of your past. Now is what matters,” she whispered on a yawn, her words so low I barely caught them.

This little angel had run long and hard; now it was time for her to settle down and have the future and dreams that every young woman deserved. Damn I was tired, bone tired. Too many years fighting, fighting for my country, fighting for my mom, fighting for strangers, a life filled with too much regret which I knew I shouldn’t feel, because at the end of the day, it brought me to Ella.

Ella was a character that was very believable. She was never over dramatic. Kindness is the only thing that can make her cry. She is a brave and at times fearless character. Her body and mind have been so abused and trained not to show emotion. I loved how she could see a person through their eyes. I totally get that.

This is a story about learning how to let somebody in and new beginnings.

“I want to learn you,” she murmured.

New beginnings come at a price in the name of  Marcus the evil step father ,who does not want to let Ella be.

Dillon is another great character, I really liked him. A loyal and honorable lad. I want to read more about him.

Saving Ella can't help you think about the volunteers and the people who keep abused women safe and look after homeless shelters. They truly are angels.

Looking forward to Charlie and Rebecca’s story next, Fighting Back, Mercy’s Angels # 2.  I can just see the big tatted kickboxer Charlie, with the old school styled, Rebecca. But I can imagine it is gonna be a bumpy ride.

Release date December 1st

Recommended for readers 18yrs +

Rebecca Donovan was missing intimacy, but no matter how much she longed for a man to warm her bed and heart, she would not give Charlie a second chance. Charlie Cole was missing Rebecca Donovan, yet his pride wouldn't allow him to beg. It took one life changing night to bring the two back together and this time neither was prepared to let the other go.

Kirsty: I try to write my books with deeply explored emotion that allows the reader to feel what the characters are feeling. There is passion and love, and always a HEA!!

Michelle:  What has been the one thing that stands out to you in your journey as a writer?

Kirsty: All the amazing people I have met. I’ve made so many super cool friends and industry people. I’ve found a very supportive network of authors, bloggers and artists/musicians and I’m so grateful to have them all.

Michelle: Where were you and what were you doing when you came up with the initial ideas for Saving Ella and Breeze Of Life?

Kirsty:  Saving Ella was when my sister-in-law, who is now my manager wanted a book written with her two favourite names, Jax and Ella. So, I sat down and thought, I can write her that story. It just kind of poured from me while I sat at my desk.

Breeze Of Life came to me while I was sitting at Snapper Rocks on the Gold Coast watching Kelly Slater surfing in the Quicksilver Pro. I wanted a story that captured Aussie beach life but something deep and emotional. It just came to me and I had to put Mercy’s Angels #2 on hold to get it out of my head.

Michelle: What has been the most memorable book signing or book event you have been to and why?

Kirsty:  I am attending my first one in March 2014, Indie Authors Down Under. I’ve never been to one as a fan or author so my Book Signing virginity is about to get busted! I can’t wait!

Michelle: If your life at this point in time could be described in a chocolate flavour or an icecream flavour, what flavour would it be and why?

Kirsty:  Haha, there is a Baskin and Robins Ice cream flavour called ‘wild n reckless’... What can I say, I’ve had a fun life so far. I’ve made some wild and reckless decisions that took my life around dangerous bends and thankfully some less dangerous ones. I’ve been lucky (occasionally unlucky), but learned from those experiences. I’m not so wild n’ reckless anymore, I’m a mum, that pulls you back into line a bit!

Michelle: Thankyou Kirsty for taking the time to answer my Q’s and all the best with your writing.
