“All my life, I battled with the knowledge I was twisted… fucked up to want something so deliciously dark—wrong on so many levels. But then slave fifty-eight entered my world. Hissing, fighting, with a core of iron, she showed me an existence where two wrongs make a right."
Tess is Q’s completely. Q is Tess’s irrevocably. But now, they must learn the boundaries of their unconventional relationship, while Tess seeks vengeance on the men who sold her. Q made a blood-oath to deliver their corpses at Tess’s feet, and that’s just what he’ll do.
He may be a monster, but he’s Tess’s monster.
BOOK REVIEW by Michelle:
Man, can Pepper Winters write.
When Pepper writes a dark romance she does not hold back. She is a very honest writer with what she wants to express to the reader. She goes places few can emulate because she is so honest and open with her writing.
She will go ...there!
Pepper delivers.
Pepper lets Q’s beast roam wild.
Holy hell does he roam wild!
Q is dark.
Q has extremely dark desires.
Q is darker than dark.
Q is $^*&%*&#$*# dark, that is how dark he is.
Q is like no other male character I have read to date.
Q is fierce with his love for Tess.
Q is a contradiction to his cause.
Q is dangerous.
She had me peeping through my fingers.
Q has found the one that completes him.
I captured her mouth like she was the last woman on earth. The only woman for me.
This is not a story that is all about Q's dark desires. This is also a story about revenge. A story about two broken people coming together.
Fighting to keep their sanity.
Fighting back.
When Q is in warrior form, he is unstoppable .
He is a law unto his own.
All I thought about was blood.
I dropped my eyes and let myself be free. I smashed through my walls, unlocked the cage, and snarled like the rabid animal I was. The false me ceased to exist. The real me was ready.
I really like Frederick and Franco. The two men Q trusts. Franco is more like Q. Both are explicitly loyal to Q.
I have so many quotes I noted down when reading this book. Pepper’s books are full of quotes. I have a thing about quotes. To me it is a great part of writing an awesome story.
I got to say whatever floats your boat, but Q is painfully extreme with his desires. Being inside Q’s head for part of this book is brilliant because we can see his mind ticking over and his voice is quite amazing to listen to.
I swallowed back the thick taste of lust and murmured, “Too fucking late, esclave. I’m ruined beyond redemption.” In the last moment of gentleness, I pressed my forehead against hers and breathed deep. “I’m lost.” Then the gentleness left, abandoning me to the hard-edged need to hurt.
Tess knows what she needs to do to find another side to Q, but will she be given a chance to do it her way?
Some basic part of me, the unthinking but all-sensing part, knew I had to break Q completely before he could embrace the softer side of what we could have.
Q was born into darkness, created by circumstances he wouldn’t share with me, but if anyone of us was damaged, it was him. I wanted him to no longer fear himself. He no longer had to be alone.
Pepper writes Q perfectly. When he talks we sit up and take notice. He is hard to ignore. You won’t find your mind wandering when Q is talking. His inner monologue is showing us how much of him is the beast.

Wow! WoW!
...And WOW!!
It is very hard to put into words Pepper’s writing. She blew me out of the blogosphere with Quincy and his Tess.

A complete contradiction - a man with two desires.
She had me peeping through my fingers.
Q has found the one that completes him.
I captured her mouth like she was the last woman on earth. The only woman for me.
I may be a controlling bastard, but the moment Tess stalked into my life I lost my balls to her.
His perfect monster in his very dark life.
And I lived in a constant battleground, fighting the delicious satisfaction at her pain against my morality and horror at hurting her.
Q can at times be a challenge to understand and watch. He has dark needs, he has a need to inflict pain. He has a need for blood.
He must release his beast.
But, he has found someone willing to consent to his desires, willing to take part, willing to receive pain.
“You’re wrong to think your box of horrors scares me. It doesn’t."
Two monsters in the dark.

Two monsters in the dark.
Tess stood before me. Her toned legs splayed, hands on her hips. So proud and regal in her own body. I couldn’t tear my eyes away. The beast inside prowled and hurled itself against the cage, trying so hard to get at her.
Q was all my nightmares, fantasies, and needs rolled into one bestial package. He was my drug of choice and I’d been craving him for four long days.
These two characters are very passionate in their own way.
...“You’re my wings. You made me fly.”
“I’ll never be free of your force.”
No other man had a voice like Q. Dark, dangerous, laced with a melodic French accent. Being reprimanded by him was pure audio perfection.

I liked her on top, but I didn’t like her holding me as if she was in control. It wasn’t how I worked.
Pepper is graphic with her writing and that is what makes her writing very honest. She is not bringing us a half baked tale. She lays all her cards on the table when it comes to the violence of trafficking and what Tess is put through.
This type of story could not work without an author being brutally honest and brutally graphic in their writing.
I am not into reading a lot of dark romances but it is a pleasure to read Pepper.
Q may not be a character who is for everyone of mature age, but I highly recommend this series as it is quite a spectacular read.
Unapologetically dark!
I can't leave out the birds. Pepper has again brought the significance of the birds beautifully into the story.
On a lighter note, there is a wonderful scene with Q and his birds, but dang, I could not help thinking there would be a shiz load of bird poop.
Ha!
Tears of Tess was the entree, Quintessentially Q the main course. I am not sure how Pepper is going to top these two books, but I am sure she will.
