Harris created The Sookie Stackhouse urban fantasy series about a telepathic waitress named Sookie Stackhouse who works in a bar in the fictional Northern Louisiana town of Bon Temps. The first book in the series, Dead Until Dark, won the Anthony Award for Best Paperback Mystery in 2001. Each book follows Sookie through her adventures involving vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures. The series, which now numbers eleven titles, has been released worldwide.
Sookie Stackhouse has proven to be so popular that Alan Ball, creator of the HBO television series Six Feet Under, announced he would undertake the production of a new HBO series based upon the books. He wrote and directed the pilot episode for that series, True Blood, which premiered in September of 2008. It was an instant success and is now in its fifth season.
Over 830 000 copies of the Sookie Stackhouse novels have been sold in Australia.

Charlaine Harris’s bestselling Southern Vampire Mysteries series has become a worldwide phenomenon and turned its lead heroine Sookie Stackhouse into a household name with the success of HBO’s brilliantly dark and sexy TV adaptation, True Blood. Deadlocked is the latest adventure for Sookie and the penultimate novel in the series which comes to its end with the 13th book in 2013. Over 3m copies of her books have been sold in the UK and 830 000 in Australia and the TV series is as addictive as ever with viewers as it moves into its fifth season on Australia’s Showtime Channel in June 2012.
The end is coming…. The penultimate novel in fiction’s sexiest series is the hottest yet.
It’s vampire politics as usual around the town of Bon Temps, but never before have they hit so close to Sookie’s heart…
Growing up with telepathic abilities, Sookie Stackhouse realised early on there were things she’d rather not know. And now that she’s an adult, she also realises that some things she knows about, she’d rather not see—like Eric Northman feeding off another woman. A younger one.
There’s a thing or two she’d like to say about that, but she has to keep quiet—Felipe de Castro, the Vampire King of Louisiana (and Arkansas and Nevada), is in town. It’s the worst possible time for a human body to show up in Eric’s front yard—especially the body of the woman whose blood he just drank.
Now, it’s up to Sookie and Bill, the official Area Five investigator, to solve the murder. Sookie thinks that, at least this time, the dead girl’s fate has nothing to do with her. But she is wrong. She has an enemy, one far more devious than she would ever suspect, who’s set out to make Sookie’s world come crashing down.
“What makes Harris a leader in her field is her insistence upon emphasising the normal in the paranormal. Sookie may read minds and date vampires and lycanthropes but she is essentially an ordinary small-town Southern girl, serving burgers and booze in the local bar to good ol’ boys named Catfish and Jim Bob. There is sex and romance in the True Blood novels but these stories are never another generically spooky sensual reverie. Then there’s Harris’s wickedly iconoclastic sense of humour…”
SYDNEY MORNING HERALD
“Harris effectively places often monstrous acts within contemporary mores by a clever use of language and character”
CANBERRA TIMES
“On paper, as on the small screen, Harris's contemporary gothic tale is highly engaging. Her characters may sound far-fetched but she convincingly portrays the supernatural creatures. She allows them to function alongside civilians in their human forms, albeit with unusual habits… Charmingly, Sookie channels the author's provincial roots with phrases such as "pay a trip to the bathroom" and, when remarking on Jason's bad mood, "my brother was building up a big mad". But where Harris's story truly compels is her willingness to surpass predictable vampire romance. Tender kisses may suit Twilight readers but Harris prefers urgent and lusty sex, which Sookie craves from her dead lover. The author further casts aside her real-life Episcopalian church duties in Dead in the Family by including homosexuality and fetish outfits, as worn by the patrons of Fangtasia. That the 58-year-old can convincingly tie all this together with an extensive cast of characters - some from the Civil War, others from more than 1000 years ago - marks her skill as an adept writer and a font of imagination. Vampires and hirsute creatures Harris's books are every bit as gripping as the hit TV series”
SUN HERALD
“wonderful escapist fantasy, and will appeal to fans of almost every genre and subgenre you can conceive of: horror, romance, mystery, action, comedy, drama, fantasy, and everything in between”
THE SPECUSPHERE
“Light, slick and eminently readable” THE OBSERVER
“She layers plotlines brilliantly, delivering convincing emotional storylines as well as plenty of action” SFX
“Harris offers a brilliant cocktail of domestic drama and supernatural adventure.” DAILY MAIL

Biography
Charlaine Harris a New York Times bestselling author who has been writing for thirty years. She was born and raised in the Mississippi River Delta area. Though her early works consisted largely of poems about ghosts and teenage angst, she began writing plays when she attended Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. She switched to novels a few years later, and achieved publication in 1981 with Sweet and Deadly.
After publishing two stand-alone mysteries, Harris launched the light-hearted Aurora Teagarden books with Real Murders, a Best Novel 1990 nomination for the Agatha Awards. Harris wrote eight books in her series about a Georgia librarian. In 1996, she released the first in the much darker Shakespeare mysteries, featuring the amateur sleuth Lily Bard, a karate student who makes her living cleaning houses. Shakespeare's Counselor, the fifth - and last - was printed in 2001.
After Shakespeare, Harris created The Sookie Stackhouse urban fantasy series about a telepathic waitress named Sookie Stackhouse who works in a bar in the fictional Northern Louisiana town of Bon Temps. The first book in the series, Dead Until Dark, won the Anthony Award for Best Paperback Mystery in 2001. Each book follows Sookie through her adventures involving vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures. The series, which now numbers eleven titles, has been released worldwide.
Sookie Stackhouse has proven to be so popular that Alan Ball, creator of the HBO television series Six Feet Under, announced he would undertake the production of a new HBO series based on the books. He wrote and directed the pilot episode for that series, True Blood, which premiered in September of 2008 . It was an instant success and the fifth season is about to air in Australia in June on Showtime.
Professionally, Harris is a member of the Mystery Writers of America, the American Crime Writers League, Sisters in Crime, and the International Crime Writers Association. She is a past member of the boards of Sisters in Crime and MWA. She is also a member of Science Fiction Writers of America, Horror Writers Association, and Romance Writers of America, just to make sure she’s covered.
Personally, Harris is married and the mother of three. She lives in a small town in Southern Arkansas and when she is not writing her own books, she reads omnivorously. Her house is full of rescue dogs.

    1. I only found out from publisher that morning and I am 2 hours drive away , plus 3 kids at school , lol!! It needed planning:D On top of that at 1.15pm I received texts from High school asking for permission to release students due to fire on Emu Mountain which is across from them. So ahhhh!! I would have LOVED to have gone as she is rather the Queen of writing. I am normally quite up on who is coming to my neck of the woods as not many come here, hehe!! Apparently this was very last minute that she ended up doing this as we aren't exactly on a lot of the authors schedules for coming to. More Melbourne and Sydney. Especially an author as big as Charlaine...dang!!

Thems the breaks! I hoped Erin who lives in Brisbane and a few of the other bloggers got to go that live down that way.

      :D
