Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.
Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.
But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.
If you couldn’t be sure you could win the fight with a fae?
When in doubt, get the fuck out.
I.
LOVED.
IT!
I.
LOVED.
REN!
That is all I really need to say...but I will say more.
The setting is New Orleans and Jennifer described it beautifully. I was there.
Ivy Morgan is twenty two years old and whilst this book appears YA...ish at first...ooo mamma the smexy comes into play.
Speaking of smexy.
REN.
Good Lawd I love his character.
Ivy basically falls at his feet and then he just keeps on hanging about. Well, there is also that organization called The Order that they are both working for.
TINK!
I.
LOVE.
TINK!
I have read an urban fantasy series where there is a faerie who is a guy and quite the awesome side kick, well Tink is hilarious and real good value as far as side kick brownies go.
LOVED HIM!
I started to fire back, but Tink suddenly appeared in the open doorway, and what the? He had one of those skillets just large enough to cook an egg in, and he was holding it over his head like a battle-axe. I was kind of surprised that he could carry the pan, but Tink was buff for a little guy. He had a six-pack –a brownie six-pack. His face was contorted in a silent battle cry as he started into the room.
He has such awesome lines.
The knock came again, and I grabbed Tink by the waist. “Hey!” He shouted, gripping my fingers with his hand. “Careful, Godzilla-sized woman. You’re squishing my insides.”
“You should’ve warned me,” Tink muttered crossly. “I’m the one who had to see his dong swinging around—"
This book had a bit of JLA sliding in her gal pal authors for sneaky little easter eggs. You will spot a few of them.
I will admit in all honesty I did predict a couple outcomes but I still got that very last BAM moment which I had forgotten about and I got me a surprise, which was cool.
I also wondered if I would get a meaning for the cover art...and yes I did in one sentence.
I’d keep falling underwater when it came to him.
I loved this fae tale of betrayal and...the end is nigh.
Ren I could honestly gush all day about him but I will let you read him for yourself. He is simply gorgeous book boyfriend material.
The guy couldn’t be very much older than me or it was the head full of curly brown hair that made him appear so young. One matching eyebrow arched as I stared into eyes the color of leaves in the spring, a rich almost unnatural green. Cheekbones were broad, jaw strong and cut like it was made of marble, and those lips were impossibly full as they curved into a slow grin on one side, revealing he had a deep dimple in his right cheek.
Tilting my head back, I frowned in confusion. “Huh?”
“You have it pulled up.” Reaching out, he caught the end of a stray curl along my temple. “It’s cute, but when it’s down? Fucking hot.”
Ren’s grin was like dark chocolate, smooth and rich.
Ren’s lips swept over the line of my cheek and his nose brushed mine. “I bet you have the softest pair of lips out there. And I bet you taste sweet -- sweeter than one of those beignets you’ve got me addicted to.” His hand squeezed around the back of my neck. “But you got one hell of a bite—a kick to that sweetness. It’ll be rough getting in there, and you’re going to fight it every step of the way, but it’ll be smooth once I’m there.”
“How would you like it if I just went around and started pulling up your shirt?”
He paused, raising both eyebrows. “I’d fucking love it.”
*sigh*
I gotta say when this book sizzled ...it sizzled like bacon on a hot plate, especially this one scene in particular.
