One lost love.
One lost best friend.
One hot soul reaper.
Straight out of the psyche ward, Cora just wants her life to be normal. She doesn’t want to see souls or the reapers collecting them. The love of her life, the guy she’s loved from a distance for years, has moved away without saying goodbye. So yes, she’s nursing a serious heartbreak. It’s no wonder love is the last thing on her mind when Echo storms into her life.
The chemistry between them is mind-blowing. The connection defies logic. It doesn’t help that Echo is the poster boy for everything she hates in a guy—hot, beautiful, and cocky. A general pain-in-the-butt. Being around him makes her feel more alive than she’s ever felt before. But more important, the souls leave her alone when he is around.
Echo is perfect for her. Echo might even be her soul-mate. There is only one problem. Echo is a freaking soul reaper. A Grimnir. The very beings she wants out of her life. Maybe normal is overrated because Cora wants it all. Answers. Love. A life. You see, once you fall for a Grimnir, your life will never be the same again.
EXCERPT
My heart picked up tempo. What was he going to do? So what if they found out I could see them? Who was Maliina? I kept my eyes glued to the pages of the magazine, but I could see him coming closer and closer.
“Enough!” Torin snapped, appearing beside Andris.
“Ooh, why do you always spoil my fun?” Andris griped, but I could hear the laughter in his voice. “You can’t be everywhere, big bro. I’ll corner her at school when you’re not around.”
“Hel’s mist, Andris,” Torin snarled. “If you are bored, find a freaking distraction. A girlfriend or a boyfriend. Just leave her alone. She’s Raine’s best friend, which means you don’t mess with her.”
“Boys. Boys. Fighting over me again?”
Echo. I almost turned. I blew a shaky breath and bit my lower lip to stop myself from smiling.
“What are you doing here, Grimnir?” Andris snarled.
“Always nice to see you, Andy.” Echo bowed to Torin. “My Lord St. James, Earl of something-something. No, you lost that title along the way, didn’t you? In the most humiliating—”
“Shut up, Echo,” Torin said. “You are not supposed to be here.”
Echo chuckled. “Really? Last time I checked, hospitals are my hunting ground, which makes you bitches trespassers.”
Someone growled. Probably Andris since I couldn’t see Torin losing control like that.
“Outside, Echo,” Torin snapped. “Now!”
“Since you didn’t say please... Who’s this beauty?” He came into my line of vision and studied me. It took all my effort not to kick him.
“Don’t even look at her wrong or you’ll have Raine to deal with,” Andris warned.
“Torin’s mate?” Echo asked, reaching out to touch my hair. Torin grabbed his wrist. “Völur don’t scare me.”
BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:
I always look forward to reading an installment in the Runes series. I think Torin is a very special character and now I can add Echo to that list too.
Runes # 1, I thought was a great start. I totally loved Immortals # 2 in the series. Raine grew on me, Torin was just so darn smexi and Andris won me over with his wit and humor. He is an awesome story side kick. Probably one of my fave.
I understand Ednah is going to be doing these #.5 reads on her sub characters in between resuming back to the adventures of Torin and Raine.
I like this idea.
I am going to be honest and explain my thoughts of how I personally felt with Cora and Echo’s #.5 read.
I did enjoy this story. Echo is a really gorgeous character.
I felt the first half of the book was a little slow paced , it did pick up for me in the latter half.
I did find myself confused like Cora in the first part of the book. Now that is not a bad thing because we are supposed to feel confused like Cora. We find out as she finds out, but it did leave me a little floundering, but again, that is how Cora would have been feeling. Cora has quite a lot to deal with, a lot that she doesn't understand.
I felt like a lot of the excitement happened pretty quickly in the latter part of the book and was resolved pretty easily, considering the rules of Mortals/Immortals/Grimnirs.
We know there was the Eirik/Raine/Torin thing happening in Runes, I was very pleased to see that this didn’t turn into the Eirik/Cora/Echo show.
Eirik's character has me intrigued as to where Ednah will be taking him with what we learn in this installment.
It felt different having a full sized read on a sub character with Raine, Torin and Andris popping up from time to time.
Cora has her abilities no thanks to Maliina and that didn’t take shape until the latter part of the story.
I really love Echo. I really like Cora. I knew they would wind up together. Raine and Torin can break the rules, why can’t Cora and Echo, so that was pretty much a given in my mind.
I couldn’t help thinking that I would have loved to have seen the impact of what being at PMI had on Cora or have her talking about what she went through at the institution. I thought personally that would have been great. Cora didn’t seem to hold it against her parents for sending her there. I think I would have. A mental institution is not a place to take lightly and what would have happened to her there. But that is just my one opinion. It felt like a puzzle piece was missing from her life that I wanted to explore.

But hey, this is not my story to tell.
I would have really liked to have seen Cora show some emotion from being at the institution. It was lightly touched on.
In some ways this novella was a little long for me.
I did enjoy the couple twists Ednah threw in. They were great!
Ednah has also upped the smexi. This is a YA read but she got awfully close to New Adult. Not that I am complaining. I actually liked it because Echo is very experienced and also much , much older in Immortal years.
This isn’t his first rodeo.
Echo certainly put spice into this installment and I loved Cora and Echo together. I love the way Echo behaves around Cora.
Maliina is an EXCELLENT villain. I really enjoy how Ednah writes her character.
Maliina is very devious.
Mwah ha ha ha haaaaa.... haaaa.

A worthy villain.
Andris is always a fave character of mine. He still has some great lines in this book. He was floating about coming to Cora’s aide when needed. He does put a smile on my face. He appears such a free spirit but... we know he has some layers under that facade.
Echo is an absolutely gorgeous character I hope we hear from him more in future installments. I like the dynamic between him and the other male characters. They sort of like him, but they don't. They tolerate him.
This was a good #.5 sub character story for me. I can see lots of five stars being slapped down on Goodreads and that is excellent to see. I was probably looking for a bit more meat in my sanga considering the number of pages.

I was hovering between 3.75 stars and 4 stars for my review rating, but Echo just brought it up to a 4 star for me because he is awesome to read. He has a great male lead presence.
I am looking forward to Seeress # 3 due for release April 2014. I need me some Raine and Torin adventures.
