BOOK COVER - CITY OF LOST SOULS by CASSANDRA CLARE - THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS # 5 - GORGEOUS, AWESOME, SWOON...WE HAVE A FACE TO JACE!!

BE STILL MY HEART!!

THE COVER

OF

CITY OF LOST SOULS

IS SWOON WORTHY

WE HAVE A FACE TO JACE

FINALLY!!

Looking at the cover we have Jace and Clary, lots of runes on their bodies and they are in each others arms ( wonderful!!) and I just saw on twitter, Paris, if I understood correctly. Ha! and apparently Jace has a Brazilian butt....on further inspection..yup! it's a nice tush!

I remember when I first laid eyes on this series in Big W , it was the same day I bought The Hunger Games.  I knew nothing of both book series. I purely went on Stephenie Meyer had her blurb on the front cover of City of Glass. It had just been released. Stephenie also had a blurb on The Hunger Games. I had been on my Merry-Go-Round of reading Twilight, 4 books, 9 times!! and it was time to get off. These were the first 5 books ( 3 x TMI and 2 x The Hunger Games) I had bought to read to get me off the Merry-Go -Round I was on.

Thank goodness Stephenie had her blurbs on them. I loved my Twilight saga, so I went with Stephenie as I hadn't heard much about both series , back then.

I have been in love with TMI series and Cassandra's writing ever since and I love The Hunger Games, I do have Mockingjay phobia...* shakes head* too scared to read last book in series, I will get through my phobia......eventually. ( I am getting there Carolyn!!)

I am now in love with The Infernal Devices series and have this addiction to Cassandra's writing that I must get a fix of each year or else........well it's not that crucial to life, but I do adore her writing. Cassandra is a quotes festival for my reviews. I even flew to Melbourne to her book signing, oh yeah! hubby left home with 3 kids and I would do it again! Such a warm nice person.

See Book Signings in left side bar for my adventure and vids of the night.

Anyhoo, YAY!! it's 2012 and City Of Lost Souls is released May 8th. I will be doing my happy dance when it arrives, The Pointer Sisters may have to help me out again. ( Clockwork Prince for reference to that comment)

Anyhoo, Cassandra and the peeps of book cover designing have done a smashing job again.

What do you think?

Michelle, Carolyn & Suzi's awesomesauce Cassandra Clare , Down Under, Melbourne , Australia, Book Signing Ladycation Part 1

Yes that is Michelle (me)  popping my noggin up, rather sneakily into the pic with Cassandra and her hubby , in background. I am in stealth mode hoping I am not noticed..lol!!! ( check out my half guilty face)

I am going to start by giving an ENORMOUS THANKYOU!!! to Cassandra Clare for being so gracious and signing a folder of goodies. THANKYOU!!! We so appreciated it!!

Joanna Bennett from Walker Books , kindly liaised with me in regard to picking up the signed items from Cassandra's hotel. THANKYOU !! to Joanna, very nice lady.

There were approximately 350 peeps who attended the evening with Cassandra Clare and the High Warlock, Magnus Bane ( aka Melbourne author Leanne Hall ) book signing event at the Palace Westgarth Theatre in Northcote, Melbourne at 6.30pm.

Our Build Up To The Evening

Joanna Bennett from Walker books
and
Cassandra Clare
(The gift bag is almost in the way)
Once Miss Suzi ( our bookmark queen) had arrived at our hotel in full huggles and kisses mode ( I hadn't seen her since last September) at 2.00pm on Wednesday 25th May and Carolyn and I were all giggly etc with seeing Suzi , we had some catching up and then it was getting dressed and fluffed and buffed for meeting Cassandra. The older ya get, the longer it takes. Suzi ironed ( errr...yes used the iron and ironing board) on my hair, we were in black outfits and ready to catch a tram to Northcote. Now Suzi lives in Melbourne and shame on her she has never rode the tram, so she was kinda useless in our endeavour to get to Northcote on time. ( sorry Suzi, you were useless..lol!! )

Carolyn and Suzi in killer stiletto boots,
note the runes on their hands.
After walking 8 blocks, Suzi in killer stiletto boots,  Isabelle would be proud of..we get the number 86 tram to Northcote. now you would think this new wang fangle ticket system we could use, apparently named Mikey, I thought Jace might have been a nicer name...but nobody asked my opinion..anyhoo we 3 all stared at Mikey and because Suzi is useless helping us with tramming...hee..hee.. ( if that's a word) , we didn't know what to do with Mikey, so we asked fellow commuters and whallah tickets spewed from Mikey.

Now that is all well and good but nobody seemed to know what tram stop to get off at...so after 40 mins, Carolyn looking rather concerned we weren't going to arrive on time...I rugby tackled a few commuters up to the driver, tapped on his teeny window, he slid it open and he told me next stop, mean while Carolyn has hopped off..but we scooped her back on.

I am tackling Suzi, not sure why, seemed good
idea at the time..loL!!!
We arrive at 6.15pm, a lady comes up to us, so we must have looked reasonably like Shadowhunters...gave us a postcard each and Suzi and I got a Heal/Painless, runes necklace. Carolyn didn't, but she didn't dress up, according to the lady, so me the quick thinker said she was a human subjugate, so we got Carolyn a necklace too....hee..hee. ( well Carolyn did come all the way from Perth , Western Australia)

Carolyn tackling me..errr..again
not sure why?? lol!!
I am like an energiser bunny by now...all jabber jabber, bouncy , bouncy, because I am soooo excited. So I fly into the theatre with Carolyn and we get 3rd row on far right. Beautiful old theatre.
I'm organising all my cameras, memory cards, notepad, to calm down. Theatre is chock full of fans a lot had dressed up, which was fun to see. I loved the Silent Brothers..hee..hee.. they were very cute and the person whose skin was green with blonde hair...I think was Fey???? One girl was Camilla I think, very nicely done. Some great looking Isabelle's. Suzi comes and sits with us and she draws the Fearless rune on my neck and chest, and Carolyn gets heal rune on her hand..errr... then I realise we kinda just killed her as she human and well humans can't handle runes...and Suzi put one on her hand .

Jace, Clary, Hodge and Alec
A wonderful scene was played out from City of Bones with Hodge , Alec, Jace and Clary. Then.....

.....it was Cassandra Clare and Magnus Bane ( aka Leanne Hall) taking the stage. Poor Cassandra had a broken toe!!!

Clary and Hodge

The rest is on the videos...I have Part 1 for you below.

After the Q & A's we all stampeded, reasonably well behaved , into this enormous line that snaked up stairs , round corner, got cut off and then started again down stairs and went outside theatre!!! Well 350 peeps will do that.

Cassandra Clare and Magnus bane
aka Melbourne author Leanne Hall
It was not a long wait for us as I did reasonably well in the line about half hour waiting. I have every now and then tweeted Cassandra and I let her know we were coming. I was going to try to be all formal and act my age..lol!! but I got a bit nervous, I did reasonably well considering, she was sooooo nice she gave me a kinda hi five hand shake in the air when I babbled out I was from book blog Novels On The Run. She was very, very, nice and I thrust a goodie bag in her face as again, tad nervous with Tim Tams, Anzac bikkies, Twisties and a koala card in it, thanking her and rambling on no doubt. She signed my books, I don't even remember half of it I was that excited, but LOL!! I do remember saying I loved her...( oh dear...what can I say...)

I introduced Suzi as our designer and Carolyn as our guest reviewer and she said hello to them and was lovely.

Yup!! Still not sure what we are doing...hee...hee
Then we were all giggly standing to the side and I took a couple snaps but I didn't use flash as Í didn't want to keep flashing Cassandra .

We stood and watched her and the crowd for a bit and the one thing I noticed was Cassandra had a smile and something to say to everyone and really looked happy to be signing everything people gave her. She really looked like she was having as much fun as everybody else. We gave her a shout out goodbye and thankyou when we left and she said bye to us. A really, really lovely person.

Then after some Peri Peri chips across road at Nandos we were back on tram where I think the excitement of the night got the better of me and  I got the worst case of the giggles , so proceeded to giggle in fits all the way back to our hotel.

Crikey, it was an awesome night,  I would do it again!!

ENJOY THE VIDS BELOW MORE TO COME...

Keep a look out for Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4 of the vids I took of the evening. Cassandra had awesome answers to the questions.

BOOK REVIEW - CITY OF FALLEN ANGELS by CASSANDRA CLARE - NO SPOILERS

By: Cassandra Clare
Published by : Walker Books ( Australia)
Released : Available Now
Details : Paperback, 424 Pages

RATING : 6 JACE and SIMON BEAUTIFUL STARS OUT OF 5!!!

Book Blurb : Taken from Goodreads

City of Fallen Angels is the fourth book in the bestselling series The Mortal Instruments.

“City of Fallen Angels takes place two months after the events of City of Glass. In it, a mysterious someone’s killing the Shadowhunters who used to be in Valentine’s Circle and displaying their bodies around New York City in a manner designed to provoke hostility between Downworlders and Shadowhunters, leaving tensions running high in the city and disrupting Clary’s plan to lead as normal a life as she can — training to be a Shadowhunter, and pursuing her relationship with Jace. As Jace and Clary delve into the issue of the murdered Shadowhunters, they discover a mystery that has deeply personal consequences for them — consequences that may strengthen their relationship, or rip it apart forever. Meanwhile, internecine warfare among vampires is tearing the Downworld community apart, and only Simon — the Daylighter who everyone wants on their side — can decide the outcome; too bad he wants nothing to do with Downworld politics. Love, blood, betrayal and revenge: the stakes are higher than ever in City of Fallen Angels.”

BOOK REVIEW:

I sit back feeling totally raw and exhausted after reading City Of Fallen Angels, the 4th instalment in The Mortal Instruments series .

Once you are pulled into the Shadowhunter world , Cassandra’s world , anything is possible..... I was strapped in for one hell of a ride for the small price of a book .

Crikey, City Of Fallen Angels was

AWWWWE.....SOME!!!!

Cassandra is uber, uber, good at making her readers ‘feel’ each of her characters. One minute I am Clary , then I will morph into Simon. I’m not just reading words. I’m ‘feeling’ too.

Cassandra made me love Simon even more than I already did after reading COFA. He is just the most beautiful , beautiful boy. Alec and Magnus.... bless them , Isabelle has more of a voice , which I loved. ( I am deliberately not mentioning Jace as I won’t be able to stop myself...* whispers..he is still uber smexi ... sigh*

New characters are added seamlessly. The POW’s ( didn’t see that coming, OMG moments) were awesome. Those curve balls where you think you are headed somewhere and then ..oo whiplash...curve ball. I felt sad, laughed, ooo dark , felt anxious, felt confused, many emotions come forth.

Yes Ms Clare has gone darker in this 2nd series within the series. I did go ‘ewwwwww’ in moments of éwwwwness’, but this is a good thing in an ‘OMG’ way.

COFA has a lot going on and Cassandra handles it with ease. The interwoven side stories were amazing . I could see a nice big,  colourful,  patchwork quilt with all these squares of storyline that when stitched together it truly makes you sit back look at it and go WOW!!

We see deeper into characters , Cassandra knows we have gotten to know and love her characters so she lets us delve deeper, learn more. I feel like I know them so much better. We have known each other for a few years now.

After all those teasers that I read before the release date, that I promised myself I wouldn’t read, but it’s like dangling your most delicious treat in front of you and trying not to devour it...... we always devour it. I had to laugh at all my theories after reading City Of Glass then the COFA teasers that I had bouncing around in my head. One I got right...the rest..bah!! I’m no Nancy Drew.

Oh the gorgeously funny one liners in COFA. I would be all tense and reading and then Simon and Jace.... I can say no more. I love writing my fave quotes in my reviews, but for the moment , I can’t, for fear of spoiling. I think Simon and Jace and their back and forth are some of my fave parts of the book. I note when I read and I always note page numbers for fave quotes, well I have a heap of them from COFA, with SBOL ( short burst of laughter) .

I know we are all saying it, so I might as well join in ....I soooooooo can’t wait for City Of Lost Souls, for those of you who have read COFA......we all know why. For those of you who haven’t...do I have to state the obvious....find a copy..read....seriously:D

And so the countdown widgets start again...I believe those numbers truly haunt me ....lol!!

Congratulations on such an awesome book Cassandra, I am so glad you decided writing was your thing in life, imagine if you hadn’t........

Michelle

p.s.. I look at my review and it feels naked without my fave quotes:(

REPORTED - ALEX PETTYFER OFFERED ROLE OF JACE WAYLAND - CITY OF BONES MOVIE

Alex Pettyfer has reportedly been offered the role of 'Jace Wayland' in the up and coming , highly anticipated , 'City Of Bones ',  movie, adapted from the book written by Cassandra Clare. Now he hasn't accepted and I am holding my squeeeeEEEeee in  ( yes older people can squee too, nothing wrong with that in a non creepy , pervy way), he just fits the part soooooo well. We all know that, and that's what is important, people!!! Now I shall inwardly show my excitement until it is confirmed, which hopefully soon, I honestly can't take the wait any longer. These are my 3 picks for the 3 main leads. MY 3 PICKS not confirmed 3.

ALEX PETTYFER - JACE

LILY COLLINS - CLARY

LOGAN LERMAN - SIMON

LATEST NEWS!!!  CASSANDRA CLARE VIA HER LIVE JOURNAL , QUOTE:

"I wanted to wait till I could have an official chat with the studio folks before I said anything, so my small contribution is: I know Alex has met with the director, Scott Stewart, several times; I know he screened Scott's movie, Priest, and loved it; I know he read the TMI books over the holidays and really liked them and liked Jace, and his representatives are negotiating making a deal for the role of Jace. At this point it's all about the deal, which really doesn't have anything to do with me, so I stand back and wait for news like the rest of you. Anyone for a game of Scrabble?"

BOOK REVIEW - CITY OF GLASS -THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS SERIES # 3 by Cassandra Clare

By : Cassandra Clare
Published By : Walker Books
Released : Available Now
Details: Paperback, 492 Pages

RATING 5 SMEXI JACE STARS!!!

Book Blurb : Taken From Goodreads

To save her mother's life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters -- never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.

As Clary uncovers more about her family's past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadow-hunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadow-hunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he's willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her new found powers to help save the Glass City -- whatever the cost?

BOOK REVIEW:

I first picked up the 3 book TMI series along with Suzanne Collins's, The Hunger Games and Catching Fire at Big W in 2009 . Now the funny thing..or not funny...is that the only reason I picked up these 5 books is because Stephenie Meyer had her blurb on City Of Glass and also The Hunger Games. I had never heard of these books until I was standing in Big W looking at the Evernight series by Claudia Gray ( truly awesome series) and pondering what other books I should sneak into my trolley. Now I was in my Twimom obssession well and truly and was trying my darnest to get off the Merry - Go- Round of Twilight series . ( 9 times and counting) Round and round I was going until some friends literally threw me off , told me to get a grip and read something else. Then I opened and started reading City Of Bones.......the rest is history. Stephenie Meyer helped me to move forward and I am so glad she did.

By now if you have read City Of Bones and City Of Ashes you are very familiar with the characters, Jace, Clary, Simon, Alec, Isabelle, Luke, Jocelyn, Magnus Bane and Valentine.

City Of Glass takes us to Idris and Alicante the home of the Shadowhunters. Jace's home. Jace is forever trying to protect Clary, and she is always jumping in head first, quite literally in this book. Clary has a power within her that she doesn't truly understand . A power the Clave would want to use, making her their personal weapon. Jace needs it kept a secret out of fear for Clary.

Clary must get to Ragnor Fell a powerful Warlock who can help her find what she needs to wake Jocelyn up .

Poor Simon is always in the wars a bit these days and this book is no exception. Simon is coming into his own . He is rather fearless if he stopped and thought about himself.  Valentine is still the ever present evil daddy , hellbent on seeing his vision come to fruitition.

New characters are introduced, Sebastian being one of them............ *wiggles eyebrows*.

Truths are revealed that will knock you sideways, a kleenex ( tissue) moment will appear, betrayal is severe, blood is shed, kick butt fighting scenes, corruption, rules broken, new rules made  and love just doesn't want to take a back seat.

Jace is just awesome in this book. His heart is pounded to a pulp but he can't give up. Clary the ever smart female lead takes things into her own hands to bring order to the Clave .

Some scenes in this book would look wonderful on the big screen. All I will say is the Angel scenes would look fantastic . I got rather excited with the grass groping scene..lol!!!

I have brought up my theory with Cassandra Clare in regards to Magnus Bane. I shall say no more here, but I think I am onto something. ( Well I am pretty sure I am... *mumbles to myself* ) I think we may all be in for a shock....eeek gasp!!!...or not.

FAVE QUOTES:

"If I feel the urge to burst into flames, I'll let you know."

"Much as I hate to admit it , vampire , we have something in common."
 "Totally awesome hair?" Simon suggested........

"Fine . Go ahead . Kiss me, right now."
......"Exactly. Despite my staggering good looks, ...."

"It's my cologne. Eau de recent Injury."

"Nice, bah. He's gorgeous."Magnus gazed dreamily in his direction. "You should leave him here. I could hang hats on him and things."

".....to protect you from the sort of boys who want to do with you exactly what I want to do."

"You had to make a crazy jail friend, didn't you? You couldn't just count ceiling tiles or tame a pet mouse like normal prisoners do?"

"Has there ever been an Inquisitor who didn't die a horrible death?" he wondered aloud. "It's like being the drummer in Spinal Tap."

"I'm not going to do that."
"Of course you're not," said Jace,  "because you live to torture me, don't you?"
"Not everything , Jace, is about you, " Clary said furiously.
"Possibly, " Jace said, "but you have to admit that the majority of things are."

"I must be the only vampire in the world sickened by the sight of blood."

"And meanwhile, I'll die a little bit more every day, watching."

my fave.....sigh....

"I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there's life after that, I'll love you then."

If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go -- especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil -- and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings -- and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

BOOK REVIEW:

This was such an exciting book to read. The story of Jace and Clary, Simon and Luke and the Lightwoods in their endeavour to stop Valentine from collecting the Mortal Instruments and performing the ritual.

Poor Jace is up against the Inquisitor and proving his innocence. Loyalties are pushed, truths are bared, demons are everywhere. Downworlders are being sacrificed and Valentine must be stopped.

Jace and Clary must coexist no matter the smexual tension. Poor Simon is a bit worst for wear in this book. Wow !! How good would one particular scene in this book look in a movie involving Simon.
This whole book would look brill in a movie, a spectacular fighting scene I saw visually exploding on the big screen.

Jace is just selfless during this book with Simon, I knew my cocky , ego boy had deeper layers.

New characters introduced, other characters coming more into the foreground. Just spectacular writing by Cassandra Clare. Always showing her ablility to be witty with certain characters. Just a roller coaster of a ride .

The Inquisitor needed a darn good slap from me on several occassions and Simon needed a cuddle. Jace..well Jace is still my lovely boy I adore always thinking ahead to save the day. Clary is just one fearless , jump then worry about how big the jump actually is female lead who will roll her sleeves up and get in there with the best of them. Jace has his hands full just trying to stay ahead of her.

I actually read this book sometime ago and had to recap to do this review as the book is just jam packed with storyline. It's actually rather hard not to give anything away as I am typing. I can't recommend these YA books enough. They are such a fun, fast paced, exciting at times emotional ride. I have fave scenes in the book , but I can't mention them:( for fear of giving this wonderful book story away.

FAVE QUOTES:

"She said she doesn't want it," said Simon. "Ha-ha."
"Ha-ha?" Jace looked incredulous. "That's your comeback?"

"Look on the bright side , " said Simon. "If they need a human sacrifice, you can always offer me. I'm not sure the rest of you qualify anyway."

"It's my motto,"said Isabelle, with a sultry smile. "Nothing less than seven inches."

"Well , I'm not kissing the mundane, " said Jace. "I'd rather stay down here and rot."
"Forever?" said Simon. "Forever's an awfully long time."
Jace raised his eyebrows. "I knew it," he said. "You want to kiss me, don't you?"

"It's not often you get to see someone drool, " Jace observed. "Especially with such total abandon. Mouth wide open and everything."

"I don't have to come out to my mother," said Simon. "She already thinks I'm gay....."

"Oh you know. Jace reminds me of an old boyfriend. Some guys look at you like they want sex. Jace looks at you like you've already had sex, it was great, and now you're just friends----
even though you want more. Drives girls crazy...."

"No, I'm just a very naughty boy. I do all sorts of bad things. I kick kittens. I make rude gestures at nun's. "

"I thought I'd lie on the floor and writhe in pain for a while," he grunted. 'It relaxes me."

"You disappear so completely into your head sometimes, " he said. "I wish I could follow you."

and my fave!!!

"Everytime you almost die, I almost die myself."
